  1. Dicks not selling ARs is the least of my worries. Assault Weapons ban 2018 however should get all of our attention. Looks like most of the Democrats signed on. https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/5087/text

    1 Day!!!

I've never had more than 6 points for elk. I've had 3 bull tags and 2 cow tag going back to around 2001 or so.
  3. I don't use them but don't have a major issue with cams. Like most things in life some people when given an inch will take a mile and that's where we are now. Many, not all, have abused their priveledge and now everyone will suffer because of the ridiculous proliferation in some areas.

Police: Son knocked dad out in fight over dinnertime texting

Forgot to mention my Dad was raised in an orphanage in the Bronx and was an ANGLICO Marine. I never even thought about challenging him for one second but never had a problem standing up for myself. I also had an older brother and lots of cousins and got my butt handed to me on the regular.

Police: Son knocked dad out in fight over dinnertime texting

I can relate. I have two stepsons (fraternal twins, seniors in high school) that both tried to challenge me physically within about a week of each other when they were screaming at and trying to intimidate their Mom. I don't take that crap in my house. Never had to hit them but lets just say they won't mess with me or their Mom anymore.

Want to learn more about fishing

Trout from Big Lake like this (this one is a cuttbow I think) are a blast to catch on light tackle when the ice first melts and the water is cold. Feels like a much bigger fish when they bite! There are much bigger ones in there than this. Good Times.

Want to learn more about fishing

A lot of good advice here. A hungry trout will eat just about anything, it's the picky times you have to be prepared for. Lots of fishing for bass, panfish, and catfish where I live but only winter stocking for trout. Escaping the heat and fishing in the cooler part of the state for trout is one of my absolute favorite things to do. I wish I could do it more often but I usually make at least one trip a year. 4-6 pound test is very helpful unless you are somewhere with heavy current. Then maybe 8. For the stocked trout throughout most of Arizona 4# test is plenty. Lightest weight possible to get your bait where it needs to be. Think split shot. Shouldn't take more than a couple unless it is really windy. One is usually plenty. I like to use a bobber when I think there are fish near the surface and just use weight when they are near the bottom. A nightcrawler or piece of one will catch just about any fish in North America. I usually start with that. A worm blower helps if you are fishing near the bottom. Presentation is what will help you get bit more. Can't just wad a piece of worm or worms on the hook like you would for panfish or catfish. Need to make it look alive as much as possible. There are some good diagrams on the net if you need a visual for how to hook your nightcrawler. When fishing from a boat or along a shoreline with plenty of room I also like a 7' ultralite set up. Along creeks I like the shorter rods. When fishing the creeks in the White Mountains I don't use any weight, just a piece of nightcrawler on a hook. When fishing at a place like Big Lake where you have a chance at a bigger fish, I like using a whole nightcrawler and really focus on a good presentation. Have a net if you want to keep and eat your fish. Those things can flop off a hook in no-time especially once you get them near the surface. Good Luck and let us know, or better yet show us how it goes!
  14. Went out with my cousin over the weekend and kept my streak alive. Found some deer but never saw a javelina or any fresh sign. Just some digging maybe a week old and some old turds near a den. Normal hunts I can display how bad I really suck when I shoot about 3 arrows and miss or maybe wound one but couldn't even find a herd this time. Undisputed World Champion Worst Javelina Hunter

  17. OK guys, I had a weak moment and did something I will probably regret for a while and sold my Pro Gear 545 (2 of them) and Pro Gear 251 a few years ago. The 545's were my go to 30# bait and jig reels. The 251 with a 270-8 was my 20# ace in the hole. Caught a lot of albies and yellows with that little black beauty! I still have a few rigs I can use to fish 30# line but wondering what you guys would do in my situation. I have 2 reels that I am contemplating putting on my 30# rod which is a custom Calstar 870H. #1 option is Shimano TLD Star 15/30 and the #2 option is a plain jane Penn 500 Jigmaster. I think the drag is better on the 15/30 but probably get more line capacity on the Penn 500. Which reel would you put on given the two options I currently have available? I'm leaning on putting 200-250 yards of spectra on the 15/30 and running about 100 yards of mono topshot on it. With the Jigmaster I would probably run straight mono since the smaller diameter line could possibly get stuck between the spool and frame on that one and 300 yards of mono is probably plenty. The TLD Star is probably better for casting, so another reason I am leaning that way. Am I on the right track? Any other reels that I should be contemplating even if I have to buy another one or trade? The other reel will probably be used for #25 or #20 on an older Fenwick Pacificstik 15-50# rated rod. This is in addition to a few other rigs including a one piece frame topless Penn 113 matched with an 865XH for 40#. Also have a Calcutta 400s matched with a Terramar rod for 15#. I still feel like I can get on a 2 day and do some damage with these rigs and not have to buy anything else. I will admit though that the talk earlier about the newer spinning reels has me tempted to get a 20# saltwater spinning set up. One of these days I'm buying a trolling rig too. Any and all opinions welcome!
  18. Ya they quit making those TLD Star reels a long time ago. I still have one though. Its been upgraded from the bushing in the side plate to a bearing. It built like a tank, still free spools nice, and the drags are smooth so ya that's where I'm headed! If necessary I can switch the drags out to something like carbontex from smoothdrags in the future, maybe find a different handle.

LOL, so true! The guys I was talking about were a bunch of crusty old Korean war vet types using their catfishing rod that's probably been sitting in the garage in the Yuma heat since the early 80's! No doubt there is some excellent spinning gear now.

Ya man a coffee grinder has no place during a hot bluefin bite either. I'll never forget the carnage of gear I saw after a big school came through and a few guys with their spinning gear getting smoked and broke! LOL! We were on the Success and it took a little hollering by Cary to wake some of them up and grab the boat rods. It was a great display of how important it is to have functional gear and fresh line when the bigger models come through!
