Cooesfan, did you have that deer mounted? Looks like it would make a great full body mount! Cool looking buck!
-
Awesome Buck! Congrats! 168

You can get a replacement for a small fee, just like replacing a lost hunting license.
-
Nice! Congrats to you both.

Yeah, he knows I am not there!

Two dogs out in the wide open with collars and tags is bizarre. They are prolly running deer!

Good thread here and I agree with alot of whats been said. It seems for me that the bucks I get in Sept. are never around when the rut starts and in Sept. the big boys come around every 10 to 15 days. I believe in your case the amount of foot traffic in the area is keeping the bigger bucks away. I dont think many people realize that when more people are in the area, whether illegals or other hunters, that the bucks respond accordingly. I have watched this on my cameras for 2 years now and they seem to move within the day of increased traffic. You may see one by glassing but I would wager he would not be in that area again for a week or so. One thing that I have found out is they are timely. If you have them on your cam at 10 am to 1200 pm, they will be consistent especially in the early fall. As was said before I would move those cams away from the well used trails. Anyway, sounds like your learning alot like the rest of us and it will be sweet when it comes together this fall. Good luck. Here is the Houdini I am after.

Learn How to Call in an AZ Bear from the Guru
swede replied to Hyperwrx's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
One thing interesting Reid had to say was that every bear he has called in over his entire life has been with a Circe cottontail distress mouthcall. Never used an electronic call. -

I have used the same set up you metioned, moultrie and solar. You need to buy a rechargable battery and make sure the sunlight actually hits the panel a few hours a day. I had a problem in the pines with too much shade, however the little solar panel kept my battery charged and taking pictures for 5 months with no problems. My experience has been that when the rechargable 6 volts sit for the off season they go bad and wont accept a charge.

That is one of the best looking wall plaques I have ever seen. That purple wood sets off those antlers nicely, Good job!

Vortex has some pretty good glass for the money. I use Swars but I was pretty impressed with the Vortex but didnt use them very long. One thing with big glasses is eye fatigue after glassing for a couple hours and thats what you dont find out till you buy them. I have used Doctors and for the money your looking to spend I would check them out. JMO

I have had the same experience with backstraps on fresh deer. Not always but has happened and also to others I have taked to. I would say that the backstraps have nothing to do with the meat being good or not from my experience. Good luck and congrats on sticking with it and finding your buck.
