It’s a slow but sure progression. I’m not for it, was just surprised it lasted as long as it did. The next thing coming down the pipe is private land tags. Those Indians are sitting on a few million a year in revenue for the elk and antelope they have and they will get that extracted, it’s just a matter of time. Again I’m not saying I’m for it or that it’s good by any means, was just exclaiming that I can’t believe it lasted as long as it did. I watched guys complain about the “greedy” owners because they had to pay $85 and couldn’t drive their side by side where ever they wanted. They were being so generous by allowing that access for free and for pay. You don’t even come close to scratching the surface of the cost of ownership of that land at $85 a person access fee even if you sell thousands.

I wondered when this day was gonna get here. Honestly can’t believe they put up with all the bullshit they did for as long as they did. I’m gonna get flamed for this but I’ve never seen a place with such lack of respect for private land ownership as I did in AZ. Everyone was losing their minds they had to pay $85 to have full run of a half a billion dollar ranch like it was some kind of inconvenience to them.

Whoa. Dream ran right there. Everything about him is just perfect!

I honestly factor that stuff in when I put in for raffles etc. I drew a PIW nevada deer tag that had a 1:1200 chance that year for $10. I remember thinking “that’s a $120,000 deer tag so if I were to draw it for $10 at those odds it’s way better then Vegas or lotto”. I’m pretty sure if I won the lotto I’d spend every penny on enhancement tags so it’s the same difference!
-
In all honesty, if I drew one of them you guys would have to hear about it. I’m on the carhartt and Coors light prostaff so I’d have to rep their stuff of course.
-
Damnit. With a title like that I really thought this was gonna be start of a flat brim hero Instagram thread with pics of the tag, reflection of a fire on a wall tent, some Kuiu solids and Mtn Ops strategically placed, you know the story of a dirt nap dealer who drew the ultimate tag for his Instagram fame.

With any luck. The only thing better then a fundraising special tag draw is one where people pay the cost of entry and then don’t kill the critter!!!

I wouldn’t go over 15x in a 56-60mm bino. The only reason vortex ever made 18’s was to try to get people to bite on the gimmick that somehow 18 is better then 15 because it’s bigger. You want to keep your ratio of power to objective diameter as close to 1:4 as possible. (Ex 8x32, 10x40, 15x60 etc). If you drop below that you’re not letting the amount of light through that is necessary for your eye to work to its fullest. I personally would sell those Vortex as a new pair as it sounds like they are and then buy a pair of swaro 15 HD’s. You will never regret it and if you are hard up for cash someday you’ll get dang near what you paid for them in a hurry.

Dang. That’s wild! I’ve had that happen gradually over a few years and always thought it was manure eating things away but I guess they can just break down too!

I’ve got over a dozen trailers between my boats and farm trailers. I just don’t jack my pickups up. I get 3/4” less clearance better mileage and don’t have to worry about it rolling over and killing my family on an icy road. I just don’t look as bada55 I guess.

These usually come with a pair of white Oakley Gas Cans, a flatty and a pack of extra small condoms don’t they?

I agree with Casey, been using my sportsman ID for a decade and a half. Have it memorized. When I go in and it asks me for a frickin number I put that in. I apply in a dozen states. Some call it a sportsman id some call it a hunter Id some a user Id, but what none of the other states do is force you to use their porthole and then not even use it for their frickin draw. That doesn’t even make sense. I have no customer ID btw. Looked into it. I have a 9 digit sportsman ID that is not my SS but have no idea how to get this so called customer ID. Oh well. Guess I made a donation 🤷🏼
-
They must have just mixed my phone number around. There’s no way I didn’t draw that late 21-24 coues hunt.
-
How’d they find out? I’m gonna assume no news is bad news?
-
Good point. Not sure. Logged into my porthole and can’t find what they call it. I have it memorized and it’s what I type in when I go into the draw every time. Starts with a letter then 8 numbers. Maybe that it’s my Sportsmans ID?
-
My customer Id is 9 numbers 🤷🏼♂️

Incredible ram!! Congrats and thanks for the write up!

Looks awesome. Your story made me prickle a little bit with your digging on “trophy hunters” so I’m gonna go on a rant. I’ve killed 3 moose, a 2.5 yr old shiras, a 7.5 yr old shiras and a 7.5 yr old Canadian moose. I would argue that the worst of them was the 2.5 yr old bull. Your bull doesn’t exactly look young so I guess I don’t see the point of your initial rant. If it’s to dig on guys for taking bad care of their meat then that’s fine. If it’s to say that all hunters who shoot 60” moose are slobs about the meat and that all hunters who shoot 45” moose are somehow revered by locals and natives alike then you are wrong on that. I hate the term “trophy hunter” because it’s used in a negative connotation like there’s something somehow wrong with enjoying a hunt and having a goal of what animal you want to shoot. You DEFINITELY trophy hunted if you saw that many moose and elected to shoot the bull you did. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that but neither should you. I passed 40-50 bulls on my ND moose hunt this year and set my sights on a big old smart bull. I went round and round with him during the archery season and spent 16 amazing days in the field that I wouldn’t trade for anything. I killed him on the second day of rifle season and the meat is fantastic and every bit of care was taken to make sure it was the best quality and the most quantity recovered. All done by a “trophy hunter”.

Eurasians and pigeons Wanted
yotebuster posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Anybody know if there are any dairies that do trespass fee type hunts for eurasians and or pigeons? Was looking to get away from the cold here in ND and line up some dove hunting with a couple buddies for a few days. -
Scheels won’t have to buy Sportsmans they will just watch them go out of business.

Looks pretty awesome! We have a walk in cooler at the farm and I love the ability to cool animals in cold weather etc. I’m not a big fan of hanging wild game for long periods of time. I’ve found that so much of it drys out and needs to be trimmed you aren’t left with much. I will say it works OK with elk but with deer and antelope when you lose 1/2” all the way around the outside you end up with only 1/2 the meat. The other thing that wild game don’t have the advantage on over aging like beef does is being able to control the killing of the critter. Anytime you open up the stomach cavity of the animal you are getting bacteria on your meat. While aging is somewhat slowed rotting, it’s much more controlled with a beef killed in a slaughter facility and you don’t have to worry about the stomach contents (read sh1t) getting on your meat. I like to let my critters go through the proper chemical changes that happen in the first 12-24 hours after death while getting them as cool as possible as quick as possible and then get them cut and wrapped ASAP and the quality of the meat we end up with has gone up substantially from when we were “aging” game.

3. Game agencies need money to fund projects. This gives them money. If you have problems with “what” they are spending it on then take that up, but less is more isn’t the correct way. Simply reigning back the amount of money you give an agency doesn’t get you more bang for your buck. The fact of the matter is AZ 85%+ public land and 100% public animals so saying we need “less government” in the G&F sector is not only ridiculous, it doesn’t work. If you want a hint of what privatized game and fish programs look like go to Texas.
-
The good news is it’s voluntary to spend your money on it. So if you don’t want to, don’t apply. Then you dont have to worry about what they’re doing with the money!

Great guy, I bought my first pair of 15 swaros from him. I’m guessing there’s gonna be a bunch of size 17 boots on that sale and probably a dozen pairs of mid range binos! Miss him on here.

I like that they’re using a few animals (statistically insignificant) to raise a ton of money. Makes sense in my book. Utah has done incredible things for their deer and elk herds with the money they’ve raised doing similar things. If they want to keep it available to the common man they’re on the right track by keeping it a raffle. If you can get one animal to raise $30-50k you can create a whole lot more opportunity at other animals with that money. Win win for all involved.
