I'm wanting to upgrade my sights on my bow. I have a basic horizontal sight (bottom of the line). I've been looking at the trophy ridge vertical sights. Does anybody have these sights? Whats your opinion with Horizontal vs Vertical, Pros vs Cons with these style of sights. Thanks for any input Terry

azhuntnut's table for sale
couesarcher replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Hey everybody, I just noticed something that doesn't look good. Take a look in the mirror just above the liquor, is that azhuntnut standing there in what looks like a speedo. You can see the flash going off in the mirror from the person taking the picture. Great photo.HA HA HA HA -
I need some help with a decision, I now own a Remington 700 model .270 with a 22 inch barrel. I shoot Remington 150 grain, core-lock bullets with it (factory ammo). I have not shot at distances beyond 300 yards. I'm not real sure of what the ballistics are past 300 yards. My decision comes with at 400 or up to 500 yards what are the ballistics going to be? Obviously I need to shoot at those distances and see how much drop there is. Is this gun big enough for Coues deer at 500 yards? Is there enough velocity and energy at that distance to drop these deer? I’ve always herd the magic number of 2000 ft per second when it comes to velocity and energy. Do you think if I change the barrel to a 24 or 26 inch barrel this would better my odds with this gun, as far as increasing velocity and knockdown power or do I look at getting a different rifle? There is also the cost factor involved, a new barrel if this will fix my issue or a new gun which I believe will be more costly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Terry

What are turrents? I'm not sure what these are. This is all about finding what the limits of my rifle are. Just because my .270 can shoot out to 500 or 600 yards, doesn't mean I can shoot that far. I understand that I also have limits on how far I can shoot ethically. But practicing at these distances can only make be a better shot. Thanks for your input. Terry

I cannot stop laughing. -
I can't see the draw results being pushed back until the first of Aug. Not when there is and archery antelope hunt Aug 11th. That does not give those 40 tag holders much time to prepare and plan. I believe they will be out this week sometime. That's just my .02 cents. I've been known to be wrong before. Terry

I have a friend that knows a guy who has a sister, her friends second cousin was told by their best friends husband that the draw results would be out very very soon. HA HA OK I'll come clean, thats all true except the part that I have a friend. This time of seasonis the worst. The waiting to see what the results part. Terry

Scouting cam???????
couesarcher replied to gonhntn's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Does anybody know what is up with the website? Everytime I try and perform a search and I keep getting an error meassage that the site is experiencing problems. I know we've had this same subject before (how to build a trail camera), I remember reading it. I would be interested in building my own. I was going to search history on this site, there have been numerous posts on how to build, which cameras work best etc... I did look at the web site pixcontroller.com and want to comparewith what they had to the different posts here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Terry -
Thanks DesertBull, I can't wait to get my new camera and set it up. Terry

Great pictures, DesertBull. I didn't see your reply of what brand of camera. Is that a digital or 35 mm and what brand? How far away is the camera set up from the tank? I'm in the market for a new trail camera. I have a very inexspensive one now (stealth cam 35 MM) and I cannot figure out how to adjust the distance for tripping the camera to take pictures. Terry

I'm in the market for a new and larger pack, was looking at the Horn Hunter Mainbeam pack. Does anybody have this pack or is there an alternate that you would suggest? Thanks for any input Couesarcher Terry

I am also interested in starting to reload. My question is, there are several different makers of reloading equipment out there. RCBS, LEE, DILLON, LYMAN. All of them sell starter kits, which manufacture do you recommend or are they pretty much all the same? Terry

That is the biggest deer I have ever seen. That is truly impressive. What a gorgeous animal. Terry

I was in 37b this last weekend, down around the 96 ranch. I found a water hole off the beaten path that was just littered with Javelina tracks. Not much deer sign around the water hole. I hunted the area pretty hard saturday, glassed until my eyes were ready to fall out. Only saw 2 mule deer bucks, both fork horns and a coyote. Terry

I went out yesterday around 96 ranch to help a friend try and find a deer he shot last saturday. He said it was a 5 x 4 mule deer with cheaters. He hit it in the shoulder, did not leave a great blood trail. So far he has been unsuccessful in locating it. He has been out 3 of the last 5 days looking for it. He told me he going to give it a couple more trys in looking for it. That's a bummer when you can't locate an animal. I've been in that same situation before. Terry

