How do you lke those JLK's? Ive never seen anything get hit with one. Does the stiller action have a longer magazine box to fit those bullets? I have the same action and the magazine cutout is extended .130" to accept the Wyatt's extended box, or similar.

Thanks,

I have a question about how it reads the temp. Do you know if the thermometer is burried inside the case or does it measure the temp with an infrared censor or something similar. The reason I ask is because my GPS is supposed to tell me the temp as well; however, it only gives me the temp of my pocket, since thats were it is most of the time. Thanks,

Thats a bunch of crap....Game and Fish needs to keep consistent on what they say and do. I have lost a bull in the past and spent a couple of weekends after the hunting looking for it; however, first I called AZGFD and asked If i found it could I collect it and the answer was yes from two diffrent people. I also remember another story about someone else finding their bull after the season and AZGFD allowing him to tag and take it home. If it were me, I would go way above the two officers.

State land access closed in 36b
azgutpile replied to vegasjeep's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I don't know the area that well, but is the area that they closed right on the border with Mexico? Here is a link to a flyer regarding a closed area in the refuge. http://www.fws.gov/southwest/refuges/arizo...DFs/Closure.pdf -
called a g&f friend of mine and he says they changed the rules... dont have to be 10 to graduate from it. just have to be 10 before your allowed to hunt. so you can take it when your nine and when you turn ten start hunting. whether its in the middle of the hunt or not. just so long as he is 10 years old when he or she pulls the trigger deserthntr is correct, I have a friend who did this exact thing with his son.

What grain weight were those 3 deer shot with? 168 grain TTSX
-
The deer I shot were 320yds and 475 yds and buddy of mine shot his deer at 200 yards and we both had the same results. they are great bullets if you need guaranteed penetration, but for our small little coues I feel that energy of the bullet is spent on the ground behind the deer. Also, i don't think the petals broke off, these bullets seem pretty tough; for example, i weighed some of the bullets that I shot into a gravel bank and they were perfectly mushroomed, like the barnes pictures and weighed 167 grains. Another approach you could take is to load up some of the higher b.c. bullets like Jeffro said, but load them down to 30-06 velocitys.
-
I haven't tried the 130 grain TTSX out of mine; however, the 168 grain are the best shooting bullet that I've found, 3/4" at 100 yards. The only problem is that I don't like the way the Barnes expand, both of the deer that I shot had dime sized exit holes and ran forever. When mounting your scope, make sure you set your scope as far forward as possible. The front of the rifle seems to flip up making the the scope hit my eye. On a side note, the guys at Kimber were the ones that told me to try the 168 TTSX bullets in addition they told me to try the 168 grain Accubonds. Also, the tips on the Accubonds, Ballistic Tip and Swift Scirocco all deform in my magazine.

If the bull you saw this morning was running with the cows, I would be surprised if its the same bull. Check some of the water holes that are close by and see if you can pick up any blood there. Also, take note of any characteristics that your elks tracks have (e.g, stride length, drag marks, which side has the most blood, etc) it might help distinguish them apart from the herd later Also, since he crossed the road, are you in a diffrent unit now? If so, I would make sure that the local WM knows your tracking an elk and ask him what you should do if you require any follow up shots.

25-06 first centerfire rifle?
azgutpile replied to Simple Hunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If you reload, I would recommed buying a rifle that he will like shooting until he is 18, even if its a 300 RUM. If you dont reload, i would suggest buying a caliber that you can purchase the reduced recoil loads in. Here is a link to remington's website. http://www.remington.com/products/ammuniti...ged-recoil.aspx. In addition, I would do as Red Rabbit says and look for a youth or a shorter stock for the earlier years and switching to the full length stock as he grows older. -
This is just a guess, but it sounds like you might have the seating die set to deep, which can crush the case and cause it to bulge right below the shoulder. What kind of dies are you using?

It looks like one less Mojave to worry about!

where did you come up with the 100yds posting law? as far as i know it is every quarter mile, unless it has changed. it would be usefull to me to know if it has. its under A.R.S. 17-304. Prohibition by landowner upon hunting; posting; exception.

Maybe its the time of day the deer are coming in. I have a Stealth Cam that will not trigger when its warm out. In the summer the only pics i get are from late at night to early morning.

They probably figured that it was becoming to congested, and opening up the whole day would help thin the crowds. -
Yeah I get 8 also, It was amazing watching them jump from one little ledge to the next with ease. I'm up to 9 sheep...great pic! I'm going to need your help with the 9th one. I see the 4 obvious ones plus the 2 lambs by the bush, the one lamb laying behind the rock with just its head showing and the one at the very top of the picture.

I like the 7th pic down with all the sheep. The more I look at it the more sheep I find...I'm currently at 8.

Game&Fish - Operation Photo date check
azgutpile replied to C.O.U.E.S.'s topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I would have to say that I agree with DB on this one. Question for you guys, how do you prove to an officer that the dates on the pictures are not correct? When you down load the pictures to the computer, the file will have a the date it was down loaded; however, its still not the date the pictures were taken. The way I look at it, there is no benefit to talking to that officer. Respectfully decline and send him on his way and leave it up to him to get a warrant. -
It also refers to R12-4-304, which has it broken down to the individual species. 7. To take javelina: a. Centerfire rifles; b. Muzzleloading rifles; c. All other rifles using black powder or synthetic black powder; d. Centerfire handguns; e. Handguns using black powder or synthetic black powder; f. Shotguns shooting slugs; g. Bows with a standard pull of 40 or more pounds, using arrows with broadheads no less than 7/8 inch in width with metal cutting edges; h. Crossbows with a minimum draw weight of 125 pounds, using bolts with a minimum length of 16 inches and broadheads no less than 7/8 inch in width with metal cutting edges; i. .22 rimfire magnum rifles; and j. 5 mm rimfire magnum rifles.

I found that it isn't legal for Javelina. Check out the chart on page 96 of the "2009-2010 Hunting and Trapping Regulations " regulations.

I use my glassing tripod (either the adjustment knob or the pistol grip turned sideways) to support the front of my rifle and a pair of stoney point shooting sticks to support the back. This will put you above most of the small shrubs and grasses and is very steady. I've actually gotten the gun in position and then switched positions with a friend and the gun was right on target when he looked through the scope.

I saw the same truck on the 512 as well last night. Also, there was another white Dodge that had a sticker in the back window and a quad in the back.
