I'm in Queen Creek - not too far away

October 24B Coues for me.

Sometimes when in Tucson on business (or otherwise) I like to take 79 home when possible. I generally stop at the rest area, and take a 10 minute walk into the desert. There's usually stuff in there too.

The past 2 years I have hunted 35A at a friend's house. Well, I'm sitting here moping because it looks like I can't make the trek down to his place as planned this year. I was just putting in for a bonus point, but am getting the itch. Now I am debating, admittedly last minute - whether to put in for a closer Unit or just bowhunt this fall and winter. I've spent a lot of time in 37B, for example, and can count on two hands how many deer I have seen in the last 5 or 6 years, in that Unit. My wife is disabled and needs overnight care. the last 2 years she had a helper; that person has moved away. So, I can put in for a "commuter" unit (I live in Queen Creek) or just take a pass this year. That being said, I don't want to put in for a tag "just because" either. With my situation at home, I really need to put in for something within an hour or so. Willing to hunt mulies or Coues (I know - I'm a heretic)

It's only a block or two away from my house. I'll have to stop in soon!
-
jlg - I thought of that too. I took a little over an hour. Definitely doable Coues krazy - I've scouted in the Payson area, but have limited exposure in 22. Will look over the Unit report tonight ac guy - you gonna be hunting 24B? we can take another crack at a joint venture.... Thanks everyone. I appreciate you taking the time to respond and offer advice. mm

Thanks - Those were the first ones that came to my mind also.

I don't have enough experience or knowledge to be a board member, and it is hard for me to travel too far. That being said, if you need help with the magazine, newsletter or in the Press Release/PIO end of things, I'm happy to do what I can.

I don't think it was a site-specific topic. We saw the same phenomenon on the same date over on my message board, and back then we didn't have very many members at all. I think at the time we researched and thought it was some web crawlers or bots... From my site: Most users ever online was 387, 06-26-2007 at 07:55 AM.

Draw Results Bring Adventures For Sick Kids The Arizona Chapter of Hunt of a Lifetime (HOAL) is gearing up for a new year. Phoenix, AZ – March 26, 2009 Late March finds hunters all over Arizona anxiously awaiting elk and antelope draw results. Later in the fall, they will repeat the process, trying to draw tags for bear, bighorn sheep and other big game species. Like every year, some hunters are elated, others are bitterly disappointed. As time marches on, though – even the best plans can come unraveled. HOAL would like to remind hunters that the donation of a big game tag can literally be the “Hunt Of A Lifetime” for a very ill child. Maybe you can’t get the time off of work; maybe you have a friend that drew a tag and due to circumstances simply cannot attend; perhaps you have even had a close friend or relative pass away, leaving behind a coveted tag that can’t be used. Know that an unfortunate situation can be turned into something awesome for a child with a debilitating illness. With a big-game tag in hand, HOAL can match a kid on their waiting list with the hunt of their lifetime. Please take the time to visit our website at www.hoalarizona.org . There you can see the kids and their stories and also find out how you can help. Our “How You Can Help” page will show you some of the things we need this year, as well as providing instructions for making a donation. If there's something there you can help with please contact the Arizona/New Mexico Ambassador Nate Medcalf or one of the committee members listed on our site. Only listed committee members are authorized to receive or solicit donations on behalf of our organization. As always the cornerstone of our program is the Game and Fish provision that allows hunters who have drawn a tag to donate it to 501©3 groups such as our for use by the kids. This is accomplished through a tag transfer. If you find yourself with a tag you are not going to be able to use please consider donating it to our program.” Although the most direct way to help this program is to donate your big game tag, there are lots of ways to contribute. When a youngster is accepted into the program, they receive a total hunt package including equipment, transportation (air and car), a guide/outfitter, lodging, meat processing and delivery, as well as taxidermy and delivery of their mount at no cost. They are allowed to bring one parent along on their hunt. There are many ways people can help, besides donating tags. Individuals or businesses can assist in providing hotel accommodations. The donation of frequent flier miles is always appreciated. Embroidery and silk-screening services for hats and shirts make a terrific donation, as do printing services for brochures and business cards. Sporting goods gift certificates help in providing equipment to the kids. Guide and Outfitter services always help ensure a top-notch experience for these kids. With gas prices never a sure thing, prepaid gas cards would be greatly appreciated, and of course, cash is always needed and appreciated. "Hunt Of A Lifetime" is a nonprofit organization with a mission to grant hunting & fishing adventures and dreams for children age 21 and under, who have been diagnosed with life threatening illnesses. To learn more, please visit www.hoalarizona.org or contact Nate Medcalf at the phone number listed above.

You're welcome folks. I hope the passes were there, with no hiccups... -
Due for an update... I've worked as a Project Manager for an electrical testing company the past 2 years or so. We do electrical testing, maintenance and engineering studies. In spite of the economy, we're still swamped and growing... Me, however - time for a change. I've accepted a position as the Facilities Manager at the U of A College of Medicine in downtown Phoenix. My first day is the 16th. I was a Facilities Manager before, and I'm looking forward to returning..

Is a guided hunt as satisfying as do-it yourself?
muskrat replied to lousyhunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
So, if you want to hunt in Maine, how would you know where to go? If I don't know how to build my kitchen cabinets, I hire a cabinet maker or carpenter. I don't consider it lazy or wasteful. I am capable of building a set of cabinets - they might not look like much, but I could knock them together. Does that mean I'm lazy, or frivolous with my money? If I spend a lot of money to begin with, to draw a NR tag in another state, and travel to that state? Why would you not want to make the most of your effort and expense, by hiring someone who know the area, habits, etc? Most (if not all) Canadian provinces require non-residents to have a guide, by law. Even Canadians from other provinces! -
Anyone else get an e-mail containing photos of a 145+ ? Supposedly taken in 35A during the October hunt, by a youngster - his first deer. The originator of the e-mail seems to be the Wildlife Manager in Sierra Vista....
