Hey I think I know that guy! Pretty sure he's from my neck of the woods. Bert! One in a lifetime trophy right there! Freak Nasty is exactly my thoughts. Great job to all involved! Nick

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate turn of events. If you think you got in the vitals, stay after it, he's dead somewhere. If you're not so sure, like Blake said, those critters can live a long, long time on a marginal hit. Regardless of what happens in the end, keep your head up high. If you bowhunt long enough, something like this happens to everybody. It is clear that you have been putting in a tremendous effort on your hunt and recovery of the bull. There's no shame in that. I really do hope you find your bull! Best of luck, Nick

Hey Stan, Great report. Now finish the "honeydo's" and get back after it! I'm confident you can close the deal. Best of luck to you. Nick

You really need to buy a few different boxes of some different cartridges and try them at the range on a bench rest. I have a .270 win also, and tried quite a few "premium" rounds. It seems like the more expensive they are, the worse they shoot in my gun. After trying probably 5 different brands, the Remington Core-Lokt from Wal Mart, less than $20 a box shot better than any other I tried. We're talking 3 shot group less than 1.5" MOA at 200 yards. Good on you guys! That is a great pronghorn! Well worth the wait I am sure. I was very fortunate to have some great help before and during my hunt as well. Makes it that much sweeter when there is someone around to share in the good times! Nice work, Nick

Whatever diaphragm you are comfortable with and a Elknut Productions Chuckler or Mini Chuckler! I agree with the guys about the less is more concept with calling bulls unless you absolutely have to challenge the bull. If you're going to do that, you better be in close, like in with his cows close. In my experience in most cases they are going to clam up and move out when you sound like a big ole mean herd bull with the agressive bugles with the grunts and chuckles. Nick

Now there is a businessman that realizes that his reputation is worth a lot more than what he earned doing one mount! If only the dude that did the hackjob on the lion had such sense. Kudos to both gentlemen! Nick

Leupold custom shop and cds turrets! I just bought the same scope you have with the turrets stock. They can add them for a price (about 90 for the turret and 60 for the cap I think). That will get you out there quite a ways (700+) with a single revolution of the turret cap. Dead on hold, no guessing elevation. Nick

Good luck to all the bowhunters! 28 more days and I'll be out there with my first pronghorn tag! Nick

I just bought a new scope. It's a Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40 CDS. I would like to know how to determine ballistics for my rifle so I can get Leupold to make the most effective cap for my turret. My rifle is a browning a bolt .270 and has a 22" barrel. The factory load I like lists it's ballistics using a 24" barrel. Is there a way to determine my fps at the muzzle without using a chrono? Do you think the 2" inches of barrel makes a significant difference. I would guess that it does. Do you think Leupold has enough info as it is to figure out what I need, for example what are the chances they have already built a cap for a scope on the same rifle of the same caliber shooting the same load? Any thoughts along these lines would be great. I am really excited about the idea of being able to shoot out to 600 yards with a dead hold after a few clicks of the turret based on the known distance. I think that is a MUCH better option than using a plain scope like I had with a basic reticle, and for me probably better than using a ballistic reticle. Thanks in advance, Nick
