This trip is still really in early phases. Not sure about a defined "Chartermaster" yet. Honestly I doubt we will get more than half a dozen guys that are willing to plop the $ down to do this when the time comes. Too many variables for dozen or two people to reach consensus on. If it does happen though I'm in if I can swing it!

Cool pooch, good luck finding him a home! My buddy when I was a kid had an Airedale. That dog was game for whatever and was a loyal companion for a bunch of kids.

I want to bump this to the top so we don't forget. Keep it fresh you know! I think it might be cool if we do a Poll for which boat. Maybe list 5-10 to choose. Here's a rundown of my Top 5 based on experience, fish counts, and reviews (Long Range boats not considered): 1. Outrider 2. Success 3. New Lo An (for open party, probably too big to Charter for our group) 4. Aztec (same as above) 5. Pacific Queen (might be tough to get a large group on but these guys can't be ignored)

Sweet man I'm in. Thanks for doing this Adam! I know I need some distraction from all the interference in this world. This should be good medicine for you brother and to some degree us as well. Best of Luck!

I have bought a lot of Browning X Bolts over the years as prizes for the Deer Contest I used to run and people seemed to like them. I like the A Bolts too. They still have some with the wood stocks. Tikka is also a nice rifle. Pretty sure they still make one with a wood stock.

Your friend either doesn't hunt or is making a grave error in judgement that will bite him in the butt for years to come.

I carry an Accusharp in my pack for touching up an edge in the field. I have DMT Diasharp diamond stones at home for more intense work.

A Buck 110 and a Forschner/Victorinox 6 inch semi flex curved boning knife and a good sharpener is all you will ever need.

Yours was definitely bigger than my 30#ers. I'd say 40 easy, maybe almost 50.

Yellowfin tuna is ahi, yellowtail is hamachi. A yellowtail is nothing like a tuna. If you are familiar with sushi maybe that helps. Neither are great for your typical baja style fish taco. I would prefer trigger or rockfish all day long.

Oscars in SD has some killer tuna tacos! Different for sure.

From 5 Star Fish Processing where I took mine: Tuna less than 15# 20-30% Tuna 15-45# 25-35% Tuna greater than 45# 30-40%

Thats a lot of casualties!

New Lo An has been one of the top boats for about as long as I've been involved in this. The skipper has a great reputation as you could see from what was on that video. Every boat has their bad days, but sometimes its the entire fleet as we have seen the last week or so. Seems like boats like the New Lo An have less of those than a lot of others.

Sweet, I dig it! First time ever I took my catch to the processors so mine is all vacuum sealed up nice. Went from the boat to my freezer in less than 5 hours.
-
Dude you even have the good hot sauce! So when are we going to trade some bluefin for some grouper?

Sorry about the tough trip man. I hope and pray that will never happen to me but if you fish enough it is inevitable. Sounds like maybe you guys went out to the Cortes Bank possibly? That place is gnarly.

Believe it or not I was able to get a couple text messages out while I was way out there at sea near San Clemente Island so I guess it is possible he is reading Coueswhitetail.com out there on his mobile device. The military and Verizon must have some cell phone towers on the Island.

Great job! Thanks for sharing.

Ya I have noticed the fishcounts being pretty brutal and a lack of audio reports lately. Crazy how all that fish can just exit so fast. Things should shape back up and start biting again soon.

I'd say they move around a lot more. Home range size for a mule deer is much larger than for a whitetail. Not sure if mulies really set up a territory per se. I think they just kind of roam, and will pick up and move in reaction to moisture like rainstorms which might green up one valley and another still be bone dry. They also migrate as mentioned with the Kaibab herd. Not many actually migrate much in AZ though. I don't believe elevation has much of an effect on an arrow, however the clothes you wear may have an effect on your draw length and or anchor point. Also want to be sure nothing will get in the way of your string. Good Luck!

Talk to Scott Vowell at Arizona Hunting Labs. He helped me find an awesome dog. I did not buy one of his pups but he helped me find another reputable breeder. I would check with him and see if he has dogs or can help.

Aztec seems pretty consistent in the counts from what I can see. That one is on my short list of ones to try that I have not yet.

If we are indeed talking about a a Charter we have to keep in mind it will take a $$$ Deposit (generally half the cost) to hold a date. Someone will have to swipe their card or collect funds in advance which is a huge risk and pain in the butt. A boat with enough spots on an open party trip reduces the risks. Something to consider. I would possibly be willing if there are enough people serious enough to come up with some money up front by the end of January or so. I've got it bad. Been analyzing the holes in my arsenal since my return. For sure going to get a Fathom 25 SDP for 30# and a 20# set up. Like an idiot I sold my 20# rig and a bunch of other gear in a moment of weakness.
