J I drew the fort bayrd hunt hmmm....4 years ago and there were plenty of bulls the thing was right before my hunt some idiot poached seven elk, one was about a 340 we had scouted out. After that all the bulls we saw had messed up horns from the bad genetics. Every year after that they have been wiping them out. An archery deer hunt would be sweet!

Just be thankful it is NOT Fort Bayard, It's really really really down. The game warden in the area came to my ag class and said there is only one herd bull in the whole thing! He did also say they might change it from an elk hunt to a deer hunt! There are some huge deer in that bad boy though . Congratulations Scott!

I reckon I will start shooting when I find out if I drew in NM on Wednesday. I need to make some adjustments on it. My Cobra sight is a little funky too, everytime i shoot the stupid thing moves a tiny bit! I can tighten it up as hard as I can and it still does it! But I guess that's what makes bows great, getting to customize and tinker with them.

They have to find the big mature bucks first guys! I think ultimately 3 point restriction will have a positive outcome, most of the hunters won't get out their trucks to go find the big ones, which means eventually there will be more deer. Because it is true that the bigger ones are harder to get and I think everyone on this site will agree. The negative side I see is that the success rates may go down for a few years. Uhhh but I'm just some guy , not a biologist or anything like that hee hee heeee.......

No way do mulies deserve to be called carp! The idea that coues are smarter may and may not be true, for example, I was hunting today(Coues) in NM and I jumped a 6 point buck on my way to a bigger one, he ran about 50 yards. I blew on my grunt tube and he came back in at 15 yards! Here's my theory-many others might think this- Coues Deer can disappear because of their small bodies and light gray camo. Mule Deer can't. I've had many a big mule deer get away from me, and probably about the same coues deer, so here what I have to say- deer are deer I love to hunt them, no matter if I draw the coues or mule deer tag, so if I kill a big mule deer I won't think Awe MAN!, only a mule deer!

Hey I was just wondering if anyone that possibly drew the unit 27 hunt was on here and if you are, how did you do. The reason I'm asking is because my older brother has a bowhunt in January.(He drew it for his 2nd choice!!!)

Man what a deer! I don't think I would care about the score at that point...but...I think he'll score aound 118 or 119, because he's so incredibly massive and long. I would be ecstatic just to see one of that caliber! My brother has a NM unit 27 Coues hunt in Jan w/ a bow and we've heard of one down there that would stretch the tape out over 110". Congratulations for your daughters on even drawing the hunt. Good Luck and I hope you get the Monster!

I'm a non-resident archery hunter. The price increase for me is ok because I get to hunt for three months, the rifle hunts, however, are only days! Where does all of this money go? The deer #'s seem to be decreasing! They are making it harder and harder for the average citizen to hunt these days! I know that permit fees are small compared to the rest of the hunt, but now that extra money on the fee is put on top of gas and food and gear! I'm 16 and I have a feeling that someday when I have kids it will either be too expensive to hunt, or there won't be enough game.

Hey I know this sounds stupid, but I do not understand the AZGFD's proclamation about bowhunting. It saya the season runs from 12/16-1/31/06. But I thought Jan. was a new license year. When does it start and end? I would also like to know how much the youth archery tag and license costs because on the website it just has a slash through the license cost. I know there is probably an easier way to do this, and that I probably just read it wrong, but I know you guys know your stuff. Thank You!

Just thought it would be cool to know who got one, and be able to show them off. Please say what kind and how big. As for me I saw a HUGE mule deer 27 inches wide, but incredibly tall. He was in a little dip on top of a big mountain, I just happened to be glassing it and saw huim right when he bedded down. We got up to where we thought we would be able to see him, but theres was no good angle that you could get a shot at him. We also flushed some quail on the way. He got away and we didn't see a decent buck the rest of the time. But how could you when it's 70 degrees at 9:00 in the morning!?!?!?!?!!

I got a 24 muley tag, but my bro got a jan. 1-15 coues Archery tag in unit 27 on his second choice!

Hey everyone, I know this has nothing to do with coues deer, but I was wondering what hunts you put in for in both AZ and NM, what guns you're going to use etc. This buck is one I got 2 years ago in unit 13 in NM. I used my Savage 25-06 at 180 yards.

Mine is definitely the .300 Win. Mag people think it blows huge holes in the cape but it really doesn't that bad, plus it is the most flat shooting gun I have ever used, and my grandfather has a collection of over 250 rifles.
