I will be there at the Skinny Moose Media booth. I should also have some Vortex catalogs, if anyone wants one.

Was sad to hear of his passing. I thought you might be friends, Tony. I posted the info up on some of the other sites last night. -
Donations sought for AZ Deer Association auction
muskrat replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Amanda - I think Vortex would like to help. They asked me to get a flyer regarding the banquet. I'll try and pull it from the site. If someone could e-mail one to me that would help too. Marshall E-mail address 3rca AT cox.net -
I posted some neat photos of 4 lynx, over on my blog. They've been generating a lot of interest, thought some of you may be interested. http://arizonahuntingtoday.com/desertrat/2...os-canada-lynx/ They are from New Brunswick, Canada

Some of you may know that I'm the Field Staff guy for Vortex in Arizona. I've been telling them all along that if they wanted to grow in AZ, they needed to get going on some high-powered glass. Well, they listened to somebody - this year's lineup includes an expanded Viper series, including 8.5x50, 10x50 and 15x50 Catalog is here: http://www.vortexoptics.com/files/cat_vt2008hunting.pdf

Grizzly Bear Vs. Caribou
muskrat replied to KidBowHunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I wonder why it decided to make a stand, instead of running away.... I know bears can run fast, but you'd think it's chances would have been a little better.. -
Ross Outdoors might have some..

Although we saw no bucks while hunting "up the hill", my friend had this button buck and a bunch of does come down to his house every day while I was there on my hunt (9-11 Nov, 35A) Some pics of a couple of does on the hillside as well.

Trashy Wash
muskrat replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
A friend of mine lives near Sierra Vista, at the base of a mountain in the Huachucas. Imagine this less than 500 yards from your house. He's had people leave his water running all night, knock on his door - you name it. He brings garbage down off of the hill behind his house on a regular basis. -
I just got back from a 3-day hunt in 35A. A friend took me to a honeyhole that has yielded bucks basically every November for the last 30 years. All we saw were does...

I had to stop at WalMart tonight to pick up some groceries and other odds and ends. I was running a little early, and the haircut place (in WalMart) only had a couple people inside, so I decided to put my name down, grab my items, and get a haircut. Well, I did my shopping took my cart and went over and sat down. They were ready for me in less than 5 minutes. I pulled the cart around where I would be able to see it, and sat down. Anyway, I got yakking with the barber dude, paid the guy and walked out.... cart was gone. I checked with the managers and cashiers that were right there - no one saw anything. They got another Manager to go in and look at the security tapes. Sure enough, a lady walked up with an empty cart, grabbed mine, and walked away. Talk about nads. Although technically they weren't responsible, WalMart apologized and replaced all of my goods - about $66 worth.

Moving into a new house in mid/late December. I'm going to try and do something with the backyard. No grass. Maybe a fire pit and/or BBQ, some xeriscape, a little water thing, and maybe some flagstone. I can help with the labor.. :-) Small backyard - typical new subdivision.

Made me homesick. Thanks Amanda!!

Happy Birthday Amanda

Happy Birthday, Amanda! Enjoy that Maine lobstah -
matty - I think there's more porcupines than anything else where I come from.. they are excellent climbers and can often be found up in birch trees and other hardwoods, having a snack. One day out in the woods (in New Brunswick) I was checking my trapline and heard this gawd-awful crying and squalling coming from about 200 yards away. It was like nothing I'd ever heard - not bobcat, not human, not lynx, not dying rabbit.. just awful screams/cries/moans So, I crept over to where the noise was - lo and behold, 2 porcupines were - ummm - procreating

I tried to help spread the word about this via my blog. Lance helped me out with some photos. Bloggers were linking to my story from as far away as Maine and even Australia, but no one "major" seems to care. People have to see this for themselves, to be able to even begin to understand how bad it is... http://arizonahuntingtoday.com/desertrat/2...-to-skin-a-cat/

Awesome! Congratulations...

I'm in Johnson Ranch, not too far away. I'll try and stop by....

A Real Tough Way to Start a Tough Hunt.

Glad Ingrid is OK, Matt. Glad you got some field time in as well. There are some pretty ignorant people running up and down the roads.... good luck in your search.
