  1. Keven - Sure you can PM me with his name. If anyone has a close friend or family member that sells vehicles, let me know.
  2. OK, I need to buy a new truck for work. I only have about a month. I hate buying vehicles - I think I would rather have a root canal than deal with that. Anyway, I would rather give the business to a fellow outdoorsman if possible. The gist of it is, I am buying the vehicle but the company is going to pay for it up to a certain amount. Anything above that, I pay. Obviously, I want the "most truck" I can get for that amount, so options are wide open. Brands are wide open. Of course, I want 4x4, extended or crew cab, full size, etc. Based on the amount allotted, my "wishes" will probably be pared down to "needs" :-) Not really looking for advice, or dealer recommendations, per se.... just trying to give the business to "one of us"
  3. Doug - Just sent you an e-mail about a prize

Well, not THAT old, but here is a Maine buck shot in 1993. Famous (to some) Haynesville Woods in Northern Maine. This fork field-dressed at around 170 lbs.

    ADA Hunter Clinic

Great clinic! Nice to see Amanda, as usual - and some other old friends as well. Made some new ones too!

    ADA Hunter Clinic

I plan on being there, and bringing my daughter along. Will be interesting trying to make it on time from the far southeast traffic, especially hitting mid-town at 5ish....

    Tony's Party Questions

I can't go, but I can send something for the auction. Is there an easy way to get it from the southeast valley to Tony's side of town?

    Help Wanted

Skinny Moose Media/US Hunting Today has a lot going on. I don't feel any of it is in direct conflict or competition with Amanda's site, so that's why I thought I would post here. First and foremost, we're looking for bloggers. We provide your blogsite at no cost. There is some income opportunity for you, but I wouldn't call it second income either - think "beer fund", or "gadget money". Not only can individuals have blogs, but it might be a good means of getting info out there for your conservation group as well. Currently, most of our bloggers are hunting/fishing/outdoors/shooting related, but he is taking other bloggers at this time as well. They do provide some guidance on how to blog successfully. You can go to www.skinnymoose.com to see some sample blogs that people have going. Next, they are looking for State and Regional Marketing Directors pretty much across the country. They are also looking for people to run message boards in a bunch of different states. You can visit http://ushuntingtoday.com/news/employment-opportunities/ for more info on that. We have developed an online radio station and are looking for people to host radio shows. This is done basically, using your computer and a headset. For example, a group of folks from here could get together and create the CWT radio show. Basically he's looking for a 1/2 hour show per week. Obviously they probably would be recorded ahead of time. Again, he is looking for clubs, conservation groups, individuals, whatever. This is a pretty cool opportunity as well. For questions or more info, feel free to PM me or e-mail muskrat89@gmail.com
  11. When I rode around with Ben Brochu, the WM for 37B, we talked a lot about water projects. It seems resources in the Department are stretched thin by times, and if they sub-contract out for a backhoe and operator, it significantly increases the cost of building a water catchment. What he would really like to see, is a donation of an operator and backhoe for a day, maybe 2x per year. That kind of a donation will, in effect, let him build 2 waterholes for the budgeted price of one. It is a safe bet that most of the other WMs in desert units would benefit from the same kind of donation. Ben said even if he could just get the backhoe donated, he could probably scrounge up operators. I'm working on this through other means as well, but also thought I would start posting this up on the message boards. If required, the donations could be tax-deductible. Contact myself, or Ben (he's a member here) for more info. Thanks!

    Prickly Pear season

Thanks Amanda. My website is having a get-together next weekend, on the southern end of Hwy 79. My daughter and I were planning on attending. While pig hunting on the weekend, I found vast areas loaded with prickly pear that would've been easy picking for my daughter, and was a convenient stop on the way to the get-together. This started out as a "bonus" to our day together next Saturday, not the "main project" :-) Anyway, I found some BLM land on the map by the Florence-Kelvin Hwy, I may just swing by there. We'll see. I'll e-mail Paul as well.

    Prickly Pear season

State Ag guy called me back. There are no restrictions on prickly pear fruit. Their (State Ag Dept) jurisdiction includes BLM land, state land (excluding state trust land) and private land.

    Prickly Pear season

No good deed goes unpunished I called BLM. They said that the State retained the rights to all plants and cactii - I needed to call the State Dept of Agriculture. I called there, got transferred around 3 times, and ended up at some guys voicemail box. All I wanted to do was take my daughter out, and pick some prickly pear fruit, so she could try making jelly. It's really no wonder that the average Joe Citizen does whatever they want. It's hard to figure out the rules; the Departments are too short-staffed to enforce them, if you do figure them out...

    Prickly Pear season

Its mostly state trust land. There is some BLM and private. I'll have to hit the maps.

    Prickly Pear season

Bwahahahaha Anyway, I called and "no natural products can come off of State Trust Land". That's wild - how many people just do whatever? What about the cows tearing everything all to heck? Interesting.. He did say BLM is great to work with - find some of their land...

Thanks - I was looking up their number at the same time you were :-) I'll let you know what they say.

Who do I call if it is State Trust Land?

Do you need a permit just to pick the fruit?? I didn't think you did, but found this article while searching for recipes... http://www.azcentral.com/health/diet/artic...rickly0531.html

    Sport hunting

I'll bite.. In my mind, anyone that isn't hunting commercially (seals, for example) or sustenance (Inuits, for example) is sport hunting. That pretty much includes all of us.

    Choice Of Words

I think this is the key. How many of you hate it when the AZ Republic calls an "illegal alien" anything but? (Don't want this to turn into a thread on that, it's just an example we can all relate to) I used to talk to my soldiers in a different manner than I talked to the town "old maids" at a tea party, where I was representing the Regiment. I talk to my co-workers differently than I talk to customers. I talk to adults differently than I talk to my daughter. This is "our house" - well, Amanda's house. I see no reason to be ultra-sensitive here. I don't worry about what an anti thinks - there is no changing their mind. I am sensitive to a non-hunter that may stop in. That's why I hate seeing photos that are gory, or vivid descriptions of bad shots. To change "kill" to "harvest", on a hunting website? Sorry, I'm not buying it - although I understand the spirit of the sentiment.

    Desert carp

I don't know where he is, but I was pig hunting in 37B yesterday, and at one point the thermometer in my truck read 114 degrees! Ick Congrats on the great buck!
  23. Thanks for the comments everyone. We did see a lot of quail, and interestingly, a lot of buzzards and ravens that day. Stopped to see what some buzzards were eating, and it turned out to be a freshly killed bull snake. We also saw a "red racer" which I had never seen before. Man, you can see where they got their name.... I have hunted 37B for 3 or 4 years now. The pigs there are my nemesis. No pigs in all that time. Friday, I take another crack at them...
  24. I met Ben through this site, and recently went on a ride-along with him. I posted the story and pics on my blog... Unit 37B Ride-Along A couple of stories previous to that one, I posted an interview with the President of Sonoran Bowhunting Products. Pretty interesting!
