I have the Slik 634 CF and outdoorsman pistol grip head.

If the kid did break the law, he should accept responsibility for his actions. The rules are simple to understand... If there isn't an open season and it's not a House Sparrow, Pigeon, Eurasion Dove or Starling (non-native species), you can't kill it.
-
Since the office took the sparrow back to the truck, he probably identified the species or took a picture an had it identified, wait and see what the report says. Have your son do his best to identify the species of sparrow and if it turns out to be anything other than a house sparrow, don't waste everyone's time fighting it, but see if you can have it reduced. That being said, see if you can have the court date penalty reduced

How did the zipper break? If it just stopped zipping then you can take some vise grips to the zipper body to re tighten it and also lube the zipper. If everything fell apart, have it replaced.
-
Request a copy of the report and see what species the officer identified the bird as. There are a lot of small birds and native sparrows that never have an open season. If the officer didn't identify the bird, this could be your argument. In addition, request a different court date.

I've used both Acoating and Phoenix Custom Rifles. Hands down, Phoenix Custom Rifles did a a much better job. -

Rent a cabin in Flagstaff and take your wife with you... She can enjoy the cooler weather and you would be much closer if something were to come up.

When I was a kid, we had our house broken into and they stole all of our guns along with a side of beef from our freezer. -
9lbs is heavy, but not unreasonable. Get an Eberlestock backpack with a scabbard and you won't notice the weight.

The only time I would consider doing the gutless method is when the animal has been hit in the guts... Yes you can get the tender loins, but you are either ripping and tearing them out or your risking cutting a gut open and ruining them. Also, you can save the heart and liver if you like. Learn both methods, but I suggest gutting for the first couple times.

Midway has some Nosler Brass available.

Slick Pro 634CF... It has the twist locks which I have never had a issues with, plus they are faster than the flips.

Great Job!!! What's the story on the rifle and what is the back story you received from the outfitters?

Try some Tenacious Tape, KUIU recommended it to me for a tear in my rain gear and it seems to be holding up well. You can get it at REI or similar stores.

If you spend the majority of your time glassing thick cover from over 800 yards away, the new 15s might be a better choice. Otherwise the new 12s are probably best choice. -
I was just joking... It doesn't matter to me how you say it.

The error is that Elliot Coues didn't know how to pronounce his own name.

I have the same unit... It does have angles measured in degrees, it doesn't give you the angle compensation.
