First of all. In order to help you I’m gonna need GPS coords to where it happened. Secondly, sometimes shoot happens. If the gun was on and the dope is good you just missed. I missed a muley in Utah last week. Shot over his back twice at 450. Held 12” low and shot right over his back again. The gun shoots 3/8moa and I’ve killed deer with it out to 1000. I just plain a55 missed.

how do these otc archery outfitters do it?
yotebuster replied to MrBojangles's topic in The Campfire
There aren’t any guides consistently killing 180 bucks in OTC units. Maybe one a year with a buddy hunting etc, but not consistently killing bucks like that. Maybe in big private like the Baca Float or something like that I’d believe that. -
I’m guessing if you guys were selling a house right now you’d just go ahead and sell it for what it was worth in 2019 then? We’re our own worst enemy when it comes to ammo and reloading components. Hoarders gobble it up and price goes up. Only way that gets stopped is when the price crashes and they get stuck with their product (2006 housing market for example) but supply is not keeping up with demand right now and it won’t be getting any better anytime soon. That’s the capitalist way and I’m all for it. As much as I see people throwing the “D” word and “L” word around here, if you bleed red but wish for some type of intervention on free market pricing then you’ve got some serious cognitive dissonance at work in your head.

I have done a lot of of hunts where I have to hike 5-7 miles into back country and a lot where you are hurting your odds greatly by getting away from the truck. I do whatever it takes for my hunt to be successful and sometimes that’s a pack in and sometimes it’s truck glassing. No rule out there saying you need to hunt the same way anyone else does and vice versa.

Is today the day? Last day to update was yesterday correct?

23 apparently wasn’t enough for a Gould’s tag…. Maybe next year!

I prefer to do my road hunting for sheep from a party barge with a giant cooler of Coors light while pulling crank baits. Life goal for sure.

Haha. Yep. Looking for a rifle rut hunt 😂 I moved home to ND in 2012. I’ve only made it back for javelina once and when I did my brothers and step dad wanted to go to so they averaged off me and we knew we had enough points (2) to draw. So I just buy one every time in case we do that again. It’s easier then trying to remind all my brothers to put in for the spring draw as they don’t have any interest in any other species

Good work on keeping those bone in shanks. Best cut on a big game animal. I’ll take shanks over backstraps anyday!
-
Buy one every draw for 6.5 years and take hunter safety.

I’ve got 15 javelina points. I could be bought for the right price next year.

Good deal on a hard to get powder!

As usual I agree with lance on all things except the FFP thing I won’t own another leupold vx6. Way way over priced and underperforming scope IMO. I’ve had 3 and yet to see one track properly. The night force nx8 is a dang good scope for the money. They make a SFP so that’s in my wheelhouse. Wish they made one with a simpler reticle as I don’t use subtensions and even their simplest one is a gong show. If you can save a bit more id look into a S&B Exos. It’s my current go to scope. 7x zoom so you get the benefit of 3x on the low and 21x on top. Nice size for a hunting rifle and it will not let you down on tracking. They make a real simple duplex with dot reticle that gives me wood. I got my last one as a demo on eurooptic for $2600 so not much more then an NX8 at retail. That being said my dad was just in same boat and he went with an NX8 4-32. Great scope. I’d do a 2.5-20 if it was me as 32x and nigh force glass doesn’t really work together great but it’s a dang nice scope and it’ll do what he needs it to.

Please don’t shoot an antelope with horns shorter then his ears on an AZ tag. I might cry if that happens. AZ tags are special, you can shoot 8” dink bucks every year in WY, MT, CO etc etc but AZ antelope are a once in a lifetime thing so treat it that way.

Even in much of the Midwest the doe slaughter is a myth. If you’ve reached carrying capacity of your habitat then you need to thin deer, and does are the best in that case. That happening is quite rare though. It would never happen in the west and doesn’t happen near as much as the TV shows want you to think in the farm country of the Midwest. The best thing we ever did on our place here in ND was to slow the doe shooting way down. They were shooting 30-40 a year off of 5k acres. I’ve cut it back to just a few (youth hunters) and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made as far as deer go.

Looks good! I can’t stand to waste antelope on smoked stuff. Save the old muley bucks for that!

Giant ram!! Congrats!

That’s too bad to hear. I met him when I was 8-10 at a gun show here in ND. I was pretty fired up about coyote hunting with my .17 rem back then. I was bouncing back and forth between the 25gr match HP and the varmint HP and only had money for 100 of one or the other. He gave me both boxes at half price so I could try each of them. I’ll never forget that.

Should have known, 4b is a giant elk unit and that’s it.

They could be anywhere from right on to way off depending on your tune. If you haven’t shot them yet then it’s not to late to get some new broadheads, there are so many good options out there that are better then the old aluminum can thunderheads. This late in the game I’d get some expandables and go hunting as it’s too late to try to figure out a fixed head. Most good expandables these days are light years better then a thunderhead anyhow.

Bump for some good bullets. When I used to shoot sabots these things shot lights out in my encore. Smoked 3-4 bulls with them at anywhere from 35-300 yards and they always mushroomed perfect.

Just sent it back to you. Thanks for lining that up with crazy monkey!

Hoping someone can bail me out here. Loaded some of these up for a WY Buffalo hunt and my 7mm STW absolutely loves them (like one ragged hole with those ugly bastards). Anyhow I have a moose tag this year and would have sworn I had a box of them on the loading bench and I guess I don’t. Anyone happen to have any laying around? Will pay well and cover shipping of course.
