they had some pretty good fights tonight. that one poor guy got poked in the eye and they stopped the fight for that. that one chic's face was starting to look like a swollen package of burger. that thompson guy had one ugly ear even before kimbo busted it open. thompson got rocked but I don't know if the ref should have stopped the fight when he did. good to see some free mma other than ufc/wec reruns.

well it looks like the lady kitty scats are 2 N Que in the WCWS this year. to bad for mowatt that candrea was off coaching the olympic team during her senior year. probably could have been a 3 peat if he had been around. as for ASU - looks like the selection committee did screw the pooch in seeding ucla #2 as the SUNDEVILS took it to them last night. only need to win one more game tomorrow and they are in the championship series starting on monday.

+1 for badlands - I have the 2200 and I really like it. the pockets on the edges do not hold much, just enough room for a knife or flashlight that is about it. I put my scope on one side of the wing and my tripod on the other side. that leaves the main compartment for all my other stuff. I know plenty of guys who have eberlestock packs as well and all they have to say is good stuff about them. Probably can not go wrong either way.

yea, I have learned it takes a lot of time to get everything set up. time that could be glassing for other deer. sometimes I am spotting for someone and would like to break everything out and get some pics but do not want to jeopardize losing sight of the deer while I am setting everything up. they are not called the grey ghosts for nothing you know. thanks. chris.

jason - what digi-scoping outfit do you use? those are a couple nice pictures. thanks for sharing - I do not recall ever seeing those before.

why did they open the enclosure? do I recall something about a fire and having to open it to let the deer escape that? I remember reading a pretty lengthy report several years ago on the enclosure and the deer numbers inside and outside and the relationship between precipitation and predation. if I remember correctly the summation was that the deer herd had remained stable inside the enclosure while outside the herd plummeted. this is when AZGFD was mainly pointing to precipitation as being the main cause of the number of deer (mainly mule deer) dropping over the last 15 years. not surprisingly, the report was nothing the AZGFD publicized because it's findings were that predation was the key thing to deer numbers and not rainfall. this coming several years after the embarassing '92 ban on trapping on public property.

unfortunately it does not look good for the lady kitty scats and a 3 peat - after dropping into the LOSERS bracket last night they will have to win 2 games on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday to make it to the Championship. what I want to know is how in the world UCLA got seeded 2nd in the WCWS and ASU 6th when ASU was the PAC10 Champions? kind of like how au got invited to the basketball tournament after finishing 7th in the PAC10 and not having a winning record in the conference. or like au getting one of the 16 #1 seeds in the mens baseball tournament even though they were not ranked in the top 25 nationally and finished 4th in the PAC10 without having a winning record in the conference.

last year ASU won both indoor and outdoor track and field national championships - only like the 2nd time that has ever occurred. I know that is kind of like the the kitty scats taking it all in swimming this year but you asked. like I said, that was last year - welcome to 2008. PCC Flagstaff should have taught you the most important measure to an athletic department is Sear's Cup standings. Right now, ASU is #13 in the country and the scats are #40. both should go up once softball and baseball are over but the scats probably won't crack the top 30 let alone the top 10 like ASU probably will. there you go.

Scout'm and I went out for a couple of hours after work a week ago last friday. despite the brutal, howling wind we did manage to see a few deer. didn't see any bucks or the other mtn lion we saw the last time we were out but I glassed up a shed at 280 yards. I hiked down and over to retrieve it and was pleasantly surprised to see it was a matched set, my first. not fresh brownies like I was hoping for but they will have to do. through his 15s Larry guessed the shed at 84" matched, with a 12" inside spread and he was right on the money. some will be happy to know that no camo was worn during the retrieval of these sheds.

yea we have been jipped. all the big bucks in 33 are on the national monument. better start hunting 32.

inside 250 is optimal but I have taken almost as many animals outside of 300 than I have inside 300. I know several guys who will not shoot out past 300 but that is mainly because they only shoot their guns once or twice a year.

Thanks Jim - it has been a while since I looked at this stuff but if I recall correctly the doe:fawn ratio jumped up in 2003 and it was followed by a jump in hunter success in 2004. this is supported by the 1.5 year old bucks being harvest in '02 - '04 as 11% increasing to 17% in '05 - '07.
