Coues episode on Outdoor Channel
couesdiehard replied to WAcoueshunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
WAcoueshunter; What show is it on? couesdiehard -
Muskrat; heck I would wear it everyday like aftershave. That would drive the ladies crazy. Come to think of it, I would probably have to live with the deer anyway cause the wife wouldn't let me back in the house smellin' that good! Lee

I feel that this is definitely a step in the right direction. I still believe idiots like the folks at USO (who would rather exploit our resources than help preserve and enjoy them) will try to find another way to make more money by trying to twist the law in their favor. I am a little concerned that our Senators are not at least co-sponsors of this bill. I hope our guys in the House step up a little better than our Senators. To heck with USO Lee

Well guys I have spent the better part of this weekend doing my income tax returns and I am cross-eyed now! Most of you would probably feel that is justice for a government employee, but I hate tax time as much as anybody. Anyway while I was waiting for the copies to print I thought, "Now that's out of the way. There must be something more fun than this coming down the pike." I realized that the Fall regs will be available online in 3 weeks! With so many changes in the works and so many hunts to plot I am excited. I scan over odds and check calendars and try like heck to get me, my wife and son drawn for as many hunts as I can afford. For me hunting season starts in May. Let me be the first to say, "Good luck in the draws to all CWT members and a plague on Larry Montoya & US Outfitters." Lee

Guys; Isn't Casper in Wyoming? A.R.S. stands for Arizona Revised Statutes, right? I don't think our Statutes are generally applied in Wyoming. What excuse would their lawmakers have for taking tax money if they just used our Az laws? The law of common sense should tell you not to put a trap next to a stock tank but you know what they say about common sense. "There's nothing so uncommon as common sense!" couesdiehard -

What the heck! Lately, every time somebody says they have pictures in their post, I can't see them. Every buddy else's post indicate that they see them. Are you guys messing with me? Lee -
I'd like to see the kill numbers for these 3 species before I get to worked up. I saw more deer last season than I have in the last 5 and I see no lack of elk. The antelope tags really baffle me!

So. AZ forest may be closed!
couesdiehard replied to AZLance's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Lance; Where and when was this article in the paper? I though you might be referring to the article in the Az. Republic on 3/25/05 about Border Patrol and immigrants trashing public lands but it doesn't seem to mention Keith Graves or the Coronado National Forest. I would really like to read the article you are referencing. Let us know. Thanks Lance Lee -
Scott; Happy Birthday! Here's wishing you and yours good health and good hunting in the coming year. couesdiehard

God Bless you and yours. May God keep you and heal you and guide the surgeon's hands. couesdiehard (Lee) -
Redman; I am no expert but I shopped a long time before buying my current bow. I checked all the ultra-fast, ultra-short, ultra-quiet bows that had come out at the time. But I have to say I have not been disappointed in the Parker bow I bought nor have any of the two other people I know who have bought them. They are quiet, close to 300 fps, and fairly light. Most of all they are reliable! In the price range you are considering you can get a package that comes with quiver, arrows, sight, rest, and release, tuned and sighted in for 20 yards when you pick it up. The thing that has amazed me about mine is that I have never had to retune it in two seasons. Every time I pull it out to shoot it shoots exactly where it did when I shot it last. They aren't the hot-rods of the archery world but I love the way they are put together. couesdiehard

Hey azyoung; I never mentioned a unit# or location. I didn't even notice you had stated a unit because I was told you guys hunted 42M! You mean to tell me that may not have been accurate? Which buddy is mad at us anyway? I saw coyoung's picture has been posted and I noted a unit # indicated so I guess it wasn't him. I am taking my son to 36A this weekend for his javelina hunt. I'll let you know how it goes. Lee

azyoung; I have seen a photo of your buck and brother there ain't nothing wrong with him. I think maybe you have gotten a little spoiled. You always seem to take one of the biggest bucks in our hunting camp! Considering the fact that you guys were new to the unit, you had no idea what kind of bucks you would see during the rest of the hunt. Post that bad boy's picture and be proud. I've met some guys that have hunted these deer for years without ever tagging one. You might remember I went through a 5 year drought myself. By the way how's your brother doing? Ed told me they had some trouble on the road heading back to Co. Lee

