On that topic, do you guys have the .019 pins or the .009? When I was younger, switching from the .029 to the .019 when the first became available was a whole new world! Just wondering if the .009 is too small or if its that much better? Also, what model of 7 pin hogg do you guys like? I was thinking between the Hogg It Hunter and the Real Deal I think. I like the length better on the Hunter, but don't want it to stick out in front of the the limbs on my Drenalin, so its not the first thing to hit ground if you set your bow down face first (if you see what i'm saying!).

This is an odd question, but can you use electronic calls for turkeys in AZ? I had a trip planned for this w/e with some friends who've never hunted them before, I was planning on doing the calling, but something came up and now I can't go. They're trying to get the calling figured out, but I was just wondering if I could throw some turkey calls on my foxpro and send that with them? In the regs all I can find is that they are illegal for migratory game, which is a pretty obvious federal law, but nothing for small game. Any help appreciated! Thanks, YOTE

Hey there, I was lucky enough to pull a 19A Early antelope archery tag this year with only 1 point! Anyhow, I'm a little mixed up on what the boundaries are on this hunt. It says "east of robert road and north of 69/169, which makes sense, but also north of 89a is in there too. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't 89a north of 69/169? Or is it just saying you can't hunt west of robert road in the little chunk south of 89 and north of 69/169? Sorry, just a bit confused on this whole thing. Also any info on what I can expect out of this hunt? Looks like quite a few tags in a small chunk of ground. Are they rutting that time of year, seems early to me, but I'm new to AZ antelope, only hunted them back in ND where they rut in mid Sept. Thanks in advance for any advice. YOTE

ruthunter, thanks for the info, I got my tag in the mail saturday and it didn't come with any info other then the tag. Hopefully I'll get some additional stuff in the mail later. That's great that there will be some rutting action, I love hunting antelope with a bow! I'm getting pretty pumped for this hunt already! I'll maybe give the G&F a call this week and see if they forgot to put my info in there.

I've got a good friend from home that uses his chocolate lab for it, works good I guess. There's a movie out there called "Dogging for Coyotes" that goes over it pretty well.

I had one for a while, it was a beautiful gun, with an amazing trigger. I had a problem with it shooting 6" high on a cold barrel EVERY time... dont know why, tried a few different things, and ended up sending it back to kimber where they rebarreled it. It didn't shoot as good when I got it back, but still shot sub MOA, and didn't shoot high on a cold barrel at least. I ended up selling it, because like was stated before it was just to pretty to take out yote huntin, ended up buying an AR instead, and then another, then another, then another! Just FYI, I think I sold mine used for $750, and remember paying around $900 new for it off gunbroker, if that gives you any idea of what to charge/expect in your trade.

I've been bumming info off all of you guys and gals for a year and a half now, and I'm happy to say I was able to put it all together in December! I drew a December Ft. Huachuca tag (notice the blaze orange!), and managed to make a quick trip out of it. I hunted the first evening without even seeing a deer, and decided to hunt a little lower the next day. I'll admit I got incredibly lucky, because on my hike into my glassing point the next morning I stumbled upon two does and two bucks in the early light. A check of my watch revealed I was 2 minutes into legal shooting light, and considering I wasn't terribly picky, I decided to shoot. They were close enough that I didn't waste time ranging them, just leveled of the STW and sent one on its way. I was rewarded with a solid thump, and the other three took off! I hung my pack in a bush, and headed over, half reluctant for ending my hunt so soon. I went to the 200 yard mark, thinking that was about where he was, and realized that there was no blood or anything. There was a main trail there, so I followed it 300 yards in either direction. I started to panic after a half hour of looking, thinking there was no way I couldve wounded one with that sure of a shot. I looked for a solid 2 hours, when I decided to check a bit closer. I walked back to about 90-100 yards and found blood! A LOT of blood, just as I was thinking "how could i hit this guy with a 7mm STW at 100 yards and make him bleed this bad and not find him", I looked a couple feet away, and next to a cactus he was lying there stone dead. I had made circles from where I thought I hit him looking for bllood for two hours! I mustve walked within yards of him several times! Anyhow, the grass was 6-8 inches tall, and to be honest, this ND boy was looking for a whole lot bigger critter! I estimated him at 200 yards before I shot, and to be honest, I am used to seeing eastern whitetails, and didn't take into account the fact that he was so much smaller! I couldn't believe how small he was, but I was absolutely jacked about it!!! This stuff is addicting! My brother back home still can't understand why I"m so pumped to shoot an 80" whitetail, but he just doesn't understand I guess. Anyhow, a lot of thanks to everyone who has given me advice on here, u've created a coues hunting monster I'm afraid. He ended up scoring just shy of 80", was 13.5" inside, and they weighed him at 74 pounds gutted. They aged him at 3.5, which is a bit of a shame, because he'd have been a heck of a buck in a couple more years. He's gonna have a small spot on my wall since it's my first coues, and he won't take up a whole lot of room anyhow! I also have to give a thanks to the guys at the Ft. Huachuca sportsmans center for putting up with this rookie Coues hunting LT. and helping me get my first buck!

