Lets see what the future looks like!
huntingfool replied to LYONKILL33's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Well that's a fine looking little hunter you got there Mike! May turn out to be a decent bird dog for awhile too! Anyway here's what I'm most proud of. She's in her camo jammies right now but she is sound asleep with momma. I may try for a secret-op in a few... -
Awesome pics thanks for sharing! It makes me want to get a trail cam...
-
Nice racks! Ah I need to get out again.

Hey guys I have around 300 40S&W cases and I'm in need of 9mm and 45acp mostly. However I may be persuaded to trade for other calibers like .243, 357, 45colt, or 44mag...

Nice! My dogs have had some close calls with pigs before too. They'll make short work of a dog.
-
That is awesome!

We were having trouble with boy names we could agree on, so it was probably good we had a girl. Anyway the names I like were: Colton James Colton Dale Virgil James Henry James Trenton James James, Virgil, and Dale are family names...anyway the wife was real picky about boy names. Good luck and congrats!!!

Nice finds! That muley is a whopper as well. -
Anybody ever heard of this? My brother-in-law said during the hunter safety class for his son the instructor said there are a few eastern whitetails in AZ. I have never seen or heard of anyone seeing any. One time out by Williams, I think off Devil Dog road (unit 10) a buddy and I hiked up to the top of a hill that was kind of all by itself. Near the top we spooked some whitetail deer, I figured they were coues deer but we really didn't get a good look. We just saw 3 tails dissappear over the hill. Mostly we were both really surprised to see whitetails out there. We both looked at each other and said "those were whitetails weren't they?" Anybody ever see coues deer out that way?

I found these two coues sheds last time out a couple weeks ago, after I layed down some salt. I hiked a lot for them but that is how it goes. The white one, which is bigger (you can't tell in the picture) I found right in the same area that my brother found that set. I must have walked by that antler several times in the last year. I really didn't expect to find an old antler in that area. The one on the right is this year's, he'll be a pretty good one this year. It was hiding in a bush, not totally touching the ground. Almost missed it . Hope I find him during deer season. The mule deer antler I found up by oracle while coyote hunting in like february. Figured I'd throw it in, for grins. He's a nice one. I can't believe you guys call them carp. Went out today, nothing hitting my salt yet. We'll see how that goes, I am new to the salt thing but I know it's in an area they frequent. Only saw one coues deer, jumped it out on my way back to the truck. That thing went a looooong way in like 3 minutes. I watched it book it thru the valley. It would have taken me half an hour just to get to where I lost sight of it. Also I saw some mule deer on the way in, one had some stumps. I think this will be his first year with horns though he was small bodied. Anyway I hiked my tail off today for one spooked whitetail, some "carp", a fox, and this old horseshoe. Oh and I found an unopened can of "ensalada atun con mayonesa" that an immigrant was thoughtful enough to toss carelessly about the desert landscape, along with a blanket, backpack, pair of shoes and numerous water bottles. Lucky! I considered feeding it to my dog but didn't want her to get botulism poisoning so I just tossed it. I guess it was a pretty good day, just not what I was after. Here is a pic of the horseshoe: Oh one more story. I saw a small fox today and was wondering if anyone could identify it for me. It was very small like a chihuaha but also very red. I don't think we have red fox this far south, plus it was way too small. And definetely not a gray fox. Kit fox maybe? Sorry for the long and semi-random post, figured I'd give you boys something to look at. It is still a long time until deer season.
-
Nah man, I've seen him before. We go way back. May have been a skinwalker though, don't know if they roam this far south though...Can't wait to get back out there, even if I don't see or find anything it beats the pants off a good day in the stinking city every time.

1140, 1144, 1137, 1138, 1139. Man I can't wait for deer season.

Are the Southern Units Really That Dangerous?
huntingfool replied to AZMThunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I'm fairly new to the southern AZ area, but have spent quite a bit of time hiking and glassing 36B in the last 2 years. I have yet to see an immigrant of any kind. I see their trash everywhere, old and new sign so I know they frequent the area. I like to bring a buddy but now that my brother moved away I find myself out there alone more and more. I have to say I feel pretty safe, but it is just one of those extra hazards you have to watch out for I guess. There must not be nearly the amount of traffic in my area since it sounds like most others have seen a number of illegals. -
I didn't notice the ears being big, and I got a good look at his face. I think I woke him up he seemed groggy. He was about 5 yards from me when I saw him in the brush. I lip squeeked at him and he stopped and I could just see his face. This happened a couple times before he ran thru a clearing at like 15 yards and I really noticed the red on him. When he was closer in the brush his face and neck looked light tan.

Ahh man, I totally did. But I fixed it now so maybe I still have a chance.

Eastern whitetails in AZ?
huntingfool replied to huntingfool's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Wow! I'm not quite sure what to make of that! We've been hunting in all the wrong places guys! -
Yeah I did that and I'm still not sure. I would still guess kit fox if I had to guess between the two, and basically I have to, but it didn't really look quite like the pics. Possibly a baby gray. It definetely had more red on it than any pics I could find for either species. I don't recall seeing any gray really, it was reddish tan on the sides and red on top. And pretty small. Maybe the light was wierd or something. I didn't notice a black tip on the tail either. I wish I would have paid more attention the more I think about it, it wasn't a big deal at the time. Maybe I'll try and call him in next time I'm up there and get a better look.

Eastern whitetails in AZ?
huntingfool replied to huntingfool's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Haha yeah I am having trouble swallowing it myself. Hence the post. But I figured this would be the best site to post on because the members here should actually be able to tell the difference between deer species. -
Awesome videos thanks for sharing!

Man, I have dreams of days like that! Still hasn't happened. Great job!

My brother found this matched set last year. Never can find these guys during the season though. More scouting is is order. These pictures make them look a little bigger than they are I think, but he was a nice one for sure. Anyway enjoy the pics. The one on top is part of the set and on the bottom is the one I posted the other day. In this photo mine looks bigger but it isn't, they are very similar. If anything the one on top is bigger by a little.
