my buddy has one and all the buckles keep breaking, he sent it back and they replaced them and they broke also. we went to summit hut and bought all new buckles and they work great
-
WOW, he is awesome

My bro has your same tag, we will be there and planning on a bear too. We have found a canyon that was holding a few bears. We have taken 6 bucks there including the one in my tiny avatar. We will be on the east side as well. On to your questions, the bucks are there you are just missing them, they will be bedded early and can sit all day only to get up and stretch and then bed back up again. 29 has been tough to hunt in the last 10 years as you will not see as many numbers as in other units. As the hunt gets closer we should know where each others camps are. Have fun, Rich

Well, after 4 scouting trips and a ton of rain I thought as many thought that the rutting action would be great, and the first few days were not bad. Then it seemed as a heat wave came upon us all bugling nearly stopped. We had scouted an old tree stand before the hunt that was on a small isolated water hole, unfortunately the trail cam showed only smaller satelite bulls coming in. After trying to chase silent bulls we decided to sit the stand and see if I could arrow my first bull and if the bugling picked up we would change our tactics again. Sooooo after 31 hours in the stand and 7 days into the hunt a dinky 3x came in with a small body but not too far behind him was a small 5x5 with a decent sized body, the smaller bull came in at 8.5 yards and started to drink as went to full draw, the 5x5 entered and turned broadside at 15 yards. I released and got a completer pass thru as he took off, I did not have my binos so I tried to look at the arrow thru the range finder to see blood but I soon heard him crash within 75 yards of the stand. WooHoo first bull down. I immediately called a friend of mine who had a cabin in the area and a quad who by the way also had a tag (different app, probably will never happen again) We an hour later and worked our way back to the bull as we were breaking the bull down a small black bear came within 15 feet of us and made us all fairly nervous as mom must be close. We kept a lookout for her but fortunately never saw her but the little guy would not scare off as we started to think he may be orphaned. We later let G&F know if they wanted to check it out as he would most likely be on the carcass for a day or so. So the next day "day 8" we went fishing on the Black River after dropping our meat off at Rusty's. It was awesome being out there with the stress of the hunt over but also knowing that maybe I should of held out for a bigger one. I am happy with my decision as now I have one under my belt and next time (6-9 years ) I can hold out for a big one. On the nineth day we packed up camp and started to roll out at 8:30am when I noticed a voice mail from my other buddy with a tag, he had shot a 6x6 that morning and needed help, we were estatic to hear this and to be able to repay the favor. So we cntinued to roll out and drove straight to his cabin, we changed and we all (my buddy, his wife and dog, and me and my hunting partner) went to the kill site just a few miles from the cabin We helped him break that bull down and then we were on our way home. All and all a great trip. Thanks to Carlos for coming with me without a tag and away from family to get up at 3am 7 days in a row and thanks to Hank and Deb for the hospitality with dinners at the cabin and being able to do laundry you guys are awesome. Now for pics, these go from scouting to then end we had over 300 pics these were my favorites....enjoy.

Thanks for all the replies, I am glad to share. We've had backstraps, tenderloins, and some awesome jalapeno and cheese summer sausage from Rusty's, just recieved all the meat Friday night.

Hey Rich, long time... Congrats on your first bull, way to go!! No tag for me this year, I was just along for the hunt. I don't think it's a bad call, I actually have one and called in a few cows and a calf one day. I was just frustrated by all the clowns that kept busting the herd with them. I couldn't believe my eye's when some of them would bust the herd and continue calling as the elk were running away. All it take is a couple dummies to ruin a good thing. I think the downside is now anybody with $20 and a Walmart closeby will have one. I think next year will be worse. Still got the crawler? I sold all my stuff at the end of last year. Needed $$ for a down on a house. I would like to build another one, but I'd rather go hunting a fishing these days. Sold the crawler over a year ago and built up a decent 4runner like you did except I three linked the front with airshocks, hate the air shocks so Mike is building me a new housing and I have a set of King's for it now.