Thanks for the congrats guys... It was a LOT different then hunting whiteys back home, a lot different better kinda good if you will. I learned the value of a tripod mounted pair of binos for sure!!! I'm absolutely pumped about gettin after one next fall again, this time I'm gonna shoot for a bigger one, but I imagine that's not gonna come as easily as this buck did! The Huachuca's are some beautiful mountains, I would've never in a million years imagined there'd be mountains like that sticking up out of the desert! I'm excited at the prospect of what a pair of 15's on a tripod are gonna reveal to me back on the ND prairies.

I've been looking at making a trip to the black river this spring. Would love to do a canoe trip down it if possible. Just curious if there is enough flow in any area to make that possible. I understand that the fishing probably gets better when the flows go down, so maybe fishing and canoeing at the same time aren't possible. I've never been there, maybe canoeing altogether isnt possible, and maybe I would need to just do a backpack trip in? Thanks in advance for any info you can give me on it!

Predator R-15 project finshed

nice looking rig! I've got the same one, and a couple more! I would recommend one thing for ya though, slide that rear ring back as far as possible before you go out and sight her in. The more you can get them spread out, the stronger it'll be. Just my two cents, but I know you can bend a 1" scope tube fairly easy, so it'd be a bit more secure for ya! Nice lookin gun, is it a .223 or a .204? I've got the .204 and it's a coyote hammer! -
Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm more interested in the fishing aspect, but thought that a float trip would be a cool way to get away from the crowds. My other plan was just to back pack into an area thats away from access points, sounds like that's the better option. I would be most interested in catching smallmouths, and I'd be using fly gear. I'll look into those other sites too, thanks a million. What time of year would be the best to go if you are backpacking? I'm assuming that all depends on flows, which are likely to be late this year with all the snowpack, is there anywhere you can check flows online? Thanks again.

Sandhill Cranes

we shoot the heck out of 'em back home in ND, awesome eating, cook rare on the grill, like a deer loin. Pass shooting is the best way, although we decoy em back home too. Find where they are feeding, (in a agricultural field usually) and where they roost on the river, and just get in between the two, that simple. THey are actually easy to bring down, as they have a lot of neck and wing to break. a 12 guage with 2's or BB's will be perfect. Good luck! -
My brother and I were celebrating our unit 13 1st season archery elk tags we drew as a party and he goes "wait, I have two emails from them".... here my sister in law drew a unit 15 muzzleloader tag! He put her in there so she wouldnt draw! This is the same girl who drew 16D early rifle two years ago as well as a Monroe Utah LE muzzy tag the same year... now my brothers worried about gettin time off for work!!!

FOR SURE!!! Go with a string loop, have it tied by a professional, in a good pro shop and you'll never regret it. If you're using a drop away rest make sure you tie a small knot of serving material under the nock and then tie on the loop, this gives more room for your arrow to "flex" on the string as it raises up... i.e, the loop wont pinch your knock... Stay away from the metal ones, as they are noisy, hard on strings, and way more then you need when a string works so nicely.

Found radio that was lost a year ago!

I did the same thing a couple years ago, upgraded from my old 2 mile ones (which would often go 3 or 4 miles in flat country) to the new 15 mile motorolas, figuring I should be able to get 10 miles at least out of them... WRONG... they were worse then my old ones... if it wasn't for the fact that I dropped one of my old ones down a ice fishing hole, I'd still be using them... they don't do much good with only one though, unless you yell into them really loud -
New Mexico G& F Hit my CC Today
yotebuster replied to scoutm's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
i did to, they are taking money from everyone this year, i don't think it means we drew... they tried to hit my card for sheep i see to, but my $3k limit was to low so it bounced it back... gonna have to get that changed tomorrow and hope they try again... don't think they are taking money for elk and deer though, so if you get charged for those, it means you drew. -
I think you're about on with that price... That'd be a nice setup for someone to get into bowhuntin for that kinda money... the guys that bug me are the ones that say they have $1200 into their 5 year old setup, and they want $900 out of it... bows depreciate like nuts, but you are about on... I used to be a salesman in an archery shop, and I HATED when guys would bring trade in's in... I would almost always end up offending them with what we could offer on their bow... good luck selling it!
