Nice man!

Not anymore. They gone!

Not sure if you have ever check out Marinetraffic.com but you can see where some of the boats are fishing. Some turn their AIS off and others won't have a name but you can tell by the color of the boat what kind of boat it is and there is generally a cluster of boats where the bite is. Seems like they are all kelp patty fishing off of Colonet and San Quintin.

Wild how the fish can just change in a weeks time or so. Almost no bluefin at all in the counts today. Nice change compared to the scratch fishing during the transition.

Most important ingredient of course is some raw tuna loin cubed in bite size chunks. You also need to get the killer sushi rice. Uncle Ben's ain't going to cut it (not racist). I think the stuff Amanda got was Nishiki. Also need some chili oil and maybe some siracha for the spicy part, maybe soy sauce if you like some salt. Carrots, green onion, sesame seeds, avocado, cucumber and whatever else you want in there. We did not have any seaweed flakes or masago or anything like that but I bet that is good in there. Spicy Tuna Recipe This is the only spicy tuna recipe you will ever need! Made with simple ingredients and easy to prepare! Serve it inside sushi or hand rolls, as an appetizer or as part of a sushi bowl! Prep Time15 mins Total Time15 mins Course: Appetizer, main, Snack, starter Cuisine: Asian Keyword: Healthy, spicy, sushi, tuna Servings: 4 Calories: 91kcal Author: Cheyanne Holzworth Ingredients Spicy Tuna: 8 oz Sashimi Grade Tuna – cut into 1/4 - 1/2'' cubes (it is easiest to dice tuna from a frozen state) 1 1/2 TBS Sriracha 1/2 tsp Chili Oil Sea Salt , to taste 1 1/2 tsp Masago (Capelin Roe)* 3 small Scallions – thinly sliced, white & green parts separated 1 tsp Sesame Seeds – preferably toasted (I used a combination of both Black & White sesame seeds) Spicy Mayonnaise 2 TBS Japanese Mayonnaise (preferably Kewpie brand) 2 tsp Sriracha , or more to taste For Optional Add-ins See Recipe Notes* Instructions Prepare spicy tuna sauce mixture: In a medium sized mixing bowl combine Sriracha, chili oil and a pinch of sea salt. Stir to combine well. Prepare the spicy tuna: Add the tuna, masago, white parts of the scallions and sesame seeds to the bowl. Gently mix together. OPTIONAL: Cover the bowl and place the spicy tuna in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to marry. Prepare the Spicy Mayonnaise: Combine the mayonnaise and sriracha in a small bowl. Whisk well to mix together. Taste and adjust for spiciness with more sriracha if desired.. Serve: Drizzle spicy mayonnaise over tuna mixture and enjoy! Notes Masago is a type of roe from the Capelin Fish. Small and orange in color, it is often used as a garnish for sushi. You should be able to find Masago in the sushi section of major grocery stores. Optional Add-in's for Sushi or Sushi Bowl: Shredded Carrots Sliced Avocado Crispy Nori Sheets Spring Mix Cooked Vermicelli Noodles Cooked Sushi Rice Edamame Beans Sliced Cucumber Imitation Crab Sticks Seaweed Salad Micro Greens Sprouts Chopped Fresh Herbs: Minto, Cilantro, Chives, Green onions Diced Fruit: Pineapple, Mango Dragonfruit

Nothing wrong with those Sqaull reels for lighter fish especially, and they are being phased out for Squall II so some great deals I'm sure.
-
Star drag reels generally have lighter spools and have better freespool which translates to better casting and better for fishing live bait. These reels also have the 3 screw takedown on the handle side which will make maintenance a breeze compared to a lever drag. Star drag reels typically have a spool tensioner than LD's don't. The 12 and 15 sizes in the Star Drag version also have magnetic braking for cast control. Good Question!
-
A couple of the Penn Fathom Lever Drag 2 speeds are on sale on Amazon at the moment. 15 and 30 sizes. Very tempting with the 30 but I got a bit better deal on my 40N, so I am going to hold out hope that it will drop a tad more, otherwise no biggy. Either way it is still a great deal on a reel that is one of the best reels you can buy for the money at regular price. The 30 would make a great 30-60# (maybe sweet spot 50#) offshore reel for bluefin and other large pelagics. The 15 is a sweet little reel but I think I would rather have the star drag in that size. Pretty sure the star might have more drag.

Sound like they need the advice of an attorney not the two bits from us yahoos! Awful nonetheless. I hope it all works out for them and the dogs are all ok in the end.

Condor hammered the dodos and yellows again today, as well as the Aztec. I am totally jelly, lol! Wish I was in on some of that!
-
Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I want to do something like this one day too.
-
I saw one that I assume was a brown that was like you are describing over 4th of July weekend up there. When I saw it I thought "carp" until I realized it WAS a trout!

I'm on a quest for dorado, white sea bass, and halibut. Been on that ocean a bunch of times and never caught any of those.

This is a good site to check out data trends on when certain species have a trend to bite good. You can sort by species and by the year. Not all the boats participate it looks like but you can also see which ones catch more than the others. Pretty cool. https://www.976-tuna.com/highliners

Constitution seems like a pretty nice boat! Might be a bit big but if they have room on an open party that might work too. I think they might be H&M's Top Boat.
-
That's a gem. I had a Spike Camp but moved up in size to a Late Season. That is a great pack for deer hunting! Plenty stout to take some meat out on the first go round plus all of your daypack gear.
-
In all seriousness though, would any of you guys get on the Pacifica with the history of the Captain? I don't think I trust those guys yet. They can fish though, that's for sure!
-
If you're going into that mess why not go all out...Accurates and United Composites my man!
-
Congrats on your bison!

That's what I was thinking but we should ask the Chartermaster, Kevin!

For selfish reasons I say mid to late September. I'm going to Alaska in July. Usually great fish counts with limits fishing on yft and skipjack typically with yellows and maybe dodos and bft mixed in September through mid October typically. Also usually easier to find room on a boat after the kids are back in school. Otherwise usualky pretty good fishing in July and August. To pick a prime date we will want to have a good idea of some boats and dates by January or so. Prime dates book early on good charter operations. With some boats there may not be many to pick from with repeat customers usually getting first dibs on charter dates.

Dang that sucks, there were others out there getting limits yesterday.
