Tried Something New With Wifes Coues Skull
MRL1984 replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I like it, especially the pink. My lady found a few versions of these online. She liked the idea and wanted to do it. She also has aspirations to make all sorta stuff out of horns. Saves me having to worry about her taxidermy bill. Edit to add, I'm green lighted for a full body lion if I ever see one that I can hammer. So I need her taxi budget. -
PM sent, hopefully I'm close to the front of the line for the classics...

Might I suggest joining Arizona shooting forum. After a few posts you can access the classifieds and hi powers come through every so often.

Word for word what I would have to say on this subject. I own a smtih and wesson 642 hammerless .38 special. Lots of power with +P hydra shoks and very easy to conceal. I carry mine everywhere, and they are mindless to fire. Best part about them is the lack of maintence they need. no reason to take ammo out of mags and rotate mags so the springs do not weaken. They go bang everytime and if not just pull the trigger again and the next bullet will be in position anyway. ( would only need this if first round was a dud.) Oh yeah did I mention they are idiot proof to shoot. No matter how scared she may be at the time she would have to use it, there are no buttons or safeties to manipulate, just a trigger. What they said, but adding take her with and get her input. Shoot some, all the usual things of a new pistol. Edit to add. I need to mention that yeah I voted Revolver, but my lady and I both carry semi all the time.

That is why you go with what works for you. It's subjective like that you don't like the M&P and I hate Tupperware. Is a metal frame really better? No, but I like it. I will say that federal issue HK abomination is worse than a Glock.
-
From fondling all, shot a XD and glock. I am leaning toward an M&P if I buy a pistol of the Tupperware genre. The glock for me is the worst gun on the planet and I hate them with a passion. Of course that is just my opinion. Though I carry a Glock everyday, and any day will be getting a new Gen 4. Most of my opinion is based on countless rounds fired at the range. The gen 4 is not getting much love from PD's, I have heard that a department or two is dumping theirs after a couple months. The one I know for sure is going to the M&P. The XD non m model was not my kind of pistol, high slide to hand ratio, which for me throws off the quick site acquisition. I hear nothing but great things about the XDm over the original, but have only seen and never touched one myself as They don't seem to stay in stock long enough to. The M&P gets a ding for not having a short reset trigger, it is nearly all the way back to the first pull. I have been told they have a kit for that. Feel and point ability I give to the M&P as much as I wanted to hate it for being a Non-revolver from Smith. In the end I'm a Sig guy, give me any flavor you want of a 220 and I will be happy as can be, so I basically hate all polymer wonder type pistols. Though the USPs I've owned were nice, but way too expensive for what they were.

Help me out - 870 youth no front sight

Well I got an Email from CTD saying Internet sales are back, guess your boycott worked. -
Help me out - 870 youth no front sight
MRL1984 replied to Coach's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Umm why boycott them for being American and deciding not to sell items in one way? How many CTD guns do you have? Anyone who has an answer of zero has no reason to boycott them for that decision. Last I checked America was free and you could sell things or not sell things. You also can charge whatever price you want. That helps to make extra money when the sheeple raise the demand to the limit of supply. As for the OP, slap an aftermarket job on it from the cheapest source. Even if it is cheaper than dirt. -
I love my leupold mark 4, haven't had a bad leupold yet. The jury is still out on the Vortex haven't seen it in action. Ill let you know what I think of the Nightforce once I pick it up and send some rounds down range with it. I think all of them will do, it's about the style you want to get the job done.

I snagged my lower just at the start, and it was already $40 more than last month. Anything over $20.00 for a PMag is a rip off, unless they can manage "favors" or are made of precious metal. Last I checked all mine are plastic and can't perform favors.

Another run on firearms, ammo, and high capacity mags?
MRL1984 replied to rossislider's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Ok so now it has begun. Try to find a PMag... -
I have a dragonfly I'd sell. I just downsized to the x2. My pack is probably 4 years old, and I had to switch to metal clips for the fanny pack on top. It is in good shape, just more than I need. Shoot a pm over if you're interested.

