Custom build. What caliber would you go with?
azgutpile replied to briant_az's topic in Long Range Shooting
Nice build. Did you use badger rings? Let us know how it shoots. -
Plus black powder is fairly simple to make.

Fuel injection.

All you have to do is glue the metal piece onto a iPhone 5 case.

DIY Fiberglass Stock Bedding
azgutpile replied to massamino's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Use Devcon steel putty, it's a little easier to use than Marine Tex. I would guess between $350 and $450 for bedding, pad and paint. -
First hunt 31.7% Second hunt 37.4% 100% with 3 points on both hunts.
-
Let me get this right... Your upset that you had to wait two weeks to figure out what hunt you drew? You also appear upset that you've drawn a bull tag 1 out of every 3 years? Please explained in more detail why you think the system sucks.

I herd they transplanted all the elk from 4 to 1 because of all the new forage.

Going off 2012 odds, you had a 2.2% chance of drawing a 10 tag this year. 21 points would of given you an 80% chance and 22 points was probably 100%. Unfortunately the number of points required to receive a tag thru the bonus point pass keeps increasing. Also, make sure that you put in for hunts with at least 5 tags otherwise there isn't a bonus point pass.

Hunters trailhead is $25.00 annually and its well worth the money unless your a genius like Flatlander and know how to work your own spreadsheet.

3B late Muzzloader is at 12% draw odds with zero bonus points.

Golly... Thats very nice of you. How did you come up with the first week going to her and the second week as your own?

One way to catch a cat. Get your strongest fishing rod, real and strongest fishing line and tie on a large rubber lizzard with a huge hook (weedless of course) and cast it down the street. Let them take it a little and then set the hook and hold on. FYI, you might want to horse them in since the cops will be there shortly. Plus wear your best shirt since you might make the news.

I Phone Digi Scope Adapter
azgutpile replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
Nope. That one is too complicated. The outdoorsman one is similar to the kowa adapter, except it is machines local and should fit the spotter perfectly. Just call them and they will take care of you. -
Van horn makes a good muzzle brake, have one installed when he chambers it. He will have to center the barrel in the lathe when it's crowned and its best to have the brake aligned with the crown and bore. He can then put the finish on the brake and barrel at the same time. If you don't like it, take it off and install a thread protector. If you shoot prone a lot have him delet the holes on the bottom of the brake.

I Phone Digi Scope Adapter
azgutpile replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
The outdoorsman should work with the 5... I believe you glue it into position on any rigid smart phone case. I still have to kowa and when I upgrade, I will just break it free from the old face and glue it to the new one as well. -
If you buy the 12x50s you can then sell your 15s

Scouting service..is worth it. Anyone have experience?
azgutpile replied to Gut Pile's topic in Elk Hunting
If you are starting from scratch, I would first check out the areas that game and fish mention on their website. Start by looking at them on google earth along with the habimap (AZGFD). From there you can start looking for similar areas just on google earth. After this, I would call the W.M. for the area and see where he thinks you should go. Ask him what he thinks of certain areas vs where should I go.- 12 replies

whats the best unit to get a big desert ram in?
azgutpile replied to jeremiah lindsey's topic in Bighorn Sheep Hunting
If you go off 2012 numbers ( haven't seen 2013 yet) you would of had zero chance of drawing a tag for 37a, 24bS. 24bN would give you a .09% chance and 43 would give you a .1% chance of drawing a tag. Of the ones you mentioned I would go with 43. If you aren't looking for a giant try 15A & B East, they have the highest draw success rate of .4%. You should be able to find a ram of that size in any of the units. -

Matthews Phillips' Lion
azgutpile replied to AZ Ground Pounders's topic in AZ Ground Pounders Outfitters Blog
It comes down to what the client wants and since the client had already spent a lot of time chasing cats without luck he decided to shoot. If I was in his shoes I would have shot as well. Nice lion and good job. -
Like Vowell recommended, go with a 20 MOA rail. From what I understand, the vortex rings are made by seeking. Warne,Talley, Night Force, Seekins and badger ordinance make great rings.

The in general the tsx and ttsx are great shooting bullets. With a little work, you should probably be able to work up a load that shoots better than your current store bought rounds. If you want an even better bullet try the current 180 grain nosler accubonds; they shoot really well in the 300 WSM. Another bullet I'm going to try is the nosler 190 grain LongRange Accubonds, which should be out next month sometime.
