Thanks for the info!! Now youve got me researching this stuff to handload some wicked duck loads with those 9s!!

Test the safety and trigger on any moss berg before you walk out the store with one. We had one growing up and the safety was so dang hard to take on and off it took both hands. Not exactly great for a starter gun! A buddy had one as well and it must have had a 35 pound trigger. When we were kids it took two fingers to pull it. Not exactly safe either!

Yes I could pointguard, but since I had a tag last year there really isnt any reason to. Ahhh. Didnt realize you burned points last year. If youve only got your two permanent points in the ring on it Id go huntin.
-
Cant you use point guard if you screwed up? Dont you have a bunch of points flatlander?
-
Pattern it. You might be surprised that it sucks or its awesome. Its an awesome load from the look of it. Small heavy shot is wicked. I shoot 7 shot lead for pheasants and it will go clear through a roosters head at 60 yards. Im confident these hevi shot 7s would do the same to a turkeys head at that range. Dont fall for the big pellet scam. 1 pellet kills a turkey but you need to have a swarm of them to get one in the right place especially at distance.

If will doesnt take this I will.

If youre going to go with an outfitter in CO I would recommend you consider taking the same money and buying landowner tags in NM. Youll have an infinitely higher chance of killing a big bull (any chance is higher then a 0% chance in CO in the flat tops) and you can do things the way you want. Another option if youre leaning towards spending the money on an outfitter is looking into Timberline outfitters from the site here and doing an OTC hunt in AZ. You will have a better chance at a cow or small bull then you will in Colorado and it will be cheaper and closer.

Easiest way to deal with that is to get OnX maps for your phone or GPS. They are fantastic and super affordable. ^ this. I wont hunt a new state without it. I actually forgot my GPS once (before they had the phone app) and went and bought one on the way down to a hunt in NM just to have ONx. Its truly the most important piece of hunting gear I have. I would hunt without binos before I hunted without OnX.

We killed a few bulls out of the San Juan forest years ago. Tough hunting but it is hunting atleast. You will see hunters, everyday and lots of them. If I were you and you were going to camp at a trailhead I would concentrate more on the front country then the back country. You either need to get way way back (horses or backpacking and staying) or work the fringe of the private down low. Anywhere in between will be loaded with hunters. People want to stay in their comfort zones, and that means they may not be willing to offer the physical work needed to get way back, or the mental work needed to work the edge of private. Its far easier to just hunt in between but there wont be many (any) elk.

Maybe they didnt raise the fees that much on antelope. They raised the elk fee a bunch. Special elk tag is $1300!!!

Looks great! My wife just made the same last night with moose!!
-
Awesome buck! Those tight curlers hide their length well. I bet he outscores some of the tall bucks you scouted! Any antelope with a bow is a heck of an accomplishment let alone a buck like that!

Just make sure he buys a lifetime hunting license.

How was the hunting? You kill any elk?

FINALLY UPDATED WITH PICS!! Anybody near Mesa airport want to make a quick reward?
yotebuster posted a topic in The Campfire
My dad is in the air right now flying back from his elk hunt and tried to carry on his elk cape and I guess they confiscated it from him and threw it away. He didn't give me any notice other then a text so I tried calling down there. The lady at the desk knew what I was talking about but said TSA had it. So they transferred me up there, they said Allegiant air had it, so I called back down there and they don't answer now since its after business. If anyone is near there and would be willing to run up there I'll mail you a $50 check whether you can get the cape or not. If you do get it and run it to ups for me sometime and shop it up here ill give ya $200. Sorry this is disparate, this is a once in a lifetime elk and I guess I am disparate. Call me on me cell ASAP if you can help out. 701-527-5747. My names Ben -

I know this thread is over 3 years old but I wanted to put up a picture of the mount in its (nearly) final resting place. This is the bull that my dad killed and BigBrowns rescued the cape from years ago! My taxidermist was backed up so it took two years to get back then it spent a year in my heated shop until I got a spot picked out to hang it. Anyhow it turned out awesome and puts all my bulls to shame. This was a 10.5yr old dinosaur of a bull and the mount would not have been the same without the original cape. Again I cant thank Adam enough for what he did to get that cape back!! The CWT community is pretty dang cool!!- 43 replies

I cant beliece this gun has lasted this long. If I werent in ND Id buy it just to shoot skunks from the tractor!! -
Might be worth trying it anyhow. I drew unit 61 last year with 7 points in the random draw. Also with the huge tag fee increase you may find some guys will drop out of the special tag draw.

They dont shed completely like a deer or elk. If youve ever found a skull youll see the big bone projections sticking out of their head, they just start a new growth of tightly packed hair under there and that pushes the old sheath off, usually in late oct to November. So youll never see them without horns and some of the nicer bucks will look pretty good even after shedding but will grow significantly more horn as the year goes by.

You always have such cool stuff.

Are any of the 3-27 PF2s second focal plane? -
Its rebranded Atkins. The guy who designed Atkins died from it so they needed a new name.

Put in for both as youll never reach bonus pass in antelope in AZ so you are wasting your money buying a bonus point. I put in for antelope in North Dakota, South Dakota, NM, NV, UT, MT and AZ. I will likely only draw a tag or two in my life in some of those states and will draw many in others. If I have enough points to draw one for sure then I put in for super hard tags in the others as I can plan on one hunt for sure. AZ has the biggest antelope in the world. Keep putting in for a quality hunt and someday youll get it. In the meantime shoot a bunch of bucks elsewhere so when you get the tag in AZ you can get a buck of a lifetime. You can shoot 70-78 antelope literally every year in multiple states for $200-500. An AZ tag is a gem and is a $10,000-$20000 tag if you were able to buy one. Dont waste your chance there on a marginal tag in one of the few marginal units.
