His gun is a factory 300 Rem ultra mag with a Boyds Thumhole Stock. A muzzle break has been installed as well. I load for Chad since the gun was mine before I sold it to him. The load consist of retumbo powder, 215M primers, and the Hunting 210 VDLs. I was using the Target VDls because the Hunting VDLs were not available at the time. The Target VDL's do a great job, I have shot a few animals with them including my elk. The shot was at 550 yards.

I think I would probably take him here in a couple weeks

I wouldn't think twice! Nice buck -
Thanks Lance. The biologist said they will mail out the info to Chad after the tooth and DNA sample was processed. That could take anywhere from a 4-12 months from what i heard from friends. So that being said he didn't say when we asked what he thought how old he was.

Thanks guys for all the great comments! This was truley the best hunt I have been on. I have always heard that bears smell bad and have tons of fat on them. Being August this guy was 99% pure muscle with hardly any fat on him at all, and I think my dog smelt worse than him. He really didn't smell at all, I remember that all my deer and elk that I have skinned were way worse. It was a challenge though to get him skinned, the hair was thick and we had to keep sharpening are knives every so often.

I agree with everyone here. I had this hunt a few years ago and it was tough because i aslo have never hunted it. I scouted 3 weekends before not even seeing a single whitetail, just all mule deer. That was fusterating! Then opining weekend was a ZOO as well. I ended up hiking off the main road for a bit and glassed 2 whitetail bucks, one about 70" and the other 90"+. Well I ended up seeing the 90"+ after I shot the 70" buck. ElkHunter said he was watching the hole thing come down, saying that 90" buck never stopped running. Good thing Elkhunter cant hear because he couldn't hear all my shoots at this 70" buck at 80 yards. My scope must have shifted after I fell. I owe this hunt to a member on here who helped me out!

WANTED - A Few 30 Caliber Berger Bullets
Couzer replied to rossislider's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
+1 I grouped mine at 300 yards. I read somewhere that the bergers do better when sighting in 300-400 yards as well. If your shooting a remington 700, here is a load with the 210's 92 grn's of retumbo Set bullet to internal mag (double check it though making sure its not hitting the lans) Federal 215M primers Rhino 1.8' goup at 400 yrds, not bad at all! -
