Here is a link to the backstrap I smoked, it turned out really good. I couldn't find a whole lot of info on it, so I ended up smoking it to 165 degrees I believe to make sure I killed the trichinosis if there was any. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/51338-bear-backstrap-recipe/

Thanks guys, it was tough to decide between a rug or full mount. Wife said if I did a a full mount she would want him standing up, it was a tough call. Just don't think a 6 foot bear was feasible in my home with the space. I could see my 2 year old boy old ripping off a claw and my 4 year old girl dressing him up if he was close to the ground.

i just realized I needed some mouth calls for my hunt tomorrow so I called Ammon a few minutes ago and he said he was taking his "call press" with him and would make me a few calls at camp tonight. Awesome!!!! It's almost time to knock some birds down!!!!!!

Calling can be very effective on the later hunts, they may not respond as they come in but if you got the gobbler that is running a flock he will come in if your calling his tune! Lots of folks will over look the later hunt, but it can be really good imo

Ha ha couesdeerhntr, I've been trying to keep on the down low because I love huntin over there and keep on the Ninja status! Well I am in Cali this week for family vacation but took all next week for the hunt off as well! I had a $2k car repair last week so I'm trying to juggle some resources around to make sure I go. (Wife is not thrilled about going) I'm planning on heading over Monday the 13th to pre scout. Only time will tell if I can go or not. I have not been over yet this year to see how it is, but I am pretty confident my spots will pan out hopefully

Man I'm feelin great, I ran yesterday just to see how far I could go. My knee started acting up a little so I headed home. Got in my car and clocked the distance at 4.3 miles. Wonderful news for me, I could barely run a mile 3 months ago