I'm not sure if cover scents work or not. Are they overrated? My buddy that I hunt archery elk with, chews tobaco and he spits on the ground at the base of the tree. He has had elk walk within several feet of his tree and they don't spook. One day he was in his tree and dropped his hat and an elk actually stepped on his hat as it walked by. That ended up being the bull that he shot. Several weeks ago I was sitting a water hole with another friend. He had justed put out his cigarette when a doe came into the water hole. I am also starting to think like lark. Keeping the wind in your face at all time is the way to go. I don't know if thats a scary thing that I'm starting to think like lark. HA HA Terry

Becker, Just to set the record straight. The Terry your are talking about is 25-06. We were in that area this weekend. Terry?s (25-06) intention Sunday was to sit that tank. That all changed when we came into the spot and saw your quad. Terry asked if he should go down to the tank. I told him, if I was sitting there I would not want anybody coming in on me. So at that point we left our quads there and went up and over the top of the mountain towards park tank which is about a 1 ? back in. The individual and his wife that came in on you was a friend of Terry?s (25-06). What other people do, whether friends of yours or not, you have no control over. I?m sorry you had this much trouble this weekend. I too have this same situation happen to. That is why I told Terry not to go down to the tank. As for the other members who are going to judge anybody, point blame or refer to name calling. I believe there is a verse in the good book that goes something like this; ye without sin cast the first stone. I?m sure everybody whether knowingly or not has run into or come across an incident that caused some sort of misfortune to someone else. Just remember, there are always 2 sides to every story. I (couesarcher) was in there archery pig hunting while Terry was in there for archery deer. As far as the quads being were they were. The animals are not going to see the quads and say to themselves, there are hunters in here lets stay away. In fact when I came back from park tank, around 1 pm, I glassed the basin and spotted 2 does within 15 yards of the quads. We were not trying to get in front of you to take a deer as you claim. I talked to Terry (25-06) this morning; his computer is down so he is not able to comment on this situation. Again I want to apologies for you hardship on Sunday. We hope you have no hard feeling towards us. Terry (couesarcher) and Terry (25-06).

Scott, Your pictures are truely awesome. It makes us feel we are part your your hunt. The one picture of the 2 does with their backs to the camer and it appears there is a ghost (deer) facing the camera. So tell me how heavy are your 30's? How heavy is your pack when you go in the field? Terry

My 10 year old and I went out to 37b on monday. We spotted a herd of 8 pigs We were not able to get in on them. My 10 year old just doesn't understand the concept of being quite when you sneak in on them. They were gone by time we got in on them. I told him not worry. We made the rest of the day a fun time. Goofed around and spent some quality time together. Muskrat and Grizzly, If you guys want to hook up and meet. We can go out do some hunting together in 37b. Let me know. 26-06 (terry) I will probably come down to 33 in a couple weeks. Lets get together and look at those canyons we talked about. Terry

I don't post a lot, but I read new post just about every day. I'm quite confused, maybe someone can help me out. I know this is a coues website, but I also know a lot of you post info about other specis. My two youngest drew a 33 Jr pig tag, my oldest drew a 33 Ham tag and I drew a Archery 33 tag. These were all 3rd and 4th choices. I've tried to review old post, with not much luck. I've looked at the AZ G.F.D. web page hunting unit reports to get info about the unit. From everything I've read, they say the unit is littered with private property everywere. The confusing part to me, is I see all the photos and read the stories, then I hear all about the private property. Is there really that much private property in the unit and/or are there ways around the private property to hunt. I know nothing about this unit, so I will be spending as much time as possible down there. Starting this weekend, I will be going down there. Any info would be great. Terry

I drew a 37B archery pig tag. My son and daughter also drew a 37B Jr pig tag. This will be there first hunt. I'm so excited for them. I've never hunted 37B, so I guess it's time to start scouting Terry

Does anybody know when they might offer another Hunters Safety Course in the east valley before the spring hunts. I've looked at the azgfd web page. All they list is the outlying cities of the phoenix metro area. Need to start planning early. Thanks Terry

I also drew this same Dec tag. I have never been down in the southern part of the unit. All my time has been in the northern section. What type of terrain is in the southern portion. Is it rolling hills or canyons, thick nasty country (manzinata, scrub oak) or is open (juniper, ocitillo) country. Terry
