  2. My fellow coues and mule deer hunters, here is some information for all the ones bringing hides from Mexico this season. This information also applies to Big Horn Sheep. The United States Department of Agriculture permits the importation of fresh ruminant hides such as deer from Mexico as long certain requierements are met. First and foremost, all imported hides must be free of both living and dead ticks. There are two primary ways to import fresh (green) hides from Mexico, they must either have been treated with an ACARICIDE (pesticide that targets ticks) in Mexico, frozen for at least 24 hours, or pickled in a salt and acid solution. OPTION 1 - If the hides were treated with an acaricide then an official certicate issued by a full time salaried veterinary officer of the Goverment of Mexico must accompany the hide(s). The certificate must state that the untanned hide(s) have been treated with an acaricide and it needs to include the name of the acaricide. OPTION 2 - When importing hides that had been previously frozen, a written certificate from the importer needs to accompany the hide(s) stating that they have been frozen for at least 24 hours. Additionally, upon arrival an the port of entry or airport, the hides need to be thawed enough to facilitate inspection on all sides for ticks. OPTION 3 - If the hides were pickled in a salt solution containing mineral acid, an official certicicate issued by the shipper needs to accompany the hides stating that the untanned hides or skins were pickled in a solution of salt containing mineral acid and packed in barrels, casks, or tight cases while still wet with a solution and that the solution has a pH equal to or less than 5.0 VERY IMPORTANT my fellow deer hunters: If any ticks are found (living or dead) the hides will be refused entry. If the hides were not dipped using the appropiate acaricide and/or dont have the proper certification, they will be refused entry. Additionally, if the hide(s) arrive at the port of entry still frozen or not pliable enough to be sufficiently inspected, the hide(s) will be held at the port (or at the airline's cargo facility) until they are thawed enough to be thoroughly inspected on all sides. If the pickled hides do not arrive with the proper certification, they will be refused entry. Hope you find this information useful my fellow deer hunters and wish you all a happy and successful hunt and hope you bring the Muy Grandes and please don't forget to share the stories and pictures with us. Gun Question

You will need a lot of practice. Then practice some more and keep practicing. You will need to find out how far you can shoot accurately. Can you shoot 3 times in a row a paper plate at 300 yards? How many inches is your bullet droping at 300 yards? How many inches at 350? Can you hit the paper plate at 350 yards 3 times in a row? and so on and so on...... Temperature, wind, down hill or up hill? Once you find out how far you can shoot you will have the answer. A 270 can kill a deer up to 600 yards away but...can you make that shot? Ernesto C

    TONS of FUN!!!

After 3 years of no hunting for me, finally got the opportunity to hunt deer. It was a very special hunt becuase I got to hunt with my brothers, cousins and above all.....my old man, my dad was with us. My cousin NOE, never killed a deer before, so I took him with me my first day of hunting, Saturday. He saw two bucks walking on the opposite ridge. I told him shot the one on the left cause its bigger than the other one. When he was about to shoot all of a sudden we herd a KABOOM! And I saw the bigger buck hiting the ground hard!! I told him somebody shot your buck!...go ahead and shot the other one; he found the other buck in his crosshair and squeezed triger KABOOM!! The buck droped like a ton of bricks!! I told my cousing you got it you got it!! he started jumping and jumping some more saying I got it, I got it!! He gave me the high five with a smile from ear to ear and he told me: "I feel goose bumps'! Seeing my cousing face.....was PRICELESS! Here a picture of him and his buck, his face says it all. He made an impressive 350 yard shot! His buck was right on top of this ridge Monday I took my brother Mario with me, we went to a ridge where I glassed 7 different bucks for him, 10 shots later he was able to conect Here is a picture of his buck. He got it from the ridge in the back ground. Good Job Mario I'm proud of you, you the man! Monday in the afternoon I took with me my cousing JAIME. Jaime never killed a buck bofore either. My brother Javier called me on the radio and told me that about 800 yards ahead of us where two bucks feeding. So I told Jaime how to get close to them and shot one. 3 shot later he harvested HIS VERY FIRST BUCK!! I GOT ONE, I GOT ONE!! he was yelling and I could hear him 800 yards away Here is a picture of Jaimes buck. (Sorry no field pictures since I went back to get my quad) Tuesday Morning I took with me my brother Tony. I glassed a couple of bucks about one mile away. He made the stalk, got within 280 yards of the buck and BOOOM got it! (Sorry, no pictures of Tony's buck. Pictures are on Jaime's camera and I have not recieve them yet) Tuesday evening my brother Javier took this fine buck. He made a well placed shot at 330 yards. Well since every got his buck I told them in camp, tomorrow is going to be my turn. So Wednesday morning started glassing and saw this buck going up the ridge. A well placed shot at 300 yards from my 270 WSM droped the buck. Me and my buck, on a very special hunt with tons of fun, great memories for my cousins and with lots of with all the jokes my old man were telling us at camp. Thanks every one for reading and remember to be safe out there. Make sure you dont do this to your knees I do feel a lot better now Ernesto C
