It's almost an epidemic as to how many local hunting & fishing related businesses do not have a website, let alone announce their location. While browsing through some online marketing videos this YouTube video caught my eye. KEEP in mind, this is coming from the publisher of a PRINT magazine! With that said, we completely embrace the web and it's advertising outlets. Basically, every business listed in the Outdoorsman's Resource Guide, with the exception of Outfitters, need to announce their location online. The internet is not the be all end all for local businesses, but you need to at least have a static homepage. There is a HUGE trend in the lack of online presence from the local outdoor related business sector. A website is YOUR online business card, so if you are a: ATV Shop Auto Shop Bow Shop Game Processor Gun Store Gunsmith Hunting or Fishing Store Motel, Hotel, or Cabin Restaurant RV Service Taxidermist YOU NEED TO HAVE A WEBSITE AND YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE POTENTIAL CLIENTS CAN FIND YOUR BUSINESS! Let's just come out and say it! The TRUTH about Arizona Elk is they are some of the biggest, if not THE biggest elk in the world! Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Montana, Washington & other states have some big elk, but Arizona produces year after year. Check-out this Great Arizona Elk Hunting video courtesy of Joe Thatcher from MyHuntingTube.com. The first bull was found by Joe and his friends as they stopped to listen for bugles. They contacted the Arizona Game and Fish Department as it is illegal to pick-up dead heads until they have been investigated. It was determined that the bull was killed in a fight! On the 12th day of the hunt the hunter shoots a great bull and it sounds like the bigger of the two fighting bulls lived to breed another cow. Unreal!! View the full article

Bill, thanks for the information. In this case we were talking about free ranging elk in the United States. Arizona is pretty much proven to be a cut above the rest & it should be exciting for Arizona Residents (Non-Residents if they have a bunch of points). Again, thanks for the insight.

Last night I couldn't sleep! After tossing and turning for hours I jumped out of bed and searched some elk hunting videos. I found some interesting stock footage and then I found a Mule Deer video on YouTube. Well, needless to say this video didn't help me sleep any better! Now my mode has gone from worrying about elk, to dreaming about this! View the full article

I have heard "HOW SUCCESSFUL" the Utah Tags & Convention are from several people. On the other hand, I have read & seen an "outcry" from some resident Utah Hunters, as to how the Tags & Convention haven't changed anything with relationship to the Mule Deer populations. So, here is the factual information I found on the UTAH DNR website: In 2006, according to the Utah DNR, the estimated Mule Deer population in Utah was around 320,000. In 2010, it was around 290,000. Utah General Deer Hunters afield: 1970-196,633 1976-187,450 1980-222,542 1986-202,549 1990-231,432 1996-109,394 2000-103,336 2006-88,452 year expo tags began 2010-87,725 post expo tags Here is the source link: 2010 Utah Annual Big Game Report Now with that said, one could state that the decline in population may have been caused by drought, so I wanted more facts. This was the only semi-drought year before fawning time. The bottom line is I just want the facts when it comes to this whole process. I have read a lot of opinions, thoughts & feelings, but these facts show me Utah's Tags & Expo have not helped their deer population. If I am missing something, help me out or if anyone has any other FACTUAL data please share & cite your source.

I do not agree with HB2072, but I also do not 100% agree with these statements either... DESIRED POPULATION STRUCTURE. Permit numbers are influenced by desired population structure. The Arizona Game and Fish Commission currently manages for 20-30 bucks per 100 does. FYI-this was just changed because many Arizona Sportsmen hounded them to go back to pre-2006 guidelines, as many were seeing less deer. There is a range in which the decision does not influence the biological capability of a population to reproduce. Research has demonstrated that with as few as 5-7 bucks per 100 does, reproduction and recruitment is not diminished. *I would like to see where this research or study was held? What were the dynamics? Until, then I believe this is NOT valid for Arizona. Alternatively, in many studies, when buck-to-doe ratios exceed 40:100, recruitment begins to diminish for reasons that may involve competition for limited resources. [/i]Based upon public input and Commission guidance, the Department manages within a conservative range for buck-to-doe ratios, but could increase permits for deer or elk, without any negative consequences to recruitment, if there is a desire to increase the numbers of permits. *This maybe be true in 1960, but in the Arizona Subdivided Desert I would again like to see a study that supports this. Also, you will LOSE hunters if you drop those numbers that low! Guys DO NOT have to kill trophy animals, but the average Joe does want to see animals while on his hunt. The Commission has chosen a conservative range because sportsmen have requested a more conservative hunt structure, often focusing on public desires to pursue older age class animals. *This is 100% true! Keep in mind guys, from 2006-2011 the general guidelines were being managed at 10-20. This was just CHANGED, or else AZ would have been at the lowest end of the chart! Arizona’s guidelines for mule deer buck-to-doe ratios fall within the center of the ranges managed by other states. Selecting this conservative strategy reduced permit availability. Again, I do not agree with HB2072, but I also do not 100% agree with these statements either. Guys stay engaged! You do not have to be a part of a Non-Profit to VOICE your opinions. You are a Resident of this state & YOU financially support the AZ Game & Fish! Go to meetings, write emails & make phone calls. I commend the AZ Game & Fish Department for listening to the AZ Sportsmen. We should also thank the ADA & those individual sportsmen that worked hard to express their concerns for the Arizona Deer population trends. -
