    pheasent hunting

Look into ND. Go pickup a PLOTS map (private land open to sportsman) and start walking. Youll find enough to keep you busy. SD is pretty leased up. Hard to find good land and most of the outfitters rely heavily on releases birds. They wont tell you but almost all of the pheasant hunting at large lodges jn SD are planted birds. If you wanna shoot planted birds do it in AZ and save the trip.

    Field Scoring antelope

how many 18" goats you see?One on my wall. 😀 I think what hes getting at is that if you use that method youll probably go home empty handed in 99.9999999% of antelope units. You had arguably the best antelope hunt in the world. Your buck is incredible and most will go their lifetime without seeing one like that!!I was just bragging. let's see your buck more pictures please http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/49806-monster-goat-in-the-dirt-2014-antelope-hunt/page-8 Its a toad.

Id say the fishing is slow then.
  5. Im in ND so Im no help, but a utility trailer wiring kit is about $20. Just cut the old wire up by the plug and use the old wire to pull the new wire through the frame. Hook the two lights up and plug it in and youre golden.

    Elk pastrami

That looks awesome! My wife makes corned elk/deer/antelope roasts. Not sure the difference but I like the cured look on this!! I dont think corned is smoked. Everything is better smoked!

Did you have 23 deer pts too? Whatd you draw? What are chasing for elk?

    tag applicants

Colorado is a fairly expensive state to build points in. $43 non refundable. You need to put in for 3 years to even get entered into the lottery for moose sheep and goat. Then its probably a 40-50 year wait to get a tag at this rate. If it is anti hunters putting in to take tags away from the hunters then I think theyre gonna have enough money sunk into it that they earned it!!!

    Mid Life/wife crisis Question

Mine is a dog too! My trailer with my Can Am Defender comes in at roughly 3000lbs. Whenever I hit that hill and going up Ox Bow, truck struggles. Of course, it's a 2004 with that lowly 4 speed tranny, but I thought it would handle that weight. Apparently not. I'm now in search of a new truck! Haha I had a 2006 1/2 ton Chevy with a 5.3. Hated that pickup. It literally couldnt carry itself up a parking garage. So happy to see that think go down the road. Swore off gas pickups after that one. Until I test drove a ford ecoboost. You cant even compare a non turbo gas to a turbo gas. I guess it would be like comparing an old 6.5 Chevy non turbo diesel to a new duramax.

    Mid Life/wife crisis Question

I would say its more the upfront costs and the fixes that kill you then the maintenance. Yes oil changes are more expensive but thats not huge. I buy a new F150 eco boost max tow every two years. I put 99500 miles on them and then trade. The last one I got was $35200 off the lot. A comparable diesel woulda been just shy of $50,000. Thats almost $15,000 difference. If I trade every two years thats $7500 a year. I got ostracized on here for saying I spend $2000 a year on out of state tag applications as being a rich guy, I would say that anyone who owns a diesel spends far far more then that just to listen to it hum. Dont get me wrong there are people out there who truly need them, but I would say 99% if diesel owners dont. I pull probably 10,000 miles a year with mine. I farm part time so its anythkng from combine headers to seed wagons (15,000#) to my camper, but in my opinion I still dont pull enough to justify an extra $7500/yr in cost. If you break something on a diesel its gonna be $5-10k for literally anything in them. I see these guys talking about this motor or that and the say 6.4L is great you just have to do this delete and that bulletproofing. If Im gonna spend $50k for a pickup I better not have to take it to some aftermarket dude with a flat brim hat to spend another $10k to make it work. Thats my 2 cents on diesel!!! As my uncle (a lifetime mechanic) used to say. The three Ts of diesel: Trucks Tractors and Trains! (Dont get me started on pickup vs truck, we are referring to pickups here. Trucks have more then two axles.

