With summer right around the corner
couesdiehard replied to 25-06's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
25-06, That tank looks an awful lot like one I know in 36B. If it's that one though I have never seen that much water in it. Lee -
AZGFD Commission Meeting in Phoenix
couesdiehard replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Well you may have saved me yet another lesson in frustration Bowsniper. I probably should not waste my time or breath come summer 2009.. Then again I am nothing if not pig-headed. Meanwhile I am finding the good I can in the new hunt structures and will make the best of it. Every year it seems you need to study harder just to draw a decent hunt in AZ. My wife and I own lifetime licenses though, so I'm not going to give up. Lee -
AZGFD Commission Meeting in Phoenix
couesdiehard replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I am pretty discouraged by this hunt recommendations process too. What I realized much too late is that when the Commission approved the "Hunt Guidelines for 2008-2009 and 2009-2010" was your only real opportunity to have a chance to change the direction the Dept. was going in for the next two years. Those guidelines were approved in August of 2007. Once they were approved the recommendations are pretty much a done deal for the next two years. It has been a real education for me. I guarantee in summer of 2009, when they produce the next set of guidelines I will participate in the discussion heavily and I hope many members of this site will too. Lee -
Due to the schedules, I couldn't make any of the meetings regarding the hunt recommendations last week. Did any of the members attend and what was your take on the proceedings? From what I am seeing these recommendations are pretty much a done deal. Any feedback appreciated. Lee

Tax Rebate
couesdiehard replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I don't believe Tony was referring to tax refunds. I believe he was referring to the rebates that Uncle Sam is supposed to be issuing to most everyone who grossed over like $3500 last year. Even if you don't get a tax refund you can still qualify for this one-shot deal. Am I right Tony? Lee -
Me and my buddy George Taulman
couesdiehard replied to fatfootdoc's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I don't think George will take offense. heck, he probably will take it as a compliment. I saw some folks walking around downtown trying to get signatures to have the photos removed from the web. The group was called the AADSL (American Anti-Defamation of Skunks League) and fatfootdoc is Public Skunk Enemy #1. Watch out fatfootdoc, they comin' for ya'! Lee -

Blue Handprints on Signs
couesdiehard replied to Jimmer Negamanee's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I believe they are markers for smugglers. There used to be blue arrows on road signs and telephone poles and then around 05-06 I started seeing the blue handprints. Lee -
We don't hear from you for ages and then there you are bragging! Congrats Buddy! You guys will have a great hunt. Lee

For those who didn't get drawn
couesdiehard replied to youngbuck's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I felt like the hog when everyone I know got skunked! Lee -
Well tag soup for me, the wife, and my two buddies. We all put in separately for different hunts but the draw was not kind to any of us. Guess those WT's better watch out this year. We'll be hunting them with a vengeance! Lee

It has been saying that on the recording since yesterday early afternoon. I think it just because I called 8946 times in 2 hours and broke the darn system.

How much longer.... THE POLL!
couesdiehard replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Don't what you guys are getting but I just went through the whole process on the phone and got to listen to my Spring 2008 draw results for the thousandth time. Don't get me all worked up like that man! Lee -
On Feb. 12, I went through old threads on CWT and found threads that said elk and antelope results were posted around March 21 last year so I marked that day on my calendar. Well it's March 21, 2008 and still nothing. I feel like a darn junkie looking for a fix! Lee

Just checked draw results and bonus points online and by phone and both are still telling me my spring draws and bonus points. Lee

Fall 2008 AZ Hunt Recommendations?
couesdiehard replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Doug, I see on the meeting schedule that Commission is scheduled to meet April 18-19 on (hunt orders) but I can't seem to locate said "hunt orders" or "recommendations". Lee -
Some more interesting reading. I was interested in whether or not the G&F could give the TAGS applicants bonus points There is a process in place to issue new tags and bonus points but it is only when the G&F has made an error... R12-4-104 Application Procedures for Issuance of Hunt Permit-tags by Drawing and Purchase of Bonus Points R. If the Director determines that Department error caused an individual to submit an invalid application for a hunt permit-tag, prevented an individual from lawfully submitting an application, caused the rejection of an application for a hunt permit-tag, or caused the denial of a hunt permit-tag, the Director may authorize an additional hunt permit-tag if the issuance of an additional hunt permit-tag will have no significant impact on the wildlife population to be hunted and the application for the hunt permit-tag would have otherwise been successful based on its random number. The Director may also authorize the awarding of a bonus point to correct the error if a hunt permit-tag is not issued. If the Director determines that Department error caused the failure to apply an applicant’s bonus points to an application, the Director may authorize an additional hunt permit-tag to correct the error, if the issuance of an additional hunt permit-tag will have no significant impact on the wildlife population to be hunted. The Director may also authorize the awarding of a bonus point to correct the error if a hunt permit-tag is not issued. An individual who is denied a hunt permit-tag or a bonus point under this procedure may appeal to the Commission as provided under A.R.S. Title 41, Chapter 6, Article 10. Lee

Hunt N Coues - Here's what I found: Arizona Revised Statute 17-231. General powers and duties of the commission A. The commission shall: 1. Make rules and establish services it deems necessary to carry out the provisions and purposes of this title. 2. Establish broad policies and long-range programs for the management, preservation and harvest of wildlife. 3. Establish hunting, trapping and fishing rules and prescribe the manner and methods which may be used in taking wildlife. AND: Arizona Game & FIsh Commission Rules R12-4-104 Application Procedures for Issuance of Hunt Permit-tags by Drawing and Purchase of Bonus Points C. An applicant for a hunt permit-tag or a bonus point shall complete and submit a Hunt Permit-tag Application Form, available from any Department office, the Department’s Internet web site, or a license dealer. An applicant shall apply at the times, locations, and in the manner established by the hunt permit-tag application schedule that is published annually by the Department and available at any Department office, the Department’s Internet web site, or a license dealer. Under A.R.S. § 17- 231, the Commission shall set application deadlines for hunt permit-tag drawing applications. The Director has the authority to extend any draw deadline date if problems occur that prevent the public from submitting a hunt permit-tag application within the deadlines set by the Commission. Don't you just love lawyers? Lee

I was talking with a buddy today who asked whatever became of the incident last season where I believe a well-known guide and the holder of the governor's auction elk tag were cited for shooting a huge elk supposedly too close to occupied buildings. Was this ever resolved? Don't remember hearing the outcome. Lee

Wow, Is G&F really able to keep a lid on a story like this? I wanted the guide and hunter to have their day to to tell the story. Where's Lark? He must know somebody, who knows somebody, who is related to somebody, who is married to somebody, who knows the truth! C'mon somebody must have heard something by now. Lee -
AZG&F has the story on their website now. Sounds like everyone that had contact with the lion has to go through those shots! Lee

G&F opposes Constitutional right to hunt
couesdiehard replied to DesertBull's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
The section that says it does not invalidate any statute, rule or regulation in effect as of November 2008 is bunk! By it's very nature it strips the authority away from the G & F Commission which is given to them by statute. Either politicians are idiots or they think we are. Lee -

couesdiehard replied to DesertBull's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I have a huge problem with this bill. Read Section 36A. "The rights of citizens to hunt, fish and harvest game animals........shall not be impaired and is subject ONLY TO REASONABLE REGULATIONS AND RESTRICTIONS SPECIFICALLY PRESCRIBED BY THE LEGISLATURE." I don't want those idiots making the rules! You shouldn't even be able to use the words "reasonable" and "legislature" in the same sentence.
