Awesome dark antlered buck! Congrats.

Congrats to the Denham family. Thank you to Mark and all our service men and women. At this time of the year, I hope we all say a prayer for the safe keeping of our service men and women over the holidays wherever they are., Lee

I would be good with that. My last archery early bull draw was 4 years ago. Which puts me at 6 BPs with education and loyalty points.

19 BP,s might get you a good antelope tag. Put in for what you want, dont settle. As far as 6BP for archery elk, good luck with that... Ron Yeah Ron, I am only putting in for premium antelope hunts that I think I can really spend a lot of time scouting. The archery elk draw with 6 BPs is really a crap shoot, but somebody's got to draw. Good luck to you in the draws. Lee 6 bps should get you a tag as long as your not puting in for 9,10,3a 3c, 1, or 27. WTH, were you looking over my shoulder? I am considering some of those units but I am also only going to apply for early archery bull. That makes it a crap shoot. I could easily get drawn for a late season archery bull with 6 BPs I think but that's not the hunt I want. Lee

No, I am not looking for a J104 any longer. I am pretty happy with the Horn Hunter Full Curl system. I have been so busy since my hunt I haven't had time to write my review of the Full Curl and the Bino Hub from Horn Hunter (and load photos) but I will say that overall I am pleased with both purchases and I plan to use both regularly now. As a side note, TOBY, I did not tag out. Only saw two branch antlered bucks, each for a couple of seconds at 600 plus yards. Never even fired a shot. My buddy got a 2X3 on second to last day and together we passed on about 30 spikes over the duration of the hunt. Lee

I don't think I would use my bonus points up on that draw. I would get an over the counter elk tag, which doesn't affect your bonus points, if you just want to hunt elk if you don't get drawn for a primo elk hunt. Just my 2 cents. Lee

Pretty pumped about the elk regs (6 BPs) and hope to get one of my archery bull draws for sure but I am really super-pumped about the antelope regs!!! I finally feel like I have a fighting chance at one these antelope tags with 19 BPs. I will be pouring over the elk and antelope stats every spare moment I have until I submit my apps. Decisions, decisions.... Lee

Thanks Ben, I understood the WM I spoke with to be warning me that it could be interpreted as road-hunting but they also gave me the impression all along that it would require much more evidence than an uncased rifle in the vehicle. They were not beligerent only warning and I knew I was not road hunting so I knew it was not going to be a problem but I like to have a better understanding of what other evidence would need be present for a WM to start to consider a citation and I think you covered that well. Thanks again for the input. Lee

I was warned on this one this season. WM said that carrying the rifle in the passenger area of the UTV unloaded and uncased COULD be considered road hunting. I explained all I had in camp was a double rifle hard case and I wasn't going to leave one rifle in a hard case when we got to our hunting area and that we were driving to a hunting area where would exit the vehicle, load up and go hunt. The WM said it could still be considered road-hunting if the WM interpreted our actions as actively pursuing game from the vehicle with an uncased rifle. I got clever and placed the rifle in a Coleman folding-chair bag. Never got stopped again to ask about the legality of this. As a side note, the chair bag did keep the dust off the rifle pretty well though. Lee

Skunked on unit 1 turkey again. Got my archery javelina draw for multiple units in Jan. This hunt includes Alamo Lake area so I am thinking I will purchase an OTC elk tag and archery deer tag and have a mixed bag desert winter hunt.
-
That usually means they are actively loading the results. Maybe by this afternoon the results will be available.

I actually love to scout while a hunt is going on. Mainly because it gives me clues to how the game reacts to pressure in the area. I do try not to impose on a hunter if I know there is one in the area. I just sit up high and glass if possible.

Hey Shylopolito, Are the times correct on those photos? If so, those guys are out partying late, or they are very early risers. Good spot. Lee

TOBY, My hunt starts 11/25/11 and will be my first time to put the full curl to the test. As a side note, I did not purchase the larger bag for the pack yet. I did buy the "meat sack" which was an off-white canvas bag with the clips and everything to mount it directly to the packframe. I had my wife dye the sack brown so it didn't stand out like a sore thumb and it came out great. I don't intend to bivy hunt this hunt so I think this set up will work well. For future hunts I intend to purchase the large bag for bivy hunts. I will post some photos and do a review in December when I return from hunt. Lee p.s. I also will review the Horn Hunter Bino Hub that i bought for this season and include some photos of it too.
-
Congrats. Glad to hear it. Seeing more and more people getting back to work and I almost get hopeful.
-
Coach, Will do. I also intend to do a review of the Horn Hunter Full Curl System backpack I picked up at Cabela's Bargain Cave. My next hunt is CWT late November, so hopefully have put both through their trials by early December. Lee

Just bought the Horn Hunter Bino Hub, haven't even gotten out in the field yet but my Leica 10+15 X 50's fit nicely in it. I like the quality of construction, the ease of use, etc. It even has a means to mount your rangefinder onto the outside of the case. Here's a link to video review. http://youtu.be/Uhp4tFREY2k

How many rounds of ammo do you carry?
couesdiehard replied to SunDevil's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Six or seven bandoliers full for the morning hunt, then back to camp to reload and out to the field for the evening! -
Happy Birthday Marines and thanks for your service! Thanks to all the Service Men and Women past and current. Will be thinking about you all in honor of Veteran's Day. Lee

I think P & Y as well as B & C use net scores because it gives more credit to symmetrical examples of the species. Even the non-typicals are judged on net scores to give credit to the "best examples" of the species. So in their eyes its not just about the most total inches. SCI is a lot more about total inches and you can always go that route. I like both ways of looking at and honoring the animal. I like having the option of entering an animal in whichever book I think will honor that paricular animal the most. Just my 2 cents. Lee

ratherbehunting, I believe the actual reason they can't charge your cc before the draw are anti gambling laws which don't allow charges on cards for gambling/lotteries. Once your drawn they can charge you for the tag itself. I don't think the USO fiasco was the whole cause of the stoppage of the electronic application process here though. As I recall it more to do with the IT firm that was processing the drawing and the enormous amount of errors they made. I'm getting pretty old though, and the memory doesn't work as well as it used to.

Next he will be armed and stalking you! That guy might have just returned from tour in afghanistan.

The definition of crazy is to keep repeating the same action expecting a different result. Sorry cards fans you might just be a little crazy.

The top two best hunting glass makers are Leica & Swarovski. Zeiss makes great glass but nothing for this type off hunting. There are several second tier makers also whose top models are near the quality of Leica & Swarovski. Minox and Vortex come to mind. There ayer numerous posts in this forum on this subject optics. Some of the best glassers in the country hang out on this forum so read up on what they recommend. They have tried just about everything. Lee