I am just checking if there is any interest in a DPMS upper. It's a 1:9 twist 24 inch heavy free floated barrel. I have a 3-9 Mark AR that I'd send with it. The upper only has 150 rounds through it as it was my calling gun so it didn't get much use. I'd sell the upper and scope for 650.00. I'm using the lower on another AR, but for a little bit of cash could be talked into adding that as well. I have pictures I can load, but figured I'd wait to see if it ha any interest first. I'm looking to reallocate funds into a bolt rifle. All the standard 18 years old and AZ ID, unless you just want the upper and scope. I'm in cottonwood, but spend most weekends in the north Phoenix area.

It's a .308 projectile. So it's the same projectile as any other 30 caliber. No way it's too much. Anything bonded that isn't an explosive type. Partion, accubond, Barnes, etc will do less damage to meat.

No not a stupid question at all. For me just changing the stock brought my groups way in for the rifle I still haven't bedded. The rifle I bedded still shot about the same, it also was not free floating. I couldn't get a dollar bill between the stock and barrel. I have no experience with it, but you could try the ladder test as part of the load development. Only problem is you need a chronograph. This will show you which load should shoot best and if it doesn't group then its time to bed.

The sound of a pump action shotgun cycling a round is the best deterrent ever made. That and a big dog. My thoughts exactly. Throw down a shotgun for her.

28 is one of those units that there are deer and hogalina in just have to know where the pockets are. I ran around it with sticks and feathers quite a bit during high school and college. Never killed anything, but I am Murphy's law encarnate when it comes to archery. That said 28 is a locals unit for the most part, not the unit that everyone flocks to. 29 has access issues, which translates to not a popular unit.

4 days + 228 deer = 0 bucks!
MRL1984 replied to Joe Kauffman's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Sounds pretty close to my experience. Saw 2 bucks that stayed out til about 820 one morning. Couldn't get in before they topped over the hill into oblivion. That's the problem with being the 5th hunt. The bucks get to be old by knowing how to avoid hunters. I think they were mostly nocturnal the first half of that hunt. Couldn't tell you about the last half as we called it good. 36a was my first choice unit growing up, and I've hunted it for 18 years now. The last few years have been worse and worse on all the hunts from what I've seen. I think I'm to the point Id stay home over 36a. On the positive side, I saw a lot more mule deer in there than I have since I was just a pup. None of them had horns either though. -
I have the rifle in 308. Recoil is nothing, packing it around on the other hand is a chore. I'm looking to sell it though if you want to step up to a .308. ;-) Seriously though don't do the 26 inch heavy barrel for her to pack around, it's a burden. Get a stock that fits her and a good recoil pad. That will help and if that doesn't work, then add a break. Check out the Savage Lady Hunter in .243 at cabelas. It's lighter and the stock is supposed to help with the felt recoil. Just got that in .308 for my fiancé, need to find some glass to let you know how it shoots.

I've got two bells on two different 700s. One needed nothing just put the action screws and it was floated and solid. The other needed some work to get it floated and an action bed. My vote is mount it and see how it shoots before going through the bedding process. As for the optic, depends what deal you can get on a Mark 4. If you qualify for a pro deal you can pick one up under a grand fairly easy. I am a fan of them, but I don't have experience with any other scopes.
-
Not sure where or who would still make them. I have a Velcro mount for no studed binoculars. I use it with 1040 zeiss classics. Have used them for a number of years and actually like them as well as the Swaro mount. A google search found this one http://store.coueswhitetail.com/velcro-binocular-adapter/ go figure the coues whitetail store...

I'd keep them rather than giving them away like you are.

How many of those "Mojados" actually were wet? " Wetback" is a Texas slang ...... Let's see now .... Would it be PC to use the Arizona slang name here on CWT? How about "Undocumented person walking north"....LOL Well it was mighty hot so they were sweaty wet. I like the scratch back as well though. One of them had the best reaction I've ever seen, trying to hold up a piece of pig thistle for concealment.

Was a rough opening weekend. Saw as many mojados (wetbacks) as bucks. I spent more time in the glass than normal as I was trying to find a first buck for the fiancé. Saw about 80 does in 4 days.
