First Coues Whitetail - Thanks for the help

I want to thank all of the guys that replied, called me, sent PM's and invited me to hunt with them. I don't know everyones usernames but Scott, Sean, John, and Justin were all happy to help a newbie. I ended up off the 165 near Melendrez Pass and tagged my first deer. I had hunted from opening day and by Monday afternoon has seen 20+ does, a coyote, and a big bear. Not a single buck. I hung out with Scott and guys from his camp and their success (3 deer hanging by Sunday morning) kept me going. I knew they were out there. Monday evening just before dark I shot a spike close to where Scott got his. Unfortunately he would not clear some trees and I had to take a head shot. Messed him up too much for pictures. Getting him out was interesting by myself but I was happy to put the work in. Thanks again for the quality advice and help. I think I am hooked on these little deer. -
Anyone ever hunt unit 5 on the Navajo Reservation? They have a youth/adult antlerless hunt in late November and I am taking my neice. Looking for places to scout, access roads, and places to camp. Any/all help is appreciated.

Thanks again everyone. I was amazed at the number of guys and gals willing to share information. This is the best hunting site I have been on. -
I met a guy and his wife at SW Processing on Tuesday - they were hunting 24a in the Pinals. They were dropping off their 2nd deer. A spike and a 3x3 if I remember right. Good luck!!!

I am new to Coues hunting and have high hopes for my hunt in 34a. From reading other posts I gather that the popular areas will be overrun with hunters. I suspect the areas described by G&F will be packed. I am more than willing to put some miles in and am looking for an area that will give me a good chance for success. Anyone have any experience with the wilderness area? No trucks, quads, etc. sounds real nice but I have not been able to find much info about deer there. So far I have scouted the areas that I now know will be popular. I know that the Madera Canyon Recreation area is off limits but what about the trails leading away from there? Anyone know what the no-hunting zone around Madera cnayon is? Any help is greatly appreciated. Anyone hunting 34a this weekend and would like company or needs a hand let me know. My parner is missing the hunt due to work in TX.