Who else is getting ready to do some archery pig and deer hunting and where? I got drawn for archery javelina in 36 A,B,C so I am taking an archery deer tag too. I have been checking out the forum pretty regular and all the successes I am seeing from the Dec rifle and archery hunts has me dying to get back down south. sczoner have you guys gone down to your archery hunt area yet? couesdiehard

gnoto; Where were you in 36A. Sunday I was in 36A off the Batamote Rd. I saw a couple of camps set up. One had a plate sign and the other had at least a dozen coyote pelts hanging. Were you one of these camps? I was in the white Suburban. I saw a herd of about 20 pigs running like all get out and one coues doe. No shots. Spent Sunday evening and all day Mon. in 36B. Only saw 2 coues forkies and a dozen or so does. The forkies were both chasing single does but never saw any big boys and never got a shot. Never saw pigs in B either. Lee -
tthrasher; How was your hunt? Did you have any luck? I am heading down there in the morning. Let you know what I see. couesdiehard

sczoner; You are probably already gone but Good Luck to you and the rest of the crew! Let us know how it went. firstcoueswas80, at least you've been out and seeing some action. I haven't been out since New Year's weekend. I have made numerous stalks on Coues and Mulies, always without a spotter. They have always given me the slip or busted me. There are just so many more things that can go wrong when you have to get within 50 yards. But I wouldn't trade it for anything. I am heading down to 36 in the morning. I'll let you know how it goes. Some cool bear pics
couesdiehard replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
You know I've heard of these herds of bears before. Usually from someone with limited time in Az. backcountry. Invariably they turned out to be a herd of javelina at a distance rooting around. I'm not sure how folks can confuse javelina with bear but it happens. couesdiehard -
Hey Amanda; Hope you had a great holiday season. As usual on my way to the forum I looked at the new postings on the home page. I clicked on the new story by Jack Luffy and I'll be darned if I could find it. Could you offer a hint? Thanks and congrats on the 2nd birthday of your baby (the best dang hunting web-site I know!) couesdiehard

Thanks Amanda. couesdiehard

Well it's time to show some support for the Forest Service. I don't always agree with FS practices but they are far better at protecting the forest for all to enjoy than these whack jobs! couesdiehard

firstcoueswas80, I got pretty well skunked yesterday. A couple of does with fawns on the east side of 36B. Drove down on 1 1/2 hours sleep, felt sick all day and finally called it quits at 3:00 pm. Hoping to get back out next weekend or for sure the following weekend. Where were you guys hunting? couesdiehard
-
tthrasher, Have you been out to 36B hunting yet? How did it go? See any rut activity? I was on the east side of the unit 5-6 miles in from I-19 yesterday. Only saw a couple of does with fawns. couesdiehard

Lark; Brother deer and elk meat are sent from heaven! Coues deer being some of the best eating I've ever had. If the darn things got up to 200 pounds or more, everyone would hunt them. But I have to say that for someone who obviously knows a thing or two about good eating you apparently don't know about the javelina's top survival tool! Oh sure they are small, have great noses and are well camouflaged, but these don't compare to their best. That God-awful smell keeps more hunters from killing javelinas than all the survival tools put together. I found that if you can hold your breath long enough to skin 'em on the spot, the meat is quite good. Now if you doubt my that the smell is part of their well-evolved survival gear, just look at what it did to you and your huntin' buddies. Tough ol' cowpoke like you and all your buddies barfin'? Takes a big man to admit that! Pretty smart game plan those javelinas have developed; another bunch of hunters that won't have the stomachs to hunt them anymore. Thank God coues haven't figured out this tactic yet! couesdiehard -
Pretty darn well put Lark! couesdiehard
