Anybody ever hunted Utah cow elk

Most ranches are wanting cows killed and they range from $1500-3000 including the tag from what I’ve seen. Same in NM. It depends on what you want out of it. If you want the DIY satisfaction then applying for a general cow tag in Utah and figuring it out would be a good call. If you want to get out and see some cool country and a ton of game the private cow hunts are the ticket. They will be quick and probably as close to a guarantee as you can get. Most of the time they aren’t gonna shoot any where you can’t get a ranger or truck to so your meat yield and handling will be easier and better. I’ve found the cows that come off private hay fields to taste exceptional too! That all being said, $1500-3000 is a lot of money that could be spent toward draws for bull hunts, landowner tags etc.

    SOLD

The Russian ones were $120 and the Chinese $80 if I remember right. Ammo was 6 cents a round. Not good for much but always wondered if they wouldn’t be worth something!!

    PointGuard Plus - Priority positioning?

I do them sometimes and sometimes I don’t. Often the draw odds are better in the cheaper pile and in the non guided pile. I understand the point you’re trying to make and understand it’s a slippery slope but I find it interesting how the G&F come up with a change that actually saves people money and they still get all fired up. My original post to this was that there’s literally no better place that I’d like to see my money go to then back to the resource I love so much so none of it bothers me. The fact that I pay an absolute pile of money every year that likely goes to help gender studies in Afghanistan or help keep some douche who’s too lazy to work on disability is what bothers me the most.

    PointGuard Plus - Priority positioning?

Everyone is all worried about the “rich guy” (apparently having $5 more of discretionary income makes you rich) getting to step ahead of the poor you (the guy with $5 less) in the tiny tiny tiny chance that a returned tag goes to guy number 3 in line (rich guy) instead of guy #2 (poor guy) all the while the government literally made you $5 poorer while you were thinking about it through inflation. If you want something to get up in arms about, look at inflation, double taxation, or better yet add up what you pay each day or or each hour in taxes. Then figure out how much inflation is screwing you over ever day or every hour. It’ll give you a real problem to occupy your mind. If you are the “poor guy” who can’t afford pointguard, you should really be busting your but at work trying to make that $5 not such a big deal rather then writing on hunting forums on an $1100 iPhone.

    PointGuard Plus - Priority positioning?

Well they do it every year in pretty much every western state in the name of preference and bonus points. The other good thing is point guard plus is cheaper so it’s not “for the money”.

    PointGuard Plus - Priority positioning?

If someone has a ton of points they’ll draw in the bonus pass and then they’ll pick the alternate from the bonus pass so they also will have a ton of points. Also, as Noworries pointed out it’s cheaper to do pointguard plus so there goes the “big money” argument.

    PointGuard Plus - Priority positioning?

While I’ll agree with you on the first part, the “new trucks” and “new tires” thing doesn’t hold water with me. As a business owner, the cost of trucks and tires is truly pennys compared to what it costs to run literally anything. People get hung up on the new trucks thing because they can associate with it and understand it. If you think that is even a drop in the bucket compared to the money that’s spent on facility maintenance and more importantly HR, you’re mistaken. Trading vehicles annually or biannually is a good way to maintain the equity in them, but more importantly to keep from having issues on the side of the road which cost your business (in this case, the taxpayer) boatloads more. You and I might be able to change the oil or change a tire or troubleshoot a problem but the average person (G&F Worker or not) can’t do that and they are working in remote areas. One lawsuit because a flat tire left some idiot state employee on the side of a trail and they hurt themselves costs more then all the vehicles they’ll ever own. I trade my pickups at 95k every other year. It costs me $0.25 a mile to own them and it’s by far the cheapest thing I’ve found to keep myself going down the road and showing up where I need to be when I need to be there. You might be able to run a high mileage truck and squeak by for a an extra 75k or soemtbjjgn but the law of averages will catch up to you and you’ll be dropping a $10k engine or transmission in one and then your back to a lot higher per mile price. When you look at that on a large scale the law of averages always wins. That’s why big companies (and govt) trade frequently and I’m dang glad they do.

I don’t get why everyone has such a hard on against the game and fish making money. They’re the only state agency that has to self fund, so if they make more money, they can put it back into the resource we all love and cherish and then use the money they generate from that resource to make even more resource. I just wish they’d take their customer support to the next level. The NV game and fish isn’t ashamed to admit that they have a product and we are the consumer of it. They treat the applicant like a customer instead of someone that’s in the way of them getting to their lunch hour. We need more of that. More pride in what they are “selling” = a better business which = a better product. I spend a lot of money across different state agencies each year and don’t consider a penny of it ill spent as it goes to the second most important thing in my life after family.

    10mm??

If you’re rifle hunting any center fire deer rifle is gonna be 10x better then the biggest pistol so save the weight. If you’re bowhunting then I’d go with a Glock 20. It probably won’t make a bit of difference but you can finish yourself off after the bear chews you up atleast.
  13. That is some seriously specific spam.

You ever watch those clowns in Iowa or Illinois on the hunting channel? All it is is them talking about “Righty Split” and “White eye” and “Flare” and stuff. Really gets kind of annoying.

    Remington 700 ML

If it’s the old school 700ml that used a 209 or cap ignition I don’t think you can. If it’s a newer Remington “ultimate muzzleloader” then send it to arrowhead or Todd and have them get a decent ignition system in it.

    Deer/Sheep Regs

Can I like both? Or does that not make a cool enough statement?

    Deer/Sheep Regs

Well if they don’t kill anything the populations should increase and tag increases will follow. I personally am always rooting for tag cuts and higher buck to do ratios so if they can get money for someone to not shoot a critter I’m all for it.
