Dog Fighting Like Hunting?!?! What?!?!
couesdiehard replied to redline410's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Lark, I never thought I would type these words but....I agree with you completely on this one. Wow, that was difficult for me. But when you're right you're right. I'm not sure why ruffcountry thinks torturing any animal is the same as hunting but I disagree with him. Be careful who you bed with folks. We have a big enough battles with PETA and the like without giving them the gift of tying our cause to those who would torture and abuse any animal. I do believe that those who raise livestock or pets should when the time comes, kill them HUMANELY. I also believe it is the obligation of every hunter when the time comes to kill the game HUMANELY. Torturing and suffering should be avoided always. -
Were you guys up on the 300 road Saturday. I passed a maroon Chevy P/U with a bunch of dogs and guys around it. Wondered if that was you guys. Lee

$200 Non-Resident Elk Tags??! (Idiot Politicians)

Can you say USO? Obviously this CA politician has his hand deep in their pockets. They don't even try to disguise their motives well. Just my 2 cents Lee -
July 2007 Guess the Score Contest
couesdiehard replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
I'll guess 118 1/8. Lee -
cochranj, I talked to a friend of mine who is a gun nut and purchased a 25 WSSM when it first came out. He LOVES it! In his opinion it could be the perfect Coues rifle. He strictly reloads so he didn't know or care about availability of factory ammo. His Browning is a tack-driver with handloads and it's a 6 1/2 pound short rifle that anyone can carry and shoot. He also warned that 257 Weatherby uses (wastes) tons of powder if you reload and the muzzle-blast will make a flincher of many shooters. This is not a problem with the 25 WSSM. Just two more cents. couesdiehard replied to Diamondbackaz's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Casey, I voted for everyday til the hunt starts only because they didn't have one for "Everyday at least twice a day until he dies or until CWT.com ceases to exist, whichever comes first!" and I don't blame you one bit. Congrats on a great tag! Lee -
azyoung, What a dad! You kept yourself from sprinting to the top so your son felt good about himself. Whatever brother, you can't fake sweat. Must have been an awesome day for you both. Great pics. Lee

couesdiehard replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
azyoung, Is that 2 years in a row, that you didn't get drawn for deer? I know you guys are going to have a blast in 36A and on the turkey hunt. Actually I think G & F decided to pull you out of the deer draw to give everyone else a chance to shoot a big coues buck! Lee -

Hey wklman; English First bud! What the heck kind forin' language you talkin' - vob,.ifo, or .bup ? You sound like you been drinkin' too much! No seriously, I don't have a clue how to do that. I just couldn't resist. Congrats on your 34A Nov tag. We got the same draw. Maybe we'll cross paths soon. Maybe we can work on your English a little! Lee -
Doug, My buddy and I had the same tag last year and had a blast. We liked the country so much that we decided to put in for the Nov hunt this year in the same unit and got drawn. (Dec hunt would have been tough for us this year). Anyway, send me a PM some time and we can compare notes if you want. Lots of birdhunting in the unit, so you have the perfect excuse to make trips down there. Lee

Me and my buddy drew our first choice, 34A in Nov. for coues. The wife got skunked. "Acted like she was gut-shot!" Lee -
This is very short notice and the meeting is today from 1-5 p.m.! I love the ADA and generally like the tough job the G&F do but come on guys! They were disappointed by the turn out at the Hunter Retention and Recruitment forums so they schedule a meeting for the hunting public to attend with less than a day's notice and during business hours. I hope some hunters can attend and represent us. Lee Arizona Deer Association Newsletter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SPORTSMEN MEETING WITH ARIZONA GAME AND FISH!!!! THE SPORTSMEN / GAME & FISH MEETING WILL BE AT THE LA QUINTA INN ON THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF I-17 AND GREENWAY ROAD! FROM 1-5 PM TOMORROW, TUESDAY, JULY 17TH. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO COME. READ BELOW FOR THE REASON THIS MEETING HAS BEEN SCHEDULED: To All: Bear with me as I try to give you the events of last week and what prompted a meeting next Tuesday (7 / 17) between Sportsmen and the Arizona Game & Fish Department. Last Monday and Tuesday a handful of sportsmen attended the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies meetings in Flagstaff. Part of those meetings dealt with the issue of "Hunter Recruitment and Retention". Two half day (morning) plenary sessions were held, with some excellent speakers discussing the HR&R issues. Those of us who were there were then asked to participate in a Tuesday afternoon discussion about HR&R and sportsmen / department relations and how to improve them! Deputy Director Ferrell along with just about every Division Chief, Regional Supervisor, and many more Department staff participated. We also had Commissioners Hernbrode and Woodhouse in attendance. I believe seven sportsmen participated; which was certainly not enough to adequately represent sportsmen's issues. We discussed many issues, agreed on some, disagreed on others! Central to the discussions and offered up by the Department was "Why can't we get along better?", "Don't you believe we are working to insure hunting and what is best for hunters?", "What do we need to do to improve relations and cooperation?", and others. The discussions lasted for over three hours and as you might guess, not much was settled other than agreement that we needed to meet soon with a larger group of sportsmen and try to focus on getting to the root of some issues and hopefully finding some solutions on how to improve relations. At today's Commission meeting it was decided next Tuesday we will have a meeting to get the issues on the table and begin to discuss them! Commissioners Hernbrode and Woodhouse along with a large number of Department staff will be there. I realize this is extremely short notice, particularly when the meeting time is from 1 - 5 pm on a weekday. Unfortunately this is about the only day and time, in the next few weeks that would work for many of us. I have heard many of you gripe and grumble about "what has happened to the Commission and Department". Quite frankly, now is the time to bring some of that to the table (in a constructive manner) and get your thoughts out in the open and invite dialogue, out of the public eye, and try to put some of this to rest. Here is your or your organizations opportunity to help clear the air. I hope all of you, I'm pleading with you, to come or have someone come to represent you and give your input. The Sportsmen / Game & Fish relationship is the best thing that has ever happened for wildlife, we owe it to the resource to try and improve our cooperation and get back into a better working partnership. Feel free to spread the word, please do not discount this opportunity!