    Mid Life/wife crisis Question

I would look hard at a 1/2 ton Ford ecoboost. You can get the max tow package on them and they will do 90% what a 3/4ton diesel will do but do the day to day stuff much better. I just pulled my 11,000 pound corn planter on a flatbed from one farm to another (280 miles). 15,000# load total and it worked just fine. Set the cruise at 80 on the interstate and it kept right up. They love gas when pulling but get really good mileage when not. I get 21-24mpg if I keep it around 65-70. If youre set on the dodge get a diesel, I have a little experience with Hemis and its all bad.

    CO tags

19 points for me now! Im stuck in no mans land between some incredible 4th season tags that take 20+ and creep up a point a year and some great 3rd season hunts that take 12-15 points. Same for elk. I wish I had 19 elk and 19 deer points in AZ instead of CO!!!

    Why I buy points

Depends on the state. Some you do some you dont. Wyoming you dont have to. Utah you can buy it every other year. Nevada you need it every year. Thanks, I was refering to zekes post about CO and WY. I just assumed you did. Gonna half to start looking into WY. So are the easy to draw lope tags in sage country? How's the meat on those things? I've heard many different opinions, but I've heard in areas with sage they're nasty? I'm wondering because the 2 doe lope tags. I'd want to get the meat but not if it's gross. The only antelope meat that is nasty is meat that wasnt handled properly. Ive killed antelope in ND, MT, WY, AZ and NM and all of them were fantastic. Im anal about how I handle and animal after its killed though. I would say the best are the ones I shoot 20 min from my house in MT and I can get them home and hung from the loader to skin them properly and cut them bone in like a beef. The worst was probably a NM buck that was rutting like a wild man and I had to do the gutless method on and take out in a day pack, but Ive never had a bad one. If youre worried about that focus on the eastern part of the state. All the agricultural land will be private but the units with lots of private are easiest to draw. Find a rancher with a few center pivots of alfalfa that will let you on for a trespass fee and stack em up.

Is that the power line where the guy staged the photo with the 200 Muley he allegedly poached?

    Why I buy points

Tons of them. I dont know much about them so I cant give you specific units as I banked 9 points and burned them on a red desert tag last year, but there are plenty that can be drawn with 0 and 1 point. Especially in the special draw which is a little higher tag fee.

    Why I buy points

I apply in ND, SD, MT, CO, OR, AZ, NM, UT, NV, ID and AK. Some Im in every year for everything, others I use as my go tos when I dont have a hunt lined up elsewhere. I think its smart to spread the cards on the table. I apply for roughly 50 different hunts a year, but many are 1:1000 plus odds but some are 1:2 odds. I figure if they average to 1:100 and I apply for 50 of them I should get a once in a lifetime tag every other year or so and thats been pretty true. It can be expensive, but I think the non refundable part comes out to about $2000 a year. I know a lot of people that spend far more then that on golf each year or new guns. My passion is hunting and the more out of state tags Ive drawn the more addicted I become to going into a new area and figuring it out.

    1st year recurve

What spine carbons do you suggest? I'm having a heck of time finding aluminum anymore. https://www.cabelas.com/product/EASTON-LEGACY-FEATHER-ARROWS-PACK/2225395.uts?productVariantId=4570776&WT.tsrc=PPC&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=04428511&rid=20&ds_rl=1252079&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoMTy4eCt2wIVWJ7ACh0i1gubEAQYAiABEgK2pPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Please dont shoot carbons out of a recurve at game. Buy these. You wont get velocity with a recurve so you need to rely on weight.
  22. Im so jealous of this!!! In ND they are listed as invasive but they count toward a daily limit and theres a season. Not sure if thats even legal if the game and fish to do. Ive considered flying down just to get out of the cold some winter and shoot eurasians!

What to do ,11 points ,Res.

They do the 20% bonus pass first before the random draw. So theyll look through everyone with the highest point tiers for each hunt. You wont make the cut for late bab with 11 points but you most likely will for 27 late so youll get a tag on second choice in the first round bonus pass and your name wont be in the hat on the random draw pass that comes up later.
