.243 105 gr AMAX Reloading Help??
Couzer replied to Coues Archer's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If retumbo is all you have and your getting results you are satisfied with then why not? Are there better powders out there, yes. When I first started reloading I only used a few powders to load many different types of cartidges. Kept it simple and I recommend keeping it simple as you are just scratching the surface of a whole another world. Let us know how it shoots! -
.243 105 gr AMAX Reloading Help??
Couzer replied to Coues Archer's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The books generally recommend a 0.020 - 0.010 off the max case length so trimming is not needed as frequently after each firing of the cartridge. If you start out at 2.045 then you will need to trim your brass before your next reload. The brass will most likely stretch to 2.046+ when fired. If so you will need to trim it back to at least 2.045, but as the books recommend go at least 2.035. 0.010 is not much, it should not effect the powder capacity of what your doing. Lance can probably chime in here, much more knowledge than me by far! I enjoy reading and learning from his post -

If all your info is correct I would say you are good. Always start out with the lowest grn in powder when shooting and look for pressure signs as you go up. -

Ok yes you should be good to go, I just over looked the data. If you look again you can see the "C" next to the 49.0. C=Compression load But lance has absolutely great info -

I found it on their online reloading data but looking about a compaction load? -
.243 105 gr AMAX Reloading Help??
Couzer replied to Coues Archer's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Yes some loads will have a compaction load (a load where the bullet is seated into the powder leaving no space) be careful to make sure that it calls for this and that your scale is calibrated correct. If overloaded it might be a bad deal. Can you post a pic of your reloading manual with the info? Reloading Tip as well when loading, only keep one powder out on the bench. Never leave various types out, to easy to get mixed up -

How did it group? -
Last Wednesday I was out in unit 1 calling for bear. I had about hour and a half left before sunset so I decided to call the entire time. I was about 25 minutes into calling and my left leg was completely numb. So I paused my calling for a few seconds on started to shake my leg to get some blood flow back into it. Before I knew in this guy grab my boot. It was a rodeo for the next few seconds, I had kick him off with my other boot. I grabbed my pistol and shot at 5 yards between my legs. I had no idea what it was at first, I yelled/screamed all at the same time! Never saw him come in. I posted on FB but I know some of ya aren't on there. Just got the skull back all boiled out. The third pic is next to my bear skull, pretty darn similar

Dmoto beat me to the punch, definitely Utube if it has something. I would recommend picking up a gunsmith screwdriver set so the head on the screwheads don't get beat up.

Ha ha Couesprusuit that's pretty funny! I was that little girl last Wednesday! These things are ferocious little buggers! Pwrguy your right I was looking behind me, all around me making sure nothing jumped me from behind, looking for something bigger. A week or so ago I was calling a lot of foxes in which I wasn't to worried about. Last thing I would ever think of would be a badger so high up, pound for pound thing have to be the toughest things in Az.
-
Thanks for posting pwrguy! I going to have to do that same set up!

Used this fox pro call on the very left, sounds like a cotton tail. I was making it wine a little longer than a cottontail though. Bought them at AJI for $20 at Apache Junction in a three pack. On the calls it has "Dillion" written on all three, so I don't think Fox Pro actually makes it.

Yea that is the baculum from the badger, ha just seeing if someone would notice. Yea it was pretty Crazy and to see a badger up in the Aspens. He was 31-32" long 12" across. This one smelt to high heaven to, I got one last year as well and he didn't stink at all. I'm glad I had my pistol with me!
