    12A Archery Kaibab Deer

I don't believe you can anymore. Maybe this was the case the first few years after the draw but I believe it's going in the first two rounds now. I could be mistaken. Going to have to take a close look at the draw report...Going by 2013 numbers there were 1076 people that had that hunt as a first or second choice and only 700 tags, so no third choice applicants were drawn.

    12A Archery Kaibab Deer

Glad to hear you still haven't given up on the Ol Kaibab Roy! Also nice to hear there are stilI a few good bucks. I will give it another go next year. Had to put my (almost) annual Kaibab hunt on hiatus the last couple of years. In 2012 I killed a buck in January and in 2013 I didn't have enough vacation time to go on that hunt after drawing elk. My wife just had a baby a few months ago, so by next year, I will be READY! Sure draw for next year. I believe I have 5 deer points now. Thanks for the update. Great info as always!

    RIP Chester Crandell

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Chester Crandell. Sorry to see one of the good guys go out like that. At least he was doing something he loved in God's creation. Peace. Check out this link, AZSFWC sent a questionnaire out to all potential elected representatives. Chester answered them the good ol fashioned way. Check out his answers. I think you'll agree he was one of the old school guys who will be sorely missed. http://arizonasportsmenforwildlifeconservation.org/Chester_Crandell.pdf

    WTB Youth Hunting Pack

I have an older version of the Cabela's Elite Scout pack that has faded somewhat, but still in decent shape otherwise. I'll send it to you for the cost of shipping if you are interested. If it doesn't work for your daughter, no big loss, just pay it forward to the next youngster or needy hunter. Let me know via PM if you might be interested in it.
  5. A Kaibab Habitat stamp is no longer required. They stuck everybody with a habitat fee when we apply for a hunt whether we draw the tag or not. Kaibab National Forest as well as the rest of the Forests did extensive Travel Management planning. My understanding is that limited cross country travel is allowed only on certain routes. Here is a URL to the route map for North Kaibab: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3805086.pdf Good Luck, have fun, and please let us know how it goes when you return from your hunt.

    FS Wall tent barrel stove

Now this is my kind of topic. I ran that exact model stove in a rented 12x14 wall tent and it will crank out the heat but it needs to be loaded pretty often unless you have really good and dry hardwood to burn. You might be able to extend burn times a bit by adding a gasket to the door. I was very close to buying this stove for my tent but ended up going with a 3 Dog stove for the baffled design and Made in USA factor. For the money this stove is tough to beat. Good luck with the sale!

Repairing hiking boot with Mcnett seam grip

Thanks for the report on the utility of this product. I have a backpacking tent which has seam grip tape that has dried up and cracked on the rainfly. I need to re-seal the seams. This stuff will probably do a great job. Much appreciated Amanda!
  8. The smile on your face in your photo says it all (excellent photo by the way)! Congratulations on your success! I also killed my first elk with archery gear and I am totally hooked. Hope your success continues. Thanks for sharing.

    RIP Chester Crandell

Thanks for sharing that Jay. I never had the pleasure of meeting the man but he clearly had the values of someone that I would love to call a neighbor or a friend. I'm sorry for your loss and that of his family but it gives me peace to know that he loved the Lord and now has his Victory in Heaven.

    18 points for Elk

If someone in my family had that many points built up I would highly encourage them to hold out for an early tag in Unit 1 for whatever choice of weapon they preferred. There may be bigger bulls or more of them in Unit 9 or 10 or wherever, but to me a huge part of the hunt is the experience and your surroundings. In my humble opinion there is no more beautiful country in the State of Arizona than that country up around Springerville, Greer, Big Lake, Alpine, etc. For me, that is what I imagine when I think of a high country elk hunt. I feel that it is even better now with all the good forage after the Wallow Fire. This will peak at some point and slowly start degrading back to "normal". Although I have only hunted there twice, I am getting to know my way around pretty well and with enough time and effort I feel that we could be successful with a great representative of the species with a little luck from the good Lord. Good Luck on your hunt. There is some really good advice on this thread. I wish I had your problem! LOL! Nick

    Mady's Bull

Congratulations to Mady and Dad! What a fantastic experience for the young lady. After hearing about this bull last fall I couldn't wait to see the pics. Well worth the wait I must say! Can't wait to see how the mount turns out. High five the youngster for us! Thanks for sharing! Nick almost forgot Justin, way to support your friend and help with that bull! That's what good friends are all about!

    Wtb max 1 camo

Cabela's usually has some really good deals on camo clothes this time of year. You might be able to buy new stuff on sale for very few dollars.

    Suzuki Samurai 4x4

Can't blame me for trying, LOL! That is the perfect off road machine. Someone would have to be an idiot to go buy a $12,000 side by side when they could have this for 1/3 the price!

    Williams Coues and Bass?

Personally, I've never heard of a coues deer in Unit 10. Farthest north and west I've heard of is in Sycamore Canyon between 6B and 8, but they are expanding their range. There are javelina there though for sure, so who knows, maybe the coues are not far behind. Most certainly is mule deer country though. Good Luck!
  19. Hoping Big Browns will see this!

    Suzuki Samurai 4x4

Dude, you're killing me! I want one bad, but no funds to do it right now. I do have a boat I would trade you if interested. It's a 1984? 16 ft Sea Nymph with a 28 HP Johnson Special. I am the second owner. The boat has a working livewell and trolling motor, platforms in front and back. Side console steering. Needs a little work (batteries and a tune up) but an excellent boat!

    Broadheads

I personally haven't tried them but they are the latest and greatest with a lot of the guys on Bowsite. They also have some issues with the steel, but in this case too soft from reports I've heard. Their 3 blade broadhead is the same basic design as the Montec, Snuffer SS, Hellrazor, etc except that this version is machined out of a piece of steel, which is attractive from a build criteria. Very durable head but tough to keep them sharp from what I have read but I have no direct experience. One thing I will add is no other company beside Magnus will give you a free replacement warranty, no questions asked. VPA will try to pretend they have a replacement warranty but their's is not on the same level as Magnus. They don't care what you did with the head, if it no longer works for you they will replace it, period. There is no other company in the archery industry with that kind of service. Magnus will get my business until something way better comes along.

mountain lion ready for pick up

Wow, that looks great Jim! Lions and cats in general seem to be the critters that separate the "men from the boys" when it comes to taxidermists.
