this year was going to be a little bit of a problem as my son had surgery on his toe 3 days ago, and was on crutches.... cruthces and lots of hiking in the steep hills dont work very well HOWEVER>>>>> opening morning, 7:30, i shot the biggest pig i have ever gotten, that thing was huge!! my son missed while they were running over a dike, went to second spot found some couldnt get him on them, went to third spot about 2:30 or so in the after noon glassed up 5 more, got him over to the top of the ridge crouches and all and he made a 150 yard shot in about 25 miles an hour wind and got his. was a blast, thought i'de share with ya. left home at 2:30 am drove 3 hours, hunted all day and just got home 9:00 pm...

after several years of applying finally drew a wyoming goat tag. with the last 4-5 years of severe droupt the horn growth was pretty poor, even though we saw 1000's of antelope and hundred of bucks we couldnt find anything very big. finally ended up taking this guy, and felt very furtunate to get him. also pictured the other two bucks we took.

i've been 3 times and taken nice goats each time, i put in the draw each year and i do NOT pay the extra money, but i am only drawing about every 4th or 5th year becasue of that... so in about 15 years of apllying i have drawn 3 times, including last year. it is not a question of if you will get a goat. you WILL get one. we see several THOUSAND goats each day, on the place we hunt, lt is just a great time to take a couple friends and make a neat several day hunt of it.

i was out in my shop yesterday afternoon working on some bear and deer when my brother and my sister in law pulled up to drop of there kids so my wife could watch them while my brother took his wife out for an evening hunt. They have been out for about a week now with not much success, my sister in law is around 6 months pregnant and hasnt been able to hike the hills like she would of liked as you can imagine. Anyway they came out into the shop and asked if i new of anyplaces were we might could glass from with out to much of a hike from the truck, and i said yea i think so there is a finger ridge that juttes out over a canyon with lots of creases in it to glass from and be able to shoot across, that would be just a 100 yard hike out to the edge then we can sit and glass and if she shoots one across there you can go and get it... "here let me draw you a map"..... "on second thought i'll go show ya " :) so i dropped everything grabbed my stuff and off we went..... the night was going to be great when we got pulled over just as we were gassing up and were let off with a warning to slow down... who gets let off with a warning i never do..... anyway luck was on our side, as we made it to the spot i wanted to go we spotted a bacholor group of 6 bucks, 2- 4x4's a 3x3, 2-2x2's and a big spike.... ( she didnt care what she shot as the hunt was drawing to a close and she wanted to fill the freezer) BUT since there happen to be 2 big bucks with them :) ... any way she got set up for the shot and let one fly, one of the big 4x4s jumped and kicked straight out the back, indicating a solid hit, Down the canyon they went with the big buck having a hard time keeping up... starting up the other side.... watch him, dont loose him.... he has stoped.... cant shoot all the other deer pile around him..... watch him.... he is staggering.... DOWN HE GOES!! watch and make sure.... i dont see any movement... ok go over to him and make sure, we will stay here and guide you to him.... so down my brother goes and as we keep an eye on him from about 450 yards away, i dont see anymovement lindsay you have just killed a very nice BIG 4x4, congrats!!! she is exstatic as me and my brother are as well..... Now the fun part either back across this canyon or up the side he is on.... Wait Shawn there is a road in the bottom if i take the truck all the way out and around i'm pretty sure i can get a lot closer and it will be down hill, so off lindsay and i go to find our way around, 35 minutes latter i am parked 250 yards straight below the buck. We head up get pictures, do the dirty work and drag him straight down hill to the truck. Everyone is on cloud 9 and what a pretty buck. his forks arent realy deep, but they are heavy all the way up, and he is 25 inches wide. a great deer in anyones book!

my buddy torn his rotary cuff and can no longer draw his bow back, and wont be able to by the jan archery hunt. and would like to get a left over ham or rifle tag, what ever we can find after the draw comes out and the left over list is posted.... but would really like to not have to buy the archery tag, so how can he get his appilcation rejected? we thought we could just go in and "change credit card" info to a bogus number so that it would reject the application and NOT draw him the archery tag.... BUT when you go in to change the CC info and if you have an invalide number then it wont let you proceed until there is a valid # in there so that didnt work... any one else ever try to PURPOSILY get rejected??? thanks
-
is ther a way purposily get an application rejected?
tomgobbler replied to tomgobbler's topic in Javelina
because my friend is from out of state and his wife was on the same application, so they want to change weeks to come see me and to hunt.... so that is $210.00 plus another $210.00 for the second tags... -

after a NASTY night of wind / rain / sleet / and who knows what else we got up a litle late as it was pouring rain..... kind of draggin our feet as i was hopeing the rain would stop and it would get a little lighter as the clouds had the sun blocked and it wasnt getting light very fast. anyway we headed out to our spot the usally always had deer, wondering if it would be a great morning beacuse they had held up all night, or a terrible morning becasue they would still be brushed up....... we got to were we wanted to go and were hunitn along and at 6:40 opening morning we ran into 3 bucks together, i told him to take which ever one presented a good broad side shot and let'r'have it just as we had been practicing. i had hand loaded his 243 with barnes triple shock bullets. needless to say this buck stood still to long at about 65 yards and trace put the hammer down. the buck went about 30 yards and piled up, i asked were he had been aiming and he said right were you showed me too, and i said ok lets go take a look.... well when we got it gutted out we realised he had blown the heart right in two!!!! in the picture you can see the apex of the heart, and the base fo the heart and that is how they came out of the chest, two complete pieces..... a nice 4x4 for his very first buck! ( way bigger then my first buck) with DARK, dark antlers from rubbing on burnt pines.... or other burnt brush, from the wallow fire.... one happy kid, ( i cant get the grin off his face ) and and even happier dad. what a way to end what started out as a nasty hunt ( at least weather wise )
-
thanks guys! it was one incredible day! still ahvent gotten the smile off of his face yea its that gray, and yea pretty cool markings on his forehead... the antlers are really cool as black as they are from rubbing in the burn...
-

anyone not get a tag to fill the freezer with, or want to fill it with beef for the winter, i've got 4 head that i am graining right now, will sale in 1/2's or whole's.... i'll take it the local butcher here in town with YOUR cut specs, and it will be cut and wrapped how you want it. final price will depend on how big the animal was when it was butchered. these will range in the 700-800 lb range, nice and young, and nice and fat.... store baught does'nt even compare to fresh beef.... half a steer will run in the $800-$900 range, give-r-take a few.... drop me aline if you have questions. thanks tommy
