Does anyone have a March scope I could come look through?
briant_az replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Optics and tripods
Brad at Phoenix Custom Rifles had a S&B on a 7mag a couple years ago. You might ask him if he still has it. Maybe you could go over there and look through it. -
At least this one already comes with a scope, that's one less thing to worry about!

I'm in no way an expert but here is my opinion, granted I've only been hunting for 8 years or so. The most recent scope I purchased was a Leupold Vx-6 4-24x56 MOA. The 2 I bought before it, were both Vortex Razors, 5-20x56 FFP MRAD. The biggest thing I was looking for was a zero stop. I can't tell you how many times I've heard my friends say they were unsure if they put their scope back to zero after shooting at something. Sometimes it's easy to tell, other times not so much. For me it was a must. When I bought the razors I was reading the pros about FFP and decided I'd check it out. Having the same zero throughout the magnification adjustment was a plus for sure! Learning the MRAD turrets was a change but I tape the drop chart to the gun so no big deal. The Razors are great and the zero stop is awesome. For me 20x or more is also a plus. The down side to them were weight and turret size. The oversized exposed turrets are nice but a little to big at times. I'm really glad I bought the VX-6. The more I thought about it, I began to realize one thing; all the shots I've taken at Coues deer, were with the scope on full power. SFP would be good enough. With the CDS turrets you can get a zero stop turret. Lighter than the Razor and I believe lighter than the nightforce also. I put it on a 300 RUM and although I only get one rotation on the turret, it's good out to 950. I shot my buck in Mexico a couple weeks ago at 727 and its a lot easier to have the yardage on the turret vs MOA or MRAD adjustments. The biggest recommendations I have for you is take your time and look at as many scopes as you can. Think about all the features of each scope and if you would actually use them or not. I will say, check out the VX-6 it's an awesome scope for sure!

7mm Rem Mag Memorial Build
briant_az replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Hey Lance you know I don't work too far away from them. I can pick it up and shoot it a little for you, if you want! 😜 -
I will be headed down on the 16th for my first hunt in Mexico. I'm excited and a little nervous. I can't wait to see the ranch and start hunting! Good luck to everyone else that is going!

Can't believe that I won! Like I said before I usually don't win anything. We need to do the again next year for sure. There needs to be some trash talking and some kind of trophy involved though!

Btw congratulations. Nothing better than filling that tag on the last day!

Wow no butchering this guy for tag placement??? I see some people are going to be less nazi-ish for the new year! Glad to see it!

Looking to buy or trade for 500-1000. I know they are very hard to find, I've been looking for over 6 months. I have 210m's that I'd be willing to trade. Please let me know if you have any.

Get a hold of Southernxpress (Todd) on here, he is a local guy in Mesa. I've had him build 2 guns for me. Todd is a great guy and does great work. I've also had a gun built by Phoenix Custom Rifles that is awesome. Can't go wrong with either one!

New rifle caliber choice? You tell me!
briant_az replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Long Range Shooting
300 ultra mag. It can be hard to find things for this caliber at times but right now you can find stuff online. The hardest thing for me to find is Fed 215. I would say 280ai would be a good choice also. Just as good as a 7mm mag but no need for a break. Also only need large rifle primers, not magnum. -
I have both brands of barrels on rifles, they are both good. I would keep what was sent to you. I own a .260 with a Bartlein barrel, its the most accurate gun I own.

2015 Coues (Finally broke the 110" mark)
briant_az replied to azryan's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
This story says a lot about you as a person. There is no way I could let someone else shoot at that buck. Good job introducing a first timer to hunting! -
I was shooting the nightmares out of a DPMS ar15. Shot as good as I can with an AR platform, about 1.5" at 100 yards. I can't shoot an ar platform very accurately at all. Im kind of spoiled by Timney triggers in all my bolt guns. I'd take $140 for all the .204 bullets and $60 for the .284. I have another box of the varmint nightmares too with about 100 left that I'd throw in if you bought them also.