Hey Pat, we called in 2 bulls opening morning on one!! It is not our first choice but we had never tried one and gave it a shot. But then again we had some rythm in our calling and were not marching in on them LOL. After the heat wave came in and they shut up in our area I hit a tree stand and nailed one at 15 yards, 1st bull.

Any guesses to what this is, has that redish color of a lion but I cannot make a tail out, man he is hauling some butt.
-
OK, cool. There is no skull on a stick, that was something on the lense. This is my first time using these things, man they are fun.

well I was working out this morning trying to be in tip top shape for my archery elk hunt in 3 weeks when something popped in my pulling shoulder!!!!!! I have an appointment tomorrow and will probably get an MRI to see if I tore a rotator cuff All symptoms point to this, I just hope it was not a tear and I can pull my bow in 3 weeks. Any other archers have rotary cuff injuries? although I probably don't want hear the bad stories...
-
Great news, I did not tear it, just a bad sprain. Ibuprofin and ice for a week and the docs say I will be alright especially in 3 weeks. Man that scared me, I will now be walking around in a padded suit for 3 weeks LOL, thanks for the comments...

wow, i did not know this was going on, I have a camera in 27 that I will check next week that has been there for 4 weeks, this will be interesting

count me in, archery bull

Was up a week and a half ago, and saw 3 bucks. PM me and I will let you in on some areas to scout. here is one that will be nice although he is a carp deer.
-
There is a certain state senator that is a retired Green Beret that has done well on that hunt (his kids too!) I will talk to him and see if he is willing to give up some info. He has the exact same tag as you.
-
I will be there the entire time if necesary, only seven weeks to go
-
I was also up scouting this weekend and saw one bull that had no velvet and bleach white horns when all the others had not started to rub yet so they are pretty much done growing IMO.
-
a buddy of mine bought these and they seem sweet, tiny nocks and inserts. His arrows weigh 349 and they are splined for his 70# Hoyt he lost about 20 to 30 grns by switching to this arrow

I finally went out the other day and did quite well with the Kaibabs, awesome eye relief. The glass was definitely better than my Monarchs but as far as price go those Nikon 12x56 is still a great deal if budget is a problem. After a half hour with the Kaibabs I got them dialed in and was happy with the outcome. I glassed up two does, one bedded and one feeding at somewhere around 1200 yards swapping from the two binos it was hands down to the Kaibabs. Come on fall!!!

I have the super pack but found it a bit difficult, I have the Terminator and I was able to learn it pretty quick I think it sounds better. For cow calls I got the Hyper Lip and IMAKADABULLCRAZY. The Hyper lip is my favorite so far. This is the first time I have heard of the muffle, I will have to check that out. I have to drive 2 hours every day so I use that time to practice. Kind of loud bugling in a closed cab doing 65mph.....I get some wierd looks I will not use the bugle unless I think it is necesary, I like to sneak in and use the cow calls. Hopefully my 2 hours a day practice pays off in Sept!

I bought them in March, got a great deal at $1015 shipped to me. The manufacture quality is super nice and they are crisp. I have been out a few times but no real sit down and glass for a few hour sessions and I have noticed that a wierd symptom that is hard to explain, it feels like my eyes are crossing ?? I am going out tomorrow to one of my glassing spots, I will get there early so that the heat waves are at a minimal and really see what is going on. If the same thing happens I will send them off to Vortex. Maybe they are out of balance ?? I will report what I find. It is wierd because with all the reviews I have not heard of this and I did not have that problem with my current binos which are the Nikon Monarch 12x56.

Congrats, this will be my first year out of the last three that I will not be going because I drew an archery bull tag here. I love speedgoat hunting in Wyoming and having all that meat (I ussually have at least two doe tags as well)
-
Congrats I drew the same tag, back in '99 when I drew it the last time I wanted to check out the same area but never made it. We found several places that had lots of Bulls that were easier to hunt and these were in fairly easy to access places and can only remember one time we ran into hunters.
