True. Just seems to me that AZ points are such a golden ticket to big Miley’s. The thing about MT, or WY or any of those, is there’s a lot of medium and small critters but your odds of a giant like you can have a chance at in AZ is essentially non existent. Atleast with a kaibab early tag you can know there’s a 220 buck somewhere in the unit. In MT, WY and 3a/3c the odds of that are almost nonexistent from what I’ve gathered.

That’s the pics I’ve seen I guess. There’s a couple collages on there with 1 or 2 180 bucks on there and the rest are 140-160 bucks. I’ve hunted with him for elk and he knows his stuff and knows how to take pics so that’s where I guess I’m curious of what the hype is I guess. Most of the bucks on there could be easily had on a general MT tag or a leftover CO tag. The burnt timber bucks from last year were some dang smokers though for sure.

I just looked at their website and they have some pretty good lookin bucks in there where the terrain looks like 3a/3c. They’ve also got a bunch on the 150-160 country too. I would be curious to see what an average is across the board for what they kill in there. They seem to kill the best ones from what I can see.

Can someone explain the allure of the 3a/3c tag for me? I see a lot of publicity about it, and have spent little time in there, but the guides putting the collages on FB are putting up piles of pics of 145-165 bucks on them? Seems like there’s one good one that comes out of there (190+) every year but a whole pile of 3 yr old 22” bucks as well. It seems to me that just about every unit I’ve spent time in south of the canyon can produce about like that. I hear of NR burning 20+ points on that tag, wondering if it’s just buying the hype or of I’m missing something? Nothing wrong with 140-160 bucks but a guy can shoot bucks like that annually on no point type hunts across the west.

The “I didn’t get drawn posts” in the spring offset the “too many tags” and “all I see is hunters” posts that pop up in the fall. Keeps the forum volume up and moving Atleast

There’s a ton of tags that you could have drawn this year. You just chose not to apply for those. Short of pronghorn you could have a tag for every single one of those species this year but you picked hunts that were more desirable and therefore took a risk of not drawing and you didn’t. Simple as that.

Best Salmon Fishing in the Lower 48 (or Vancouver)?
yotebuster replied to rossislider's topic in Fishing
Fly into Seattle and rent a car and take ferry across puget sound and drive out to Westport. You’ll be too early for albacore but salmon and bottom fish should be good. Rent a 6 pack boat for the day (I can get you a name if you’d like) and you’ll catch some fish. Don’t waste your time in puget sound. Limits are non existent and so are salmon runs. If you want to spend a little more money and take another day out on the Olympic peninsula, try drift fishing for salmon on one of the coastal rivers. That’s a ton of fun too. My inlaws live in Tacoma and we’ve messed around on puget sound a bunch and this is the only keeper salmon I’ve ever caught there. The background gives up my spot! -
Wasn’t there just one on here for $300?

I’m not sure I understand the first post, but if you aren’t a road hunter, you’ll wanna learn to be one. Especially with scouting, getting out of the vehicle is the worst thing you can do when trying to locate an antelope buck. Good luck with the tag. I’m jealous.

No luck here. Just like the rest of the states I put in for. Horrible luck this year!

I’m looking for 8-10 new or used trail cams. Looking for recommendations on a good brand as I’ve had bad luck with the cuddebacks I went with last time. If someone has some that are all in good working order and the same brand and model they’d be willing to sell I’d be open to that as well. Let me know what you’ve got. I’m in ND so you’d have to ship them but we’d work that into the price.
-
Thanks! I think I’ll try to find some that there’s either 8-10’of them, or are ones they still make so I can add a few more of the same kind. My problem now is I have 1-3 of about 5 different kinds!!
-
They’re all yours, I’m gonna try to find a group of them that I can still get more of so they’re all the same. Hate learning how to run different ones.
-
They lied. Not out yet. Says 17th.

You’d rather have your teeth pulled then have to wear some fabric over your face for 3 hours? You must have never had a tooth pulled. I’m in agreement that the CDC and feds need to get on the same page but I don’t think I’d wanna lose any teeth over it.
-
Sorry, I’m fully planning on buying some new ones and looking for recommendations, but figured I’d start here is someone bought some and now can’t use them. If I lived in AZ still, I’d personally just put mine out to keep an eye on the cattle using the drinkers and salts but that’s just me.
-
Thanks! I’m trying to find a decent number of the same cam as I hate having to remember how to set them when I have a bunch of different brands out.

How much are taxes and HOA fees?

I would get a cow decoy for sure. The best way is to use a cedar or a wash to slide in on them. I’ve killed 7 antelope with a bow none over water, and have yet to actually kill one from behind a decoy although I’ve decoyed some and tried plenty!
-
Depends on if you are targeting a certain buck or just wanna go out and have fun and kill A buck. If it’s an AZ tag then I would hope you’ll hold out for a big one as they are there. In that case, a decoy is either gonna work or it’s not. My experience is that about 1:10 situations with a decoy result in a shot. 8:10 result in them hauling butt the other way and the other 1:10 they just ignore it. It may have to do with their attitude, the lighting, or the situation, but if you plan to target and kill the biggest buck in the unit with a decoy you’re gonna be disappointed. If it’s a Wyoming hunt where there’s likely no giant bucks and you’re just out for the experience, antelope decoys work great, and like I said, that 1:10 buck is gonna come flying in and it’s an experience unlike anything else, and you’ll have a very good chance of killing him. Cow decoys are hit and miss. Probably a similar ratio to the antelope decoy but I feel like you can atleast keep trying them once you’ve blown it so that’s why I feel they’re better for targeting a specific buck. It really helps if you’re in an area with a lot of cows. The Prescott units are awesome for them, and those antelope are dumber by far then any other antelope I’ve hunted.

Flying with a large hunting backpack? How do you do it?
yotebuster replied to Viper's topic in The Campfire
They make a cover bag for them for like $70 that is waterproof and fits perfect. -
I’m still waiting on the ones I ordered in October! This seems like a pretty good deal.

That’s so racist. Should just be a Jim plate.

Isn’t it amazing what a competent game and fish IT system is capable of!! If that had happened in AZ you wouldn’t have even known you drew, just punted to the curb.
