Unsuccessful hunter in 22S in 2022?

AZ has incredible sheep hunting. Probably the best in the country for both Rockies and deserts. I don’t know if another state that produces that high of a percent of both that are bigger than B&C of any species anywhere. I agree that they are leaving a lot on the table by keeping harvest that minimal. They could double the sheep tags in the state and still maintain and 6-7 yr old average and most units would still allow a great chance at a 155-160 ram. The ewes would still get bred. I don’t know if it would help the draw odds a ton, but I’m sure there’s be another 150 super happy people out there each summer when draw results come out. NV shoots their rams way harder and it’s still next to impossible to draw a tag so it’s kind of a tough call to make.

Unsuccessful hunter in 22S in 2022?

Be really smart about your choices. Last year all of the 27 rocky tags went to guys with max in the first hunt and the second hunt was 1:801 odds. I would have flip flopped those choices first of all. There is technically a super small chance your number comes up really early in the draw but the 1 NR tag in 42 is taken and then you might might get a second choice. NR do have lower odds because there has to be two or more tags in a hunt and they are only eligible for one of them whereas a resident is eligible for both of them.

    ANY FARMERS OR IRRIGATORS ????

Correct me if I’m wrong but if you have irrigated alfalfa in that country you’re gonna have every deer and elk in the county right?!? I plant about 80 acres just for the critters so I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, just curious?!?

    ANY FARMERS OR IRRIGATORS ????

10” pipe. They’ll actually push 1200gpm if you turn em all the way up. 4 pivots share two wells on one section so when it’s hot and dry and corn is growing, they run nonstop. The other two have their own wells each so they get a rest.

    ANY FARMERS OR IRRIGATORS ????

We’ve got some center pivots up here in ND. They are nice but not sure how much water you have. We have about 900 GPM at our pumps and that will easily run a 7 span (130 acre) pivot. I can put on 0.75” a turn in 24 hours. Prob looking at $30-40k for a 3-4 span pivot which would irrigate around that much land. If you’ve got the water I’d invest in it. Irrigation is something that has only gotten harder and harder to get permitted for and the permits that are locked in are so valuable and only getting higher.

    Optics Setup

I just went through the painful and expensive switch from outdoorsman to Arca. Definitely go with Arca stuff if you’re just starting out!
  7. One year old. Used for one sheep hunt. Only blemish is where I grabbed it to loosen it from the tripod when I took it off. Switching over to all Arca Swiss so this no longer fits into the program. $250 shipped. PayPal gift or you pay fee.

2022 Draw odds report, where is it?

I’m currently sitting on 26 turkey points and starting to think maybe my number will be up next spring. I can’t for the life of me find any of the draw reports on the new website the G&F has. Anyone have a link? Bonus points for a unit recommendation that I’m in the max pool on 😎

Anyone else get a call from azgfd about draw mixup?

I’ve always been skeptical in the past when applying with mine but have drawn a tag or two over the years that were definitely from the resident pool so it’s worked in the past. Must have had a glitch in the system this year.

    Worst Waste of Money

I agree. I’ve bought a couple Harris clones and it’s like the build them to purposely fall apart. Can’t hardly tell the difference in them in your hand except that one will have a piece falling off of it as you hold it

    2023 Kaibab Bison Success!

Congrats! Very cool. Good work to all parties! I do have to ask though, was hammering one with a rifle premeditated to hopefully confuse them and keep them around? I feel like if I was holding a rifle and hunting with a double amputee with a bow I’d let them try to shoot first and then crush one. Sometimes things happen fast and it sounds like it worked out better for you in the long run but that seems risky!! I sat in a a blind for 158 hours and never had one come into the salt. Ended up killing one in Jackson WY on the elk refuge the next year but bison were kind of a sore spot for me for a while!

    point of impact berger bullets

I shot a metric ton of stuff with the 210gr target bullets out of my 30-338 lapua. They were fine. That being said I wouldn’t trust a 130gr out of a creedmoor on much bigger then a coues.

    Port Aransas TX fishing

Cool. I fished for that stuff in Venice LA in march. Truly the best fishing I’ve ever had. We pounded the reds. My wife caught a 38”er and probably landed 50 over 30”. Unreal.

Looking for bi-pod Mid price range

I run the S25. The S25c is the same thing just has 2” longer lower legs so all heights are 2” taller. Taller guys have better luck with that one in prone and on their but, I’m 5’ 10” and really like the regular s25. I also would prefer my bipod be a tiny bit short rather than a tiny bit tall if I had to err on one side or the other. Can always lean into it a bit but if it’s too tall you’re trying to raise up in your spine and that’s no bueno.

Looking for bi-pod Mid price range

I have had a couple prone style high end bipods. You can lean into them better than the Harris for sure. My problem is hunting on the prairie there is always grass to contend with. I find that in the desert or mountains there’s less grass and you usually are on a hillside so you can get prone. I would say 98% of my shots here in ND, MT and WY on the grasslands are off my butt. There’s a Harris that fits me absolutely perfect prone when collapsed and perfect shooting off my but when extended. There’s no other bipod that can do that without carrying a bunch of extra crap around with you.

Looking for bi-pod Mid price range

Harris is the way to go even if you wanna make the jump to an expensive one. I’ve had a few different ones and still keep coming back to the Harris. Truly the best all around bipod made.

Cool. Good to hear of someone actually getting one of them.

    Limited entry calls

I guess maybe I’m misunderstood but don’t they do the 80/20 split based on all sheep tags and not just within each unit since there’s so few of them. So I was under the understanding that all tags drawn in 22 went to the max point pool every year. Maybe I’m wrong on that one.

    Limited entry calls

You realize you can’t get worse than a 0% chance right?