couesdiehard replied to DesertBull's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Looks like Barnett needed special permission per the Az Hunt Regs. A.R.S. 17-304 Prohibition by landowner upon hunting; posting; exception A. Landowners or lessees of private land who desire to prohibit hunting, fishing or trapping on their lands without their written permission shall post such lands closed to hunting, fishing or trapping using notices or signboards. B. State or federal lands including those under lease may not be posted except by consent of the commission. Please point a gun at me and my family while I'm on public land! Use racial slurs against me and my family while we have weapons and you better be prepared to use your weapon! -

couesdiehard replied to 111's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
It took me 4 bonus points to get drawn for my archery bull hunt. I have only been applying for archery bull since I got drawn in 2003. -
I got drawn for archery bull in unit 5A! No Antelope for me yet. My wife got skunked on Antelope and Elk. She's not going to like that. Heck we'll just have to get her another great draw for deer.

Whats In A Name
couesdiehard replied to GameHauler's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
azyoung, A combination of things have kept me away from the site. For one we have a new network for our computers at work so they watch everything we do now (Damned government workers!). Secondly I hunted the last 15 days of Dec without seeing anything bigger than small 3-points. Lastly, my darn computer is screwed up and I have been trying to make it right for month now. By the way Jeff, great picture of Riley and his latest deer on the other post. Did I post the photo of my wife and her muley? I don't remember. Anyway it is good to be back. Lee -
Whats In A Name
couesdiehard replied to GameHauler's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Well it's pretty self-explanatory but I am an AZ native and grew up hunting desert mulies. I was in my late 20's before I was introduced to Coues deer hunting done right by a buddy from work, azyoung, coyoung, and a whole camp of hard hunting crazies and I just new this was the best hunting in the world. I was trying different names that summed up how I felt about hunting these little grey ghosts and how I plot and plan about 9 months of the year to hunt them. Then I remembered a conversation with one of my uncles who I used to hunt mulies with and he said, You're a real Coues die-hard now, you don't even hunt mule-deer anymore. And as they say, the rest is history. Lee -
COOSEFAN, Did not think to measure ear spread but the outside spread of his antlers is only 21 4/8" so he is very narrow and tall which makes those huge ears look even bigger. Thanks to all for the congrats. Lee

This isn't about coues deer but I had mentioned on this site more than once that my wife drew a late east Kaibab mulie tag. Well we just returned last weekend from her successful hunt. On the 8th morning she shot the largest buck we had seen with one shot from my 30-06 at 340 yards. I am one proud husband. I hope to get a few minutes to write up the story this weekend. Here's a picture of the 160 class 4X4 in the meantime. Oops, Needed to re-size the photo. Hope this works better.

Joe, After trying to drag that 250 lb. mulie 300 yards I couldn't stop thinking about how much I love those little coues deer. When spent hour after hour skinning, quartering and butchering that mulie I thought how much I love those little coues deer. When I put the 110 lbs. of boned-out mulie venison in the freezer I thought dang I wish those little coues deer were this big! Lee

Joe, She has already pointed out that when her deer gets back from the taxidermist she wants placed on the wall right between my two "little coues deer"! I have the Dec 34A WT tag and even if I killed a record coues buck I could never convince her that mine is better. Doesn't matter though I am more proud of her than and her buck than any that I ever shot or ever will! Lee
