ok here's my plan for my arrow set-up----gold tip pro hunters, neon orange bohning blazer vanes, yellow eze crest wrap, 100 grain g5 montecs, and bohning signature nocks in apricot. I've been wanting to try wraps for a while so we'll see how that works out. Oh and my brother is going scouting in 27 over here in nm for our january coues hunt this weekend, hope he finds the monster.....

Predator is my favorite...but a rifle hunt it really doesn't matter I wore an American Eagle green hoodie on my last successful rifle hunt for coues. I also have the cabelas outfitter you disappear in that stuff, but yes it is hot.

Well I'm leaving Tuesday for my elk hunt. We scouted the last two weekends and found fresh sign, particularly a lot of rubs, but no elk sightings or bugles heard yet. I'll keep you guys updated, they should heat up this week with a storm that's going to hit monday and tuesday, maybe it won't be ninety degrees! hahaha! Wish me luck on my first bow elk hunt!

No dice...not even a bugle tonight strange....but man I still loved it can't wait for next year!(draw gods willing )

Man I know that feeling.....isn't it great?

Just got back! It was one of those "how close can you get?" hunts. I was drawn on a bull that I'm guessing is around 330-340AT THE LEAST , but he would not step out from behind the tree! He finally just took his cows and left. THe next two days were rough cuz they weren't bugling at all, but yesterday and today they were back again. I had a 3x3 at thirty yards yesterday evening but just couldn't make myself shoot so I passed him up. This morning we heard a toad of a bull but never saw him even though he was about 60-80 yards out. Just couldn't make it happen, but that's how it goes. We're makin one last charge on Monday so we will see what happens. Pray for me. hahaha!

Interesting thing happened the other day.... I was out shooting my XT the other day and it went nuts on me. I have been shooting since the NM draw (couple weeks) and it was shooting just like it was in January when I got my deer. Then I went out one morning at forty yards and it shot off the target a foot to the left and high, I thought it was just me since I'm DEFINITELY not the best shot but it did it four more times. I checked all my sights and the knock level and the peep and it hadn't moved at all! I adjusted it and it has shot well since then. Since I'm pretty darn new to archery I'm wondering if this has happened to anybody, and will it continue to do it? I'm just worried I'll have that big bull at forty yards and my bow will whack out on me! (Pretty good excuse though HAHAHA!) Please post your comments on this wierd happening

How many times do you see this??

Nice! I'll be gone for about three or four weeks I'll check that out when I get back. Much Thanks!

It was shooting high and left right? So I moved it as if I was sighting it in and it was shooting that way. It now shoots fine with the sight adjustments that I made. Savvy?

Shooters Edge makes a great string for a good price. Winners Choice makes a better string but you will pay more. Just my opinion. But you can not really go wrong with ether one. As said above do not just change the string also change the cables. I know there should be a shop around Silver City that sells Shooters Edge String. I know a lot of guys in NM that shoot for Ray at Shooters Edge. I will get you his number and send it to you if you would like. He can tell you what shops there sell them or he may just send them to you. If Sportsman's Warehouse is only going to spend 10 min. on your bow to put strings on I would find someone else to work on your bow. They may be good but ten min. seems kinda fast to to me I would rather they take there time and do it right the first time. Bownut, That would be great if I could get that number you can post it here or pm me, whatever you prefer. Thanks for your advice it means a lot!!!

Ya I'm thinkin about those winners choice strings...how do they compare to shooters edge?
-
Not as much as 24 & 23--B is probably your best bet again.
-
B is kind of a unique terrain from junipers to pine to solid rock. There are probably more in the pines but visibility is pretty low. Big bucks can be taken anywhere if you can find him early and pattern him. Desert is my personal favorite terrain to hunt, with junipers, oaks, and rocky bluffs. Just find a place that looks like it has deer and scout it, if they aren't there move to another likely spot. Oh is your hunt with a rifle or bow? That throws some different factors in there also.
-
That is scary dude, good thing that branch snapped. Glad you made it back safely.
-
Yes I did just call Sportsmans warehouse down in Las Cruces and they said they will install Winners Choice for free on my bow and they'll cost like $32.oo and it should take about ten minutes. When they do that will they put my peep and everything back on how it was?
-
B is pretty productive but crowded. Backpack in or ride.
-
Oh no...not the old "Mathews Vs. Everyone Else" fight!!!! AAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
-
http://www.bowstringmaterial.com/servlet/StoreFront Is this the correct site?
-
Hahaha I do dig my Mathews, only problem I have had with it, but lets not get into that Haha! I will probably be taking my bow to get strings soon, as it sounds important! Tuscon is mighty far for me to go though, so I'll call my local shop and see what the deal is. Oh and I have been practicing with broadheads, that seems to be the only way to go as when I switched from field tips to broadheads last years I had to make quite a few adjustments Keep the info coming! I'm really eager to learn more about bows! THANKS!
-
Wow what a hunt to draw dude! There are plenty of Mulies in there trust me They are a heck of a lot easier to find than the coues and there are some monsters! They are pretty well distributed but to find THE one you'll need to scout it either in person or have a friend do it. You should check out the other topic in this forum "gila wilderness hunting" and there's a lot more guys here that know more than me that will point you in the right direction for sure Congrats on the tag and GOOD LUCK on your hunt.
-
Well I just got done shooting, it's still shooting fine with the adjustments I made. Everything appears to be lined up fine on it too. I do need to get some new strings but I don't know if I should wait until after my elk hunt...decisions decisions
