Congrats on your cow. Looks like you had a nice camp too.

Very cool! I have been that way a few times the last couple years and have yet to see some. Our janitor at work was up there last week and saw them. May have been the same bunch as he said they were right before Boulder.

Eye dominance is a huge factor. I'm lucky I'm left handed and left eye dominant. I shoot a shotgun both eyes open. If I switch to the right side all I see is the side of the barrel. My daughter used to shoot her bow right handed and could not hit the broad side of a barn. We switched her to the left side and she started hitting the target every shot. If you get your kid shooting his bow on the dominant eye side it will not take him long for it to feel natural.

You should try to get the bow on his dominant eye side. All 3 of my kids are right handed but left eye dominant. They all shoot left handed.

Third times a Charm 'First Archery Elk'
DUG replied to lucky2hunt's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
That's a nice bull! Congrats on your 1st. -
Saw this in the Republic this morning. A guy in a Nissan Murano somehow hit and killed 7 elk when they ran out in front of him. G&F issued salvage tags so the meat wouldn't go to waste. I bet that was an ugly scene. The driver walked away from it. Sorry if this has already been posted, I looked 1st. Any of you Payson guys see this? I want to see what the car looks like.

Congrats on a hard earned buck. Looks like you were around 11k feet?

Dang, there's 7 less elk for my hunt now. Thanks for the link with the picture Mike.

Glad to hear he is OK. He needs to hire a bodyguard next time.

Congrats on your bull! That's a big one for sure.

Good luck on your hunt and hope you have better luck than we did in NM 9. We saw 7 elk but could not get close enough. They were not talking at all and were hard to find. We did get a nice bear on video at 40 yards. Tons of turkey up there, too.

Nice buck! It was cool to see you had your boy with you too. He can tell all his friends he was with you when you shot that buck.

Nice buck! Way to hold out for the one you wanted.

Scouting trip and a Sonoran Whipsnake
DUG replied to azpackhorse's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Great picture! That snake reminds me of a deer scouting trip to Patagonia 18 years ago. My wife was scouting with me and started asking about snakes. I said we wouldn't see any snakes. I told her if we see a snake I'd give her a million dollars. Well not even 10 minutes after that I stopped real quick because one these snakes was on the trail. I almost stepped on it. It was big and long and green. I turned around to look at my wife and she was already in tears because of the snake. She still reminds me about the million dollars I still owe her. I had no clue what kind of snake we saw until you posted this picture. -
Could it be the infamous Kornbagger or maybe La Llorona?

Great story, great pics, great buck. Way to go man!

I'm heading to NM Sunday and it's supposed to be hot there, too. We just have to be ready for anything. I think they will bugle more at night when it's cooler.

Congrats to you and Greta. It seems like girls like to shoot and catch on fast. My girl just finished her Hunter Ed. stuff earlier in the summer and can't wait for her elk hunt to get here. Good luck on her deer hunt. Hope she gets a nice one!

Nice buck! That will look good on your wall.

That's awesome! He should get it mounted that way.

Great job on the kitty. He doesn't look too bad for 15 yds. with a shotgun. I like the picture where you are showing his face. Looks like Itchy and Scratchy from the Simpsons with his eyes like that.

My wife understood that I/we hunt a lot when we got married. Heck, she was sewing beads on her wedding dress with a shotgun on her lap while we were dove hunting. This year she was upset that I put in for NM elk and got drawn. This hunt will kick off the hunting season for me/us. My wife, son and girl and I all got AZ elk tags for different units. Now you throw in quail, scouting for elk and my son and I have unit 23 deer tags. We may have every weekend tied up starting next weekend all the way to Thanksgiving. My wife helps coach our girl on a club softball team, so it's not like they will be sitting around waiting for us to come home from a hunt. As long as I get the housework done she's happy.

Nice pic! That one antler looks a little caribouish.

And how many trail cams have you snagged in that time?

I don't think there's any thing wrong with what Richard is asking. He wants to know what others think. I think if you can keep your kids interested in the outdoors they will love you more for it and will likely keep their kids in the outdoor lifestyle. There is a house down the street where all the "druggie kids " go after school. I don't want my kids to be like that. I feel bad that their parents aren't more involved in their lives. I was not born to a hunting family. I had a BB gun when I was 10 and then some friends invited us to go dove hunting and then it progressed to quail, deer and then antelope and elk. All 3 of my kids love the outdoors in one way or another. They enjoy the trips we take just to see the animals. They enjoy hunting and all the things they encounter. The junior hunts give kids the oppurtunity to hunt and have a real chance to harvest something. G&F knows that kids are the future of hunting and that's why they offer these hunts. My girl got drawn for elk this year and is absolutely excited about trying to harvest one. We drew 5 elk tags this year and her hunt is the one I hope is the most successful. I didn't mean to get off the subject but I think the more hunts the kids can do the better.
