I have been trying to get my older brother into hunting and the last couple of years has been doing ok. He has yet to harvest a Whitetail buck until today. I have heard from others that 24b has been pretty tough this year in locating bucks. We decided we were going to take the first 3x3 or bigger that we came across. We had gone out scouting a few weeks ago with my brothers brother-in-law who has been working in 24b for the forest service (pretty much did all our scouting for us ). It went pretty well, we located some bucks pretty fast and decided that we were done. This morning we woke up early and arrived to our spot about 6:30 this morning. We had parked the truck down hill from a ridge and hiked up only a few hundred yards. I started to glass the south side of this slope and not seeing anything I switched over to the North slope. I instantly found 3 does about 1050 yards away. I showed my brother and his 8 year old son the deer that were feeding up the hill. After that I started to glass some more when my brother started saying "buck, buck, buck right in front of us"! Sure enough this little 4x4 walked out down the hill right in front of us! I was thinking to myself "you got to be kidding me"! So I said shoot, shoot, shoot!!!! Well end of story after a 130 yard shot we were done opening day at 7:30am. I reminded him that hunting is never this easy! But some get lucky, and we got lucky!!!

Thanks for all the great comments. On a side note Todd does a great job intalling muzzle brakes for around 130 bucks! -
Thanks for all the great comments! My nephew was so excited for this hunt! He has been waiting for a few years to go on a hunt with his dad! It was priceless to see him help out Feild dressing the buck as well! Didn't know if he was going to have a weak stomach or not. He ended up being excited to help out with the hole process.

Geat Buck! Looks like he has some good length on his tines!

My 2011 Southern Az Coues hunt! After getting up at 4:00am in camp I headed out and arrived into position around 6:00 am. After glassing for a few hours we found this buck at 10:30 am. I decided to harvest him at 517 yards and 28 clicks with my new rifle. Green scored right at 83 and 3/8"! Special thanks to John, Kyle and Todd!

Wow what a nice shot, that is one to remember for sure! Nice AR!!! I called David 2 weeks ago and he said my 25wssm should be here in mid November!! That is exactly why I'm going to a lager AR caliber for the knock down power! What scope are you using with your set up? Congratulations on a awesome shot!!!!

While breaking camp the other day this bug was walking along by the truck! Looked pretty creepy, kinda like a huge ant. He was freaking huge, about the size of a silver dollar. It also has teath that would due some damage if bitten by him. Also found this Scropion crawling around in our tent when cleaning it out, type anyone?

Thanks firstcoueswas80, it takes alot of practice at the range and especially in the field to make those long shots count.

Every year I buy a lion tag. I don't care if it's male or female, as long it is a legal cat to kill I am going to pull the trigger. CONGRATS on your lion kill! Your trophy is your own opinion.

Nice bucks!!!! Great job! I understand about all the hurt in the legs from hiking! Well done -
Thanks guys for all the great comments. This was a tuff hunt and tons of fun all at the same time. The rifle is a rem 700 300 RUM with a Hart Barrel topped with a zeiss scope. It took just over a year to get done, everything is custom on it. It weighs about 9.5 pounds with a 26" #5 contour barrel. Shooting the Berger 210 VLD at 3205 fps, and with 1/2 group at 300 yards I can max out at to 1475 yards with the MOA on the scope. Some other things on the rifle are: vais brake, David Tubbs light weight firing pin and spring for better lock time, glass and pilar bedded sheep hunters Hi-tech stock with a custom spray paint job by me , oversized lug, cheek piece hand made by a friend Todd South alond with some milling work on the bolt, 20moa NF base, and seekins rings.
