Heat replied to Flatlander's topic in Antelope Hunting
Can't wait to see how this thread continues to develop. Great job so far. I have a feeling its about to get real good! Best of Luck on your hunt although I doubt you're going to need much luck as you look very prepared! Git R Done! -
Nice report. Thanks for sharing. With the number of encounters you're having it's only a matter of time! Best of Luck!

Great job! That is a fine looking deer there for a first timer or a veteran hunter. Congratulations!

Lots of guys around here have one. The breed you are referring to is called the Australian Cattle Dog. They can be blue or red. Very smart and loyal but really need a job to do. If you live in an apartment and will be gone all day I would highly recommend you don't get this dog. If you live on a farm where the dog can keep himself occupied with the other critters or you are going to have it with you all day, they make great companions, but left alone to their own devices without direction they can cause issues like digging, chewing, etc. etc. I love em!

Cool river goat! -
Nice report! Thanks for sharing with us landlocked types. Those skipjack tuna are some of the best fish for sashimi I've ever had.

I just wanted to say I've never heard of Game and Fish being called "cattle and carp" before...lionhunter you made my day, LOL!

Great animals! Thanks for the report and pics. Way to "represent", LOL! Go Wildcats!

Very cool, good luck. I would imagine that public land worth hunting is a pretty hot commodity during the season in Illinois compared to AZ. Hope you have someone that can do some scouting for you and you can find a little piece of paradise all to yourself. Have fun!

I chose 6B because I know it better than pretty much any other Unit in the state. I wouldn't hesitate to hunt Unit 8 either. The 5s can also be great hunts. My cousin has the Peaks rifle hunt this year and I'm going to try to make it for his hunt. Hit me up in late October and I'll give you the report of his hunt.

Right on! The miracle of life is such a sweet occasion. Thank you for sharing with us. You have a beautiful family. Congratulations to you and your wife! Nick

Was trying to put a sneak on a herd a couple of years ago in Unit 1 and they seemed to be getting frisky. About that time I noticed two other guys coming up behind me. When the bull came through the opening I stopped him at around 80 yards with my diaphragm call. He paused for a moment but saw his ladies making their way out of there so he didn't hesitate long. When the two guys saw the bull they started hitting that stupid Hoochie Mama about 100 times a minute and I don't think the elk stopped running until they hit New Mexico. I have honestly never seen elk react so negatively to a call. Maybe it was their method, but I was not impressed with their "calling". Neither were the elk. Nick

Amanda has been called out for the Ice Challenge

I saw George "dubya" Bush take the challenge. If he can do it, YOU CAN DO IT! PS Coors Whitetail has a pretty good ring to it..."Kill a deer, drink a beer. Coors!" -
Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter is my favorite fixed blade hunting knife in my collection at the moment. That is one seriously stout little knife with perfect ergonomics, a razor sharp blade, and a very grippy handle material. I also carry a Benchmade mini-griptilian 555 just about everywhere I go. Love that knife. I have a few Made in USA Kershaws that I won't be parting with if I can help it. I want to try a Buck 113 Ranger skinner someday.

I was lucky to be able to go on the WMAT turkey hunt in 2010. Boy what a year that was! The turkeys were everywhere and ready to die! Done with two birds by 9:30 AM. I posted a thread from my hunt back then. Nick

I'm a big Kifaru fan, good luck with your purchase, but I would caution you not to look at their site anymore because they keep innovating and sooner or later you WILL want another pack! LOL!

Kifaru tipi or Sawtooth, Seek Outside tipi or Backcountry Shelter 2. Stand up room for two guys and gear under 5 lbs. capable of heating with a wood stove.

I read every review on every canvas wall tent I could find on the internet. I researched for probably ten years before I finally pulled the trigger and bought a tent. I rented one before I bought so that I knew for sure what I was getting into. Finally bought one this spring on a Scratch and Dent sale that Davis had. Excellent customer service for sure. Great price on the best product in the market AFAIC. I bought the 12x14 water and mildew treated tent, which will sleep 3 on cots with a stove and a big table in the tent no problem. Got a back window and a screen on the front door with the traditional poles set up. Good Luck and let me know if you have any questions. Nick

I see that there is a whole new management strategy for the bison herd on the Kaibab plateau. Very disappointed to see that the opportunity to hunt bison during the deer hunts has gone away. As a bowhunter, I looked forward to one day having a bison and deer tag in my pocket for the Kaibab. I guess that can still happen but it will cost a lot more and I will probably have to wait a lot longer. I also think the price of the tag is way to high considering the limited opportunity presented. I'm curious what you guys think? Take a look at the new regulations and let me know.
