Leica Rangemaster 1000 R - Anybody using one???
yotebuster replied to mattys281's topic in Optics and tripods
I would spend the extra $200 and get the 1600. You'll get that back out of it in resale if you ever sell it. -
If we are talking "trucks" then peterbilt is the way to go. If we are talking "pickups" then Ford with 6.7 is the way to go.

Some guys mount they're wenches on the front of their truck, some guys mount their wenches on the back of they're truck, some guys even mount wenches on the front and the rear!

Any advice with Wyoming antelope hunt guides?
yotebuster replied to nw07heavy's topic in Antelope Hunting
Make sure you're loading it hot if you're gonna take a borderline caliber like a .338 Lapua. Antelope are big tought critters with some big bucks weighing almost twice as much as your .338 bullets!! I would suggest bumping up to a .416 Barrett or 50 BMG to make sure you have enough KE. -
In ND at least, the jakes you see in spring are poults from the previous spring. In the fall there tail feathers will be filled in and they'll have longer beards. If there were a lot of jakes last spring there'll be lots if young toms this fall and next spring if they make the winter. They rarely get over 8-9 inch beards here due to snow freezing them off. You can tell a 2 y/o Tom as he'll have little round bump spurs. If there sharp and hooked they're a 3 y/o or older.

Duck Dummy

Location location location. Throw your calls out the window unless you know what you are doing. 3" #3 shot is the largest shot you need. Go wih someone who knows if possible the first time. I think learning what is within effective range is hardest thing for first timers. Shooting at long ducks not only educates them but will make you loose confidence in your gun etc. if they're within 50 yards and you put a pattern of 3" 3's across them they are done. If they aren't falling they're probably to far. -
Nice goat Bob! I've got one short of max points. Forgot one year. That was a big mistake. My brother drew with max points in one of the red desert units last year and killed an 84"er. I'm 10 years out on that unit since I'm one short

Guess that was worth the wait! Congrats on a smoker of a bull!

I don't have pan adapter and love mine. Pan adapter doesn't allow you to lock them on an animal that you don't want to loose in heavy cover.

This is funny. Unit 1 is not managed for a trophy unit. Its a product of the fire. 300 archery bull tags and a cow hunt going on the same time. Its a joke. Sure there are some giants but gnf shouldn't take credit for managing it that way. Maybe we should thank the USFS for torching the unit. Just give it a few more years. It'll be what 3a 3c now is. Because they managed it for trophy bulls about 10 yrs ago too. Please read the link. Those units are managed under the alternative management system. Meaning 30-40 bulls per 100 cows. All other units 20-30 bulls per 100 cows. Genetics are good in AZ. They manage for what they deem a healthy population. Thankfully genetics are good and there are good bulls. Those of you complaining should hunt colorado, Montana or Idaho once. To the guy complaining about the biggest bull they killed in 22 being a 338 bull, most hunters in those states have never seen a 338 bull in their entire lives, and most have never seen a 6 pt. AZ has the best elk hunting in the US hands down (yes NV has big bulls but isn't really in the same boat with less then 1000 bulls killed annually). You have it good in AZ. REALLY good.

Wyoming bird hunting?
yotebuster replied to Big Browns's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Sorry I can't help you more Adam as I have no first hand knowledge of this area. What I can tell you from years of living and hunting in the Dakota's and eastern Montana and Wyoming is that if there is any decent grass cover bordering crops of any kind, you will likely have pheasants, Hungarian partridge, and sharptail grouse. The issue is most of the cropland will be private ground. I would pack a shotgun and some shells and just see how it pans out, my guess is that you will run into plenty of birds in your scouting and will kill some if you're opportunistic about it. If you flush a covey and they fly over a rise, grab your gun and a pocket full of shells and go after them, no guide or dogs needed! -
As far as I know coues bucks don't have babies? It might affect the trophy potential, but the population will remain stable as long as they don't kill does.
