UPDATED!! Found him. To the guy who bought my shooting gong over a year ago and paid me, do you still want it?
yotebuster replied to Adicted's topic in The Campfire

Dusky Blue Grouse
yotebuster replied to Couzer's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
We will find out soon, ha ha, from what Ive heard they very tastey!!! Ill be using my smoker Thanks guys for all the complements It will taste incredible. Ive shot truckloads of them and never had a bad one. Their meat is slightly darker then a ruffed grouse but way way lighter then a sharp tailed grouse. Just got done with a big plate of stir fry with pheasant and blue grouse mixed and cant tell the difference. -
+1 for Robert Major. He probably mounts more oryx then anyone in the US and would be able to network one for you if he doesnt have one.

Maybe call the operators of the hunts? A lot of people euro them so they might be able to spread the word. Also call some of the Texas canned hunt places?

yotebuster replied to hoghntr's topic in Classified Ads
Ive got one you can borrow mike. Only issue is its in ND at my hunting cabin and I wont be there till Friday. When does your hunt start? If I got it in the mail that Monday you probably wouldnt get it until 11/17-19? Im guessing youll find one local between now and then but if not let me know and I can send it down. Dont buy a cheapo. Youll end up hating it. -
This isnt a manual transmission by chance is it?

Optimal shooting distances for specific magnification scopes
yotebuster replied to CatfishKev's topic in Long Range Shooting
I would look not so much at max power but at zoom capability. Older and cheaper scopes have a 3x zoom range (3-9,4-12, 6-18 etc) I wont buy a scope without a minimum 6x these days. There are just to many good scopes out there to compromise on this. A 3-18 would be ideal for a kid. All the benefit of a 3x on low end with top end to make 3-400 yard shots more consistent at the range if nothing else but to make them confident at 250 yd in the field. -
Strelok app question (zeroing question as well)
yotebuster replied to AZHUNTER05's topic in Long Range Shooting
I always set my zero at 100 yards. Then based on the hunting situation I can adjust it as needed for quick shots. Typically I will put it 2moa up which gives me a decent point blank range out to 250 or so and anything beyond that Im gonna dial anyhow. I get really nervous about a zero beyond 200 as it puts yornrifle toonhigh at 100. 3.5 high at 100 is a wounded critter for a lot of animals. -
Wow! Incredible bucks!! I'd keep being picky if its landing you bucks like that!
-
Agreed, younger bucks seem to have long narrow snouts. I know this buck is at least 8+, most likely more. I have a shed from when he was a yearling that looks like it had been laying out there for a decade You have his yearling shed? I'd like to see a pic of that!!!

Do antlers dry out and shrink as the year goes on?
yotebuster replied to trphyhntr's topic in Coues Biology
There is absolutely no blood left in the antlers the second the velvet is gone. Technical they start shrinking the second they strip velvet and it continues essentially forever although it slows to unnoticeable levels fairly quickly. They fall off due to osteoclast activity at the pedicle/antler interface brought on by dropping testosterone levels. The osteoclasts attack the bone and resorb it until the antler falls off. -
Anyone use or seen thru a husksmaw scope??

Cementum annuli aging is actually not accurate at all. Scientific perhaps but not accurate.

Wow!! This is awesome!

If you hold one of those you'll instantly learn two things. 1: you don't want one. 2: English stocks are why the English lost the war! They look cool but they are made for carrying not shooting!

Modern Bows Short Brace Heights Question

You apparently don't remember this bad boy!!! -
Those are big bucks for any Wyoming tag let alone a leftover!!! Congrats!

These are my two archery bucks from 19a. They are just offset wall pedestals hung touching as my wife is good about all mounts except fake habitat (foam rocks, craft store cactus etc) so I did them like this and really like how clean it turned out.

I got out the other morning for the first time this year and shot a quick limit. First flock of 3 shoulda been my limit but one made it away. Second bunch I got one more out of and that was it! Done in 20 min. Best eating there is!! Sorry to hijack your thread but I just love cranes!

I've got some homemade silhouettes that I don't use since I bought my full body's but they're in ND so it would probably cost more to ship them then they're worth. When do you need them by?
