WOW really?
jonesface replied to azbirdhunter88's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Thats sucks man. I have had the same thing happen to me several times now. I have learned over the years to keep my really good honey holes to myself. I will take people into some of my good areas but not my best areas for quail. Even really good friends of mine have told others about my coues spots and within a few years that place is ruined. I'm with you, I have a little more common courtesy and respect of others. -
Anyone free tomorrow?

Not a bad day today

I hunt in and around cactus all the time. I try to avoid hunting areas with lots of cholla because my dog seems magnetize to it. But there is cactus in all 4 quail species habitat in Arizona. It seems you will come across it no matter where you hunt in AZ. I would invest in some Lewis dog boots. They do help but spines can still puncture them. Sorry this was for Zeke-BE -

az quail limited out
jonesface replied to azbirdhunter88's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Getting a limit of quail is really good for this year! Next year will even be better. There's nothing like hunting behind a good bird dog. -

Bird vest

http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/clothing/detail.asp?fid=053A&cid=300&tid=688 Here is the one I use. I think I bought it on Amazon over a year ago under $100. This vest does have a padded waist belt that you can tighten up to support most of the weight. After hunting in it over 30 times last season it started to smell like a sweaty hat. The nice thing about this vest you can throw it in the washer and dryer and it comes out like a new vest. -

I like my Browning strap vest. I would make sure you get a strap vest. It's too hot here to have a full vest. -
Congrats again Andrew! Thanks for the magazine!

It's good to hear all of these good Scalies reports.

That is awesome to hear the rebound of Scalies. Their numbers have been pretty low several years now. Congrats on your success! -
A 100 is A LOT of quail for only a half day hunt. I'm glad you guys got into them.
-
Congrats. Doing that solo and without a dog is hard to do. You got a good spot.
-
Awesome. Thank you
-
Very nice! Good job getting into them.

Good luck everyone

You are extremely lucky to have seen one. I know a guy who's been hunting in this state for over 50 years and has only came across 1 his entire life. I wish they could reproduce but they can't. They look really cool. David Brown a AZGF biologist mentions these birds in his book "Arizona Game Birds". -
I'm going out Tuesday. My quail spot will be a High of 77 that day. A little more bearable but not as cool as I would like it to be.

I'm ready! It should be a good season. I wont be able to go out till Monday the 5th๐ I have to work opening weekend. Watch out for snakes. I came across 3 rattlers while scouting out some quail areas this week.
