That's crazy my buddy and I were just talking about Cabela's binos yesterday! Let me start by saying I own Leica's and my bud owns Swaro's, so we have both bought long range glass for life. We both also own at least one pair of Cabela's. He has had his Swaro's for 20 years but he has bought 2 lesser power Cabelas binos over the years including a pair of 10X42 XT's that he just bought for his son. I could not afford top end glass when I caught the Coues hunting bug so I bought a pair of Cabela's 10X42's probably 15 years ago to get me in the game. We have not spent more than $300 on any of these Cabela's binos. The conversation we were having yesterday was about how impressed we were with the quality per dollar of the Cabela's binos. I absolutely agree that you should buy the top end glass but the Cabela's binos have their place and you won't necessarily want to get rid of them once you get top end binos. Besides they are great for use by youngsters, spouses, friends, etc. who are learning to glass effectively. I say get in the game with the best you can afford and ultimately get top end glass, but don't use junk glass or glass you are unhappy with until you buy top end glass. So there's my 2 cents if you want it. Lee

you can send me a paypal payment for 77.50 and 114. OK, start checking your account for the payments every 5 minutes!

This sucks! Even though I know we got one elk tag charge on my card last week I thought we would be done with the charges by now, but now I have my hopes up again. I am trying to figure out what I can charge on my card that would be exactly $77.50 or $114.00 just so I can get excited for a second when I get a notification of a pending charge from the cc company on my smart phone. Could someone please provide a link or copy of this proposal? I would really like to review it but BPJ's posting won't work for me. Thanks in advannce. Lee -
We got engaged on an elk hunt, 40 yards from a dead cow elk my brother had just killed.... She knows where hunting ranks. Casey, You are a lucky man. I had THE conversation with my wife when we were still dating. Explained to her that I would be going hunting often and she needed to accept that. Luckily or unluckily she decided she wasn't going to let me have all the fun and now she also loves hunting big game. Some of our best times together have been on those hunts. Good luck this year on all your hunts. Lee

seek, I agree with you on this one. There aren't nearly enough shows about AZ style hunting on public lands. When I see one that's close I record it. I think Sportsman's Channel or Outdoor Channel are about the same. Too many shows about bumpkins hunting eastern whitetails and turkeys over feeders or foodplots, YAWN. Here's another side to consider though, if they made more shows about our type of hunting every bozo with a gun or a bow might want to do it. That could make our precious tags even harder to come by! I SIT HERE CORRECTED!!!!!!!!!!!! My apologies to everyone on this part of my complaint. I still don't get their reasoning behind the closure. It's all good Elkhunter1, I have misread the recommendations/guidelines/regs more times then I can count. I have a special interest in this particular hunt and area that's why I was already deciphering it when you brought up the potential issue. At least you brought it up, so that we could investigate it. I also don't agree with the logic of basing hunt permit numbers on inconclusive surveys. Lee

Wrapping the livers in a piece of nylon webbing or piece of nylon stockings then running a hook through the whole mess, keeps the livers on the hook pretty well. Lee

I say nice try Cade, but since Jay Lopeman is your partner in Triclawps, LLC it's a little too late to try to separate the business you run with him, from the stupid comments he makes representing himself as a member of your firm. A new candidate for "Dumbest Idea in Arizona" IMHO. Lee

Scary! Just another reason I don't ever let anyone put in the draws for me. Likewise I don't put in for anyone else except the wife and kids. If I screw something up, I can only be upset with myself. I have had someone screw me out of a tag out of stupidity before. This way all I have to worry about is my own stupidity. Me and my buddies just put in separately with matching hunt numbers in the same order . If G&F has issues hopefully they won't get us all and we will still go hunt. Lee

Got this via email and thought to share it here...

+1 OK you lost me on this. Who was President on April 20, 1999? Like the current President or not how do you blame this one on him? -
Wondering who has tried the online draw since G&F shut it down this past weekend? Did you have any problems or did it work smoothly? I'm thinking tonight might be the night I get to apply online so I was curious if they got the bugs out. Thx in advance. Lee

Federal Judge dismisses lawsuit against Rosemont Copper
couesdiehard replied to AZLance's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I have said it before in other threads on this issue. I have a lot of family that work for copper mines in AZ and I love the wild places in this state that are disappearing at an alarming rate. So I am torn. Let's not kid ourselves, if you choose to support the Rosemont Mine you are choosing jobs and U.S resource independence over protecting a wild place that belonged to all the people of this country (National Forest) I don't know which is the right call in this scenario but I know all I have to do is climb on top of some of my favorite mountains in the world (the Santa Ritas)look west across the I-19 at Duval and know that is the cost of opening more copper pit mines in AZ. It's just a fact, you cannot return the mountain to what it was ever after you open pit mine. Lee -
Most of us have learned the hard way. There are boots and then they are Coues Country Boots. Two entirely different animals. Good luck with your boot choice.

gotcoues, He referred to it several times as Caul Fat. Caul Fat - an industry term for fat that is deposited across the peritoneum which surrounds the stomach and abdominal visceral organs. This fat looks like lace. I looked it up. What a nerd, huh? Lee

Economic impact of mining on forum members
couesdiehard replied to Pine Donkey's topic in The Campfire
A good deal of my wife's family is employed by Freeport in the Clifton, Morenci, Safford area so this issue hits close to home. I am torn on this issue all the time. I believe we as a country need to be as independent as possible of other nations natural resources. This country is blessed with so many resources. On the flip side as a lover of the outdoors I hate to see the irrepairable damage done by mining. As someone who has fallen in love with the Santa Ritas over the last 6-7 years I don't want to see those mountains turned into a scar but I do want us to utilize what God gave us. I wish we could remove copper from the ground without ever digging. Lee -
nohoch, Tough decision. Don't envy you. The way I see it the final deciding factor is this...which state is easier to get home to Arizona from so you can hunt Coues every year! Good luck with whatever you decide. Lee

Ok I broke my old packframe finally (hated that thing) and I have been comparison shopping hunting backpacks. I am looking for something to use as a daypack and meat-hauler with the ability to be used as 3-5 day hunt backpack being a bonus. As I am vertically challenged (5'7") size of the pack is important. After inspecting and trying numerous packs on, I have narrowed my choices down to the Eberlestock J34 and the Horn Hunter Full Curl System. Problem I have is that there is a ton of info on the Eberlestock out there but very little reliable reviews of the Full Curl yet. Seen a video and read one pretty detailed review about it but the rest I've seen I wouldn't put much faith in. My question (finally) is this. Has anyone on the forum put a Full Curl System through its paces yet? I put a lot more faith in the opinions of the hunters on this site than most places so I am really interested in your input. Thanks in advance. Lee
