My son got his Tom on day 2 in 6a. We had calm conditions every morning till around 8:00am. Roads were a little muddy but not bad. We roosted birds the night before and came back the next morning and called in 2 toms with a hen call and a Dave Smith hen decoy. Was a pretty cool set.

Congrats on the tag! Elk can be found throughout the northern portion of the unit and certain pockets to the south. Scouting is a must and will cut down your time scrambling throughout the hunt. Find a good glassing point and let your glass do the walking. Some stud bulls in the unit but one must pay the price to reap the benefits.

We noticed he had his bow on the very back. As we were driving to our hunting spot we came across all his arrows with quiver foam laying in the middle of the road. I talked to the lady there yesterday. She said they had successfully called everyone who drew tags up to Nov hunts and she would be calling successful applicants today for Jan hunts.

2 of 3 have been filled. Both rams are 160”+. Last tag is doing it with a bow.

Unit 21...scouting is a must and will cut down your time scrambling during the hunt. There is nothing easy about the unit. Pick an area and plan on hunting it a full day. Plenty of camps spots off Dugas or cherry. As mentioned squaw peak is a good starting point but not for the weak of heart if you kill one. Most of the bulls will be broke up in there as they fight hard in that unit over a smaller population of cows than your typical pine tree unit. Best of luck and shoot straight.
