Az Strip Bucks offers a scout package which I used last year. Some of the others offer a limited guide option for less $. I would call all the guides and see what they can offer you. AZGFD gets you started, some others might help narrow those general areas down to focus on, but guides will put you on specific bucks using specific waters and help you get them. Don't be afraid to talk to other hunters up there. A lot are monster 200+ or nothin hunters and may turn you onto some spots with sub 200 bucks that they're not interested in. Also consider how much pressure you're willing to put up with. Some areas pull more tag holders than others for good reason but there are other spots as well. And go prepared! Help can be a long way off depending on where you are. The benefit of a quality guide is obvious but DIY is doable. I spent the whole season up there solo and I didn't tag out but that was my fault. Either way you go, good luck.

They kids and I head out tomorrow to check cams and poke around. Called Coconino natl forest to see what the campfire status is since they've been getting lots of rain. She stated as of 8 am July 17th there will be NO campfire restrictions for Coconino, Tonto, or Kaibab natl forests. This is per the Flagstaff Ranger Station: (928) 526-0866. Call your own NF to be sure but this is what was just told. Just thought I'd pass this along. My boys love a good campfire.

Just hit for 2. -
Put 2 cams out in late May. Just checked them this last week and put 3 more out. I messed up the date stamp on 1 cause the knats where swarming us like crazy. The bull looking at the cam would be nice to run into in September.

Heading up next week to check 5 cams. Should have a bunch of pics hopefully.

Looks like parts of 6a got hit too.

If you want to see what a Tasco ($50) takes and a Bushnell ($140) I have some recent pics in this thread: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/41033-1st-check-of-the-cams/?fromsearch=1 The bushnell is angled too far out so night time pics are not great but daylight are good - definately the better cam but for only $50 the tasco will be all I use now...

The bushnell is up high and pointed a little too far out but does trigger on movement. The sd card had a read error on my playback camera so I didn't realize this til I got home on the computer so the next batch will be the same. I need to angle it more down. Unfortunately a bear messed with my tasco, knocking it offline, so I didn't get as many pics as I should have.

Last year on the strip only guys with Verizon could get a signal in a couple spots. I had AT&T with a booster and never once had a signal until within a few miles of St George.

Add the expense of security boxes. I do everything I can to protect mine but doesn't even surprise me if they've been stolen. I've had 2 $200 cams stolen. On recomendation of a buddy I now just use the $50 tasko with a homemade lock box that costs about $15 to make. This way I can have more cams out and it hurts less if stolen. Pic quality is fine for what I need. Battery life is very important IMO. I've used moultrie, primos, and tasco and all have done what they're supposed to.

Never owned one before and don't pretend to know much about em. I'm kinda in the market for the right deal. Would prefer a ranger but tough to find in my low price range, so quad is more likely. Anyway what are the key things a rookie buyer should be looking and asking when I go check em out, especially when looking at older models? Looking used only and 4x4. Any advice appreciated.

Putting the finishing touches on a homemade roof right now. Put a 4" lip on it for more cargo space and its sturdy enough to stand on which might give me just enough height to use as a quick glassing platform. Have the cabelas universal UTV bench seat ordered and should be done except for a windshield. Kids love it.

Thx for the responses. I got the right sized trailer for a good deal and got a really good deal on a 07 ranger 700 efi with just over 200 hours. Not too abused and came with a few extras.

What hour range is considered low? I'll be looking at a 500 with 360 hours (and its a carb not efi). Was told by another guy who works on em at a shop and he said to avoid the 500. Doesn't look like my budget can get me into a 700 efi...

Trying to be patient. Stupid me, I bought a utility trailer last year for my strip hunt thinking it would be big enough for a ranger but its not wide enough, and due to how the back end was built its even too narrow for some quads, so now I gotta deal with that too... A quad is great for just me hunting (less $) but a ranger is great for the family (more$).

Where are you located?

Thx for the info. I missed out on a low hour/mileage ranger by 1 day.
