What to expect on unit 10, Sept 8th Antelope hunt
SunDevil replied to Viper's topic in Antelope Hunting
I think, generally speaking, for trophy antelope, the hunt is more comprised of 2+ days of scouting prior to the hunt than hunting for several days after opening day. this is not necessarily the case for archery antelope, archery elk, rifle deer, etc. the majority of rifle antelope are taken on the first day. if you find one you like it is best to keep tabs on him until opening morning. -
I have a 20 gauge side by side. sits in the safe. I think it is a savage.

so what would you recommend for a youth (12 year old)? want to keep it as light as possible. needs to probably fold up to < 18 inches to put in a day pack. does not to be very tall. does not need to be expensive. probably only put 10 powered binos on it.

how big do the waist sizes come in?
-
he did not ask about level of ease. he asked about access. probably easier than obtaining permission from the ranchers.

is the road into Happy Camp Canyon still open? If so, drive in there and hike to the top.

I do not have cameras but this has a big mess written all over it. What it someone puts a camera in a saddle on s game trail and 300 yards down in the bottom of a canyon is an unknown spring. What are they going to do? Stake it out to see who comes to check the card?

either the guy in this pic is pretty short or the main beams on this bull are really long. he is standing close to this bull. he has his hand on the antler and his elbow is bent. not like a lot of trophy pictures you see where the hunter is standing/sitting way behind the animal. congrats to that guy on getting lucky last year and drawing that tag and to filling his tag with such an awesome animal.

pray and network and pray and network. do not forget about the Fed Income Tax CREDIT that will help offset some of your expenses after it is all said and done. Also, do not forget to pray and network. we have adopted two. first was through an agency at birth. second was at 18 months and we were friends with the foster parents.

Was it on Natl Forest? Maybe a ranger was collecting abandoned property?

someone else indicated on this thread the following: "any bear except sows with cub" which is it? what if the sow is not with the cub? what if the cub is 150 yards away in another canyon? is the sow than technically with the cub?

Clear bubbles are great for adding extra weight for casting purposes to use with wet flies or spinners

whatever he gets he is going to need to spend some time and money determining which ammo shoots best in his gun. it is amazing how accurate/inaccurate rifles are with different ammo. At $30 a box it is a tough pill to swallow but worth every penny. cant beat a 270. lots of "noise" recently on the 6.5 CM but factory ammo options are limited. Personally a 300 win mag with a good recoil pad would be an excellent choice.

If the river was running 2K would the fishing have even been any good?
-
what is the water flow at the San Juan right now? I thought most of the Rocky Mtn streams were running very, very high due to increased snow pack. It is possible your fishing would have totally been a bust and that all of this might have actually saved you money (minus of course quality alone time with the spouse but the SJ is not actually a very scenic river to fish).

+1 on the trip insurance. it costs about 6%. someone close to me gave me some VERY VALUABLE insight several years ago. it was and is tough to swallow but I try to always remember it. "It is only money" Think about it

what NM would you like to see hunting access at? For starters, Saguaro NM would be primo.

Nice! I spent many days growing up on the banks of the Russian river. It was one of my families favorite places to fish.

You can also try Mike's mobile marine service in Tucson he might have a lead on one for you

probably should not take advice from anyone after midnight. Bahaha. That is funny. Bob, truth is that after Katrina, a survey was done asking which organizations provided the most assistance. Results were: 1) The Mormons 2) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints That is pretty impressive to me.
