I'm in the same boat right now trying to figure out which to get. I'm going with the Sig only because it is smaller and held vertically with one hand. I know that's not ideal for long range but it's necessary for shorter range quick shots and that's just as important to me.

Anybody ever do this on your own? This should be a really simple one. I have a Winchester model 70 that has two holes with proper spacing on front and only one on back. Spent an hour on the phone with leupold trying to find a one piece base that will fit it so I don't have to drill a fourth hole and their best suggestion was to drill another hole on the rear and use their two piece base. I should be able to mount the rear base and torque it down and mark the hole with a punch easy enough so lining it up will be simple. I'm just scared to do it. The nearest smith to me here in BFE North Dakota is 2.5hr drive. I tried to retap a stripped out 10/22 receiver in high school and did a horse sh1t job of it but that is a soft aluminum receiver. Not sure if steel is easier or worse?

. I'm gonna check with a machinist. The hole on my other model 70 (that I know is factory drilled and tapped) goes clear through on both rear holes so it should be a fairly easy hole for a machinist to drill.

I have. No one makes a one piece model 70 base that has the proper hole spacing. I'm thinking this gun was drilled after the fact as the spacing doesn't line up with anything leupold could find. What thread is it? I might have everything you need laying on the bench in my shop. If you want the hole in the right place, square, and with good size threads (not wallowed out) you need to a.) Spot drill it, b.) Drill it) and c.) Tap it using a tap guide of some sort that will keep it all in line. Or d.) You can bring it and a six pack of beer out to Avondale some evening after work and we'll get you squared away. Man I appreciate the offer and would take you up on it in a heartbeat but I'm in ND! I should fly down there anyhow just to get out of the cold!!! It's the standard thread that leupold bases are (6/48???)

Waterfowl Gun for next year
yotebuster replied to Havasuhunter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Spray paint or dip the BPS. Absolutely no need for a new gun. If you're comfortable with a BPS then keep shooting it. Don't fall for the 3.5" hype. I waterfowl hunt 50-70 days a year and haven't shot a 3.5" shell since the day they came out. I've actually switched to 2 3/4" for most of my waterfowl needs. Smaller shot is key. I shoot steel 6's and 7's for most duck hunting and 3's and 4's for snows, honkers and cranes. Speed is king. Get a good fast steel load that patterns well ina 2 3/4 or 3 " and spray paint the BPS if it makes you feel better. If you truly just want a new gun cuz you want a new gun then make sure you shoot a couple before you buy. They are all very reliable these days (except Turkish shiite and Browning's) but they all point very differently so make sure you find one that fits. -
Waterfowl Gun for next year

What's wrong with your BPS? I've killed an honest dozen dump truck loads of ducks and geese in ND with a glossy blues walnut beretta 390. -
BB's and 2's for turkeys?!? Bump down to 5's or 6'a and you'll have 4x more pellets to kill them with. Remember a turkey is killed with a single pellet in the head or the neck so the more you can get in the swarm the better. A #6 lead has more then enough energy to penetrate a turkeys head out to 60 yards.

You'll be all healed up by sept! If not I have an awesome crossbow you can borrow.

Sounds like you need $20 and a plane ticket?

Older 1970-72 Remington Model 700 BDL .243

I used to have a 17 rem just like it. I'd kill to have that gun back. -
Aren't you sitting on a bunch of points? Or did you draw recently?11 I like the way you roll. I've got a bunch of family sitting on 10-11 pts and are trying to hold out for a "premier" unit and all they do is keep raising tag numbers in those premier units and dropping them over in little old 4b. I'm glad everyone thinks it sucks.

So.....what about show low and star valley?
yotebuster replied to biglakejake's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I'm still a wanted man in show low. -
That's not totally true. Private land issues make some of those goats unkillable. Very true. I probably should have phrased that a little different. I was meaning more along the lines of the weapon then the land ownership but you are correct on that.
-
What about 19a muzzy? Guaranteed he'd get it. With muzzleloader technology these days there isn't a goat in the unit you couldn't kill with a little patience and some range time.

I'm hoping to try this if I fill my buffalo tag this year!

I thought that was one of those cheesy outdoor picture wallpaper backgrounds the elk was in front of and was thinking to myself "dang that background looks realistic!" Then I saw the leg of the pedestal off the edge of the concrete and realized it was real!!
